Snappy casual?

So, DH and I were just invited to a wedding where the attire is listed as "snappy casual". In the words of my husband, "what the hell does that men?" I think he's trying to figure out if this a jeans and button down, jeans and jacket, jacket and slacks (but no tie), or what... I figure I'll just wear a summer dress since it's outside at brunch time.

    Sounds like someone trying to say "smart casual" but in a cutesy way.  This is only my guess though.

    I take it to mean "don't look like you just rolled out of bed and threw on some dirty pants, but no need to really dress up either". 

    If I got this invite, I'd think nice jeans and either a blazer or button down for a guy. Maybe a polo shirt for a guy who really doesn't like to dress up. And your summer dress for you sounds perfect.

    I think the only way you could be underdressed for this is if you wore old jeans and a tshirt.

    This is dumb and very annoying to me. I would call the bride up and ask her to be more specific.

    Ugh. I really dislike weddings where guests aren't able to dress themselves. I would call up the bride and ask if you/FI are concerned, otherwise, I would wear whatever you feel comfortable in as that is what matters.

    I'm thinking snap-up shirt with snap jeans - definitely not button fly...  And a snapping turtle tie...  Or there's always that snapper lawn mower - maybe it's an outdoor reception and they need guests to mow the lawn beforehand and they're asking a guest to come dressed for it?!?!

    Good grief! Add another dress code to the list of "trying to figure out what the heck they mean". Personally if I were a guy, I'd wear khakis and a button up shirt (I just don't like jeans at a wedding). Your dress sounds perfect - the only time the woman's clothing is easier to decipher than the mans!

    I'd be instructing my local menfolk to wear something like a sports coat and non-jeans pants with a button down and no tie. Never jeans.

    My response would be the same, "What the hell does this mean?".

    This is why putting a dress code on an invitation- beyond true black tie- is not recommended. Besides being rude to tell a guest how to dress, it's just confusing!

    I *think* I have heard the term, "He's a snappy dresser" before (though maybe I am making it up). To me though, that means someone who is polished and well dressed, often following fashion trends. But then to add casual in there??? Dark jeans, a dress shirt (or even designer tee) and a sport coat??

    I don't think it will really matter what you wear. Just wear something casual that is in good repair and clean.

    Snappy casual is not a dress guide. 
    These are:
    1.  Formal, also known in the USA as black tie. Guests wear tuxedos/gowns.
    2.  Semi-formal (Most weddings are in this category)  Suits/cocktail attire
    3.  Informal (NOT "casual") Usually church attire/sundresses

    It is very rude to print any attire guidelines on an invitation, except "black tie".

    Omg. I loved TMNT as a kid and like that it made its way back but uhhh no way I'd think of having it for my wedding
