DIY WEDDING VENUES

Hi I was wondering if people knew of any places in Oregon that are good for DIY weddings. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Re: DIY WEDDING VENUES

  • What size wedding are you planning (Real world guest list needs to be factored), what part of the state, how much do you want to DIY, etc.

Remember that DIY =/= cost savings and can actually push you well over what it would have otherwise cost you to hire out a vendor on a low modest budget or even an all-inclusive venue instead of nickel and diming every detail (tables, chairs, linens, glassware, plates, utensils, etc.).  For example, to DIY a cake will cost an arm and a leg by the time you figure the cost of everything from trials to completion, vs. a wedding cake from Sam's (yes, they have tiered wedding cakes, and their whipped icing on their cake is fantastic - the other stuff, not so much, but the whipped is fantastic...)... or flowers, you can give your favorite florist a $100 budget for your bouquet, bout for your FI, and have money left over as long as you're flexible with them...  Above all else DIY though - remember to factor in the value of YOUR time.  If you're stressing out over every DIY project there is that goes into a wedding, you're going to spend your wedding day working as a vendor instead of doing one of the most important things, being a Bride enjoying her moment with her nearest and dearest friends and family!!

  • Little late here, but when you say DIY, do you mean decor? Or the ability to bring in outside vendors? DIY means vastly different things to different people.

If you're in the Portland area, you should look into The Laurelhurst Club. We toured the venue, but it was too DIY for us (we did not want to have to rent a bunch of stuff, like decor, and chairs and tablecloths). It was really affordable, and you would have to DIY a bunch.

We got married at The Troutdale House, and we were able to choose any caterer, bartender, etc. that we wanted. They were very flexible about the bar (we supplied our own alcohol) and the setup, but they also had a ton of decorations they let you use. There were also a lot of options for how we set up the space, including at least four options for where to hold the ceremony.
