W-W-W-Wednesday!

What's on the docket, WW?

Re: my furlough thing from yesterday, we got an email yesterday afternoon that said it doesn't apply to salaried exempt people, for whom that day is business as usual.  What?  The first email and the small group meetings about the furlough involved everyone, but the email about exempt people being, well, exempt was only sent to salaried exempt.  I have no idea why, I don't know if there is a union issue with the people in the plant (manufacturing is United Steelworkers, office is not), if they're trying to prevent bad blood because some people are being furloughed and others aren't (which, if that's the case, is dumb, because everyone talks to everyone), or what.

The upshot is, I get paid as usual, but I have to actually show up and work.  Which isn't a bad outcome, except I was sort of warming up to the idea of having that day off, esp. since DH will be back at work (he's taking all of next week off--he has 15 days he needs to burn) and the kids will be back in school.  Ah, well.

I have to take DS to the pedi.  99% sure he has eczema, which is an unfortunate repeat of DD.  Figure I'll get the kids' flu shots while we're there.  I've been waiting for the nasal spray to come in, but if they still don't have it, I'm just going to bite the bullet and sign them both up for the needle.  Time's a-wasting, and I don't want them to get sick because I was dragging my feet waiting for the spray.

DS also has his class Thanksgiving party on Friday, and by some miracle it's at 12:00, which is perfect for me.  I'm sending him in his turkey shirt.

Re: W-W-W-Wednesday!

  • That turkey shirt is adorable! Yay for pay?! We lucked into getting nasal for the kids. The pedi has had issues getting the mist and has only had one clinic. We just happened to have a sick kid on the day a shipment came in.

New guy at work is giving me a headache. He's asking me to do things he doesn't understand and I don't either. My boss is supposed to be calling this morning about something I can't figure out. I'm at an indoor play place so it could be an interesting call.
  • I love that shirt.  Where did you get it?

I had a very random sex/affair dream about a our SoCal friend.  In the same dream I had a snotty teenage daughter (who was just like the kiddo, but a girl) and I won $10,000 from work.  There's a lot to unpack there, LOL.

I'm off today.  I'm going to hang out with my mom in a little bit.

I seriously will never be able to sleep past 7 or 8am again as long as DefConn is around.  That kid goes from asleep to ready to go (and eat) in 5 seconds.
  • Morning. Not much new here. Tonight I'm going over to my mom's house for dinner as my cousin is in town. I sort of don't want to go because it means driving to my mom's house and I just want to veg out at home.

DH is driving me crazy about Thanksgiving. I've been asking him what we are doing with his family and he hasn't bothered to figure it out. I need him to spend 15 minutes calling his dad but he's "busy". But he can spend endless hours worrying about how he wants to set up the damn TV room.

6, I took a call yesterday with my boss at soccer practice. Practice runs from 3-4 pm and I need to work still, so I bring my computer and do stuff while I wait. It's not ideal but it works. Such is the life of a WAHM.

@Heffalump - glad things are working out re: furlough. We've furloughed some of our contractors at the end of the year in an effort to save money, but the salaried/exempt people were never considered. You're probably right about union vs. non union having an impact. This has been a tough time for oil and gas - we're seeing some impact in our petrochemicals businesses, but we've also gotten better pricing on raw materials, so it's balanced out.

I saw my headache specialist on Monday and he thinks there's something going on / driving more migraines recently than I've been getting the past few years, so he's sending me for a full workup in the next few weeks. Multiple sensory tests, allergy testing, EEG, MRIs of my brain and spine. Some of the tests are new, others I've done, but not in the last 5+ years. Will be interesting to see what (if anything) comes out of it.

That is lucky.  Our pedi has gotten one small shipment and that's it, no idea if/when they'll get more.  So both kids are getting the needle this afternoon.

Mud Pie, of all places.  I was always sort of "meh, NMS" about them, due to all the ruffles and the monograms on everything.  But I was looking for something fun for DS to wear for his class party and was pleasantly surprised.  Turns out I like their boys' stuff. (I got him a school bus shirt, too, because he is obsessed with school buses, DD riding the school bus, etc.)  Who knew?

OMG, so much this.  DS wakes at 5:03 almost every morning (no idea why, but it's almost always 5:03) and immediately says "All done night time, no more dark!"  And he's off.  Today he "slept in" until 5:18 and it actually felt like a win.  Or half a win.

  • I'm having a good day so far.  I did my regular Wednesday work errands, only have a little bit of work to finish up in QuickBooks, dinner is in the crockpot and a load of laundry is in the dryer.

I ordered some new curtains yesterday.  With the sofa table we built, the current curtains would need to be shortened.  I saw a sale and thought I'd save myself some sewing time.  I hope I like them.
