Tuesday!

Re: Tuesday!

  • I have a former friend who's baby daddy barely paid child support, and her other ex had to pay child support for his 4 kids {and then had a kid with her, but idk the whole story}

Fucking nightmare when it comes to child support!

My boss has 2 daughters from a previous marriage, but her ex never paid c.s either. She said multiple times that it was a good thing she had the money to do things for them.

Sounds ridiculous, but my parents talked about what they'd like to do if there was a separation. They could both afford it but technically my mum would've gotten custody, and my dad would've been required to pay c.s. My mum said she would have just stated that she'd rather have him and I spend time together and if I needed something, the buy it with me instead of passing along money.
  • Needed a new prescription for birth control so I went to a Planned Parenthood (first time using them) and it was the best lady doctor appointment I've had. Super respectful, answered all my questions about switching birth control, and didn't feel rushed or hurried. They weren't pushy about service she I didn't want or need. Anyway, big fan.

Other than that working, running group tonight. Oh and it's still raining in Ohio.
Over the past 24 hours I have had conversations with people who vehemently oppose abortion and in their all or nothing conquest oppose PP, people who are angry pro-lifers were excluded from the women's march, a nurse who has been involved in many abortions, early and late term, and a friend who moved to Florida, which blocked funding, and doesn't have insurance so a pap smear at her local PP would cost $238.00 and now you.

I donated this morning and signed up to be a clinic escort.

I'm signed up to be an escort, too and donated at my appointment. My insurance covers my entire cost, but no one is ever turned away there. I get some people have a hard time with abortion politics, but the work they're doing is so so much more than that.

I just felt so much respect from the providers there, and have honestly not felt that way in some GYN offices, especially when I lived in NC.

They recently opened the first PP in NOLA about a year ago (probably the first one in Louisiana).  It was WELL publicized they would not be performing abortions at that facility.  People still FLIPPED THEIR S**T about it!  There have been tons of protests.  Because they would inform women of that option, even if they didn't perform that procedure.  Bobby Jindal (governor at the time) tried to block them from opening.

Because, of course, any women (or girl) of child bearing years has no idea what abortion is.  And Louisiana is so well known for their abundant and affordable healthcare.  Heck, there are even years where we rank 49th...not 50th in that category!  Rock on!  (The sarcasm is heavy in this paragraph).

    What's a clinic escort?
It's someone who is volunteering with Planned Parenthood to walk people from their cars/parking lots/down the street and safely into the clinic when there are protesters.

Ohh!!  Tbh I'm not sure free clinics are protested much in Canada. I'm sure they are, but probably not as bad to need an escort.

That's lovely of you ladies to be able to sign up for stuff like that :)

I believe we have buffer zone laws in Canada - protesters must be a certain distance away from the clinic (usually across the street).  SIL had to go to an abortion clinic after she miscarried after the legally allowed abortion deadline.  The only hospitals in her city who do that procedure (not sure what it was) are the Catholic hostpials, and since she was further along, they wouldn't remove the miscarried baby as she was past the date for legal abortions.  She said there were a couple of quiet protesters across the street, but nothing else.

All of this exactly is why I signed up.  Stories of protesters at a health clinic make me stabby.

I used to have a friend that protested in front of abortion clinics.  In addition to the obvious, what also galled me about it is she'd been collecting disability for over 10 years.  Don't get me wrong, she did have medical problems.  But, if she can parade in front of an abortion clinic for 4 hours at a time, I can't help but feel she was probably capable of WORKING.

Oh, and she'd had an abortion in her youth.  But that was before she "found God".  She would also say she "regretted it" (almost in an obligatory manner) but that it was "just as well, because I don't know how I could have taken care of baby back then".

People are certainly free to change their minds about issues.  But it was not lost on me how "openly judgy" she was to women who were just like she was 25 years ago.

Now, let's not start judging on what someone thinks a disability should look like. My dad is 100% disabled due to PTSD from Vietnam and has no physical disability. My H is also out on short term disability right now due to mental issues, not physical. I know you said that she had medical problems and you know her better than I do, but it's a slippery slope to start saying that someone isn't disabled just because they have no problem getting around. Totally not relevant to the discussion about PP but it irked me a bit since I have disabled people in my life.

Planned Parenthood is amazing and its haters make me ragey.

It's been a rough couple of weeks at the glitter household. H's depression is getting better, but it was rough for a while. Hopefully he'll make a decision to leave his job and find something that makes him happier.

Terrible work partner is still here and I want him gone so badly. It's to the point where if he's still around when my contract is up in August, I'll think about leaving. And I love this place.

  • @drglitter  Glad to hear that your H's depression is starting to improve!
  • Love that bag @drglitter, I want one!

Sorry to hear you've had a rough time lately. Hopefully he can make the decision to change jobs. H is doing that now and it's frustrating, but he's been happier just with the thought of something different.

Totally agree (normally)!  But, at the time, I knew her pretty well.  Physically demanding or high stress jobs she wouldn't have been able to safely do, but there are a lot of jobs that don't fall in that category.  I didn't know her when she first went on disability, so I can't speak to that.  However, she herself talked about wanting to get a lower stress, office job...but only if it paid at least $45K/year.  Because, otherwise, it wasn't "worth" going off disability.

I, of all people, totally get that disabilities are not necessarily discernible to the naked eye.  I have a major disability myself that no one could tell by looking at me.  I can still work f/t for now, but there will probably come a day when I can't.

Slightly different subject.  I also had a previous coworker, in her late 20s (at the time), with a handicapped license plate.  She would often get really rude comments from strangers when she used a handicap spot :(.  Because you couldn't tell by looking at her she'd had three open heart surgeries before she was out of her teens.  I suspect she'll also be on disability before she is of retirement age also.
