What's your theme?

Re: What's your theme?

  • When we sat down with our day-of coordinator and were asked about our theme (of which we didn't have), and my H said jokingly "let's just say it's nautical!", so I had to quickly show him the vast expanses of Pinterest that proved that 'nautical' was a thriving wedding theme.

  • When someone asked me what our 'theme' was my exact reply was
"Since wedding or we're getting married is too obvious .... I'll go with 'look at my shoes' then" lol
  • My theme was food.
Good food, good music, good times.
  • I sort of needed a theme to help me imagine things pulled together, but it's just "autumn night themed wedding."  Navy blue and gold with bits of autumn burgundy and orange thrown in.

But I'm not telling people (except y'all) it's themed or anything.

  • I hated that question. I just told people our theme was "we're getting married."
  • Seriously!

Tell them the theme is wedding.

Or Hedonism. Just for the faces they'll make.
I told a venue we were touring this when they asked. If I'd said "pink ponies" I think he'd be less annoyed, which was far less than I was.

I honestly don't understand going insane because the bridesmaids don't match the table cloths. Or even the what, bow ties not being the same puce as the shoes the BMs wear? I have a color palette I may work with but not theme, which is something I envision as nuptials. Oh, there's no upcharge-ability with that? Tragic.
  • I hated that question. I just told people our theme was "we're getting married."
    How was your wedding?

It was amazing! Thanks for asking. Perfect weather, everything went smoothly (except for some inconsiderate behavior from MIL but that's a separate conversation...) and everyone, including DH and me, had tons of fun!
  • Why does everyone keep asking what our theme is? I'm not planning a high school prom, I'm planning our wedding.

I think I'll respond casino night the next time I'm asked.

    THANK YOU.

I will decorate with whatever different styles I want to! I have some vintage elements, but by no means would I call it a "vintage" theme.  Don't put me in a box!!

I wasn't asked about my theme too much, but the one strange theme story I have is that one friend that kept bugging me about the theme finally decided for me that it was "winter wedding".  (We were married in the month of February.)  She then had the nerve to come up to me at our reception and ask where all the winter-y stuff was.  It was just odd.
I'm always blown away by the brides on Four Weddings who have a theme, and even more so by their competiters who take points away when the theme isn't really followed. Wtf??

Right! Like the food was good, but I don't personally like steak, fish, chicken, whatever, so I counted off for that.
  • My theme was... guests. I expressed simply by inviting them to attend and accommodating their needs with a table, chairs and food. This was the VIP table:
    Looks fun!
  • It was fun! My guests took photos with the muppets all day. lol

Right on! I saw an episode when a bride did not like BBQ but she lived in Texas. One of the brides had a BBQ catered wedding and she gave her a 3! I understand her reservations as I am a notoriously picky eater, but how do you live in Texas your entire life and not like BBQ?

  • I will never forget the girl who took points away for venison during cocktail hour (as well as other apps) because "I don't think you should eat those types of animals".

The show does it's best to keep it fair, but all those brides see is "free honeymoon" so they lose their objectivity. Instead of saying "wow this is beautifully plated and delicious", it's "I don't think you should eat that kind of animal." It's ridiculous.

Another big head-scratcher for me is when the bride with the $130,000 wedding "reaaallllyyyy wants to win" and "neeeedss this honeymoon!".  Hello have you ever heard of budgeting??

I looked up the process of retrieving your prize if you win. TLC only pays for your hotel, and I believe they give you a gift card for spending money. The winners still have to pay for the airfare to get to the location. As we know, they often pick exotic locations so I would think that the airfare is going to run the couple several hundred if not thousands of dollars! I would like to be able to pick my hotel, not rely on someone else to do that for me.

I suppose it's possible. I mean, I grew up in CT/MA and I don't like New England clam chowder.

I live in Cleveland and have never eaten a Polish Boy. Also, I dislike city chicken.

My hips would thank me if I could say the same for NYC's bagels and pizza :#

Do you like any clam chowders or just not New England?  I live in NH. I was once served Manhattan red chowder and I was so offended. I was trying to understand how people could eat it and weren't equally offended.

@eileenrob, it helps that I don't eat red meat or poultry. Pierogi, cabbage and noodles, Buckeyes, on the other hand . . .  :#

I didn't want to mention it, because it's blasphemous in New England, but I actually prefer Manhattan Clam Chowder.
