Bride walking down the aisle alone?

I am 34.. (will be 35 when we get married).  This is my 2nd marriage & my future husband's 1st.  My mom & dad walked me down the aisle the 1st time when i was a good bit younger.  Is it weird for me to walk down the aisle by myself this time?
Any thoughts are appreciated : )

Thanks!

    Not at all!

My dad passed away when I was a teenager, and I outright refuse to have anyone else escort me.

FI is Jewish (I'm not), so his parents will both escort him down the aisle in his tradition, followed by our bridal party, then I'll go down alone. My mom will either be seated beforehand or escorted by family before my FI & his parents, or will be seated before the processional.
  • This would be fine!  You might consider walking down the aisle with your FI as an escort.  This is often done, especially with brides who's father's aren't around to escort them.  You might just need a steadying arm if you get nervous and stumble in high heels!

  • Walking down the aisle alone is totally fine; in fact, this is exactly what I did. I was uncomfortable with the tradition of fathers walking their daughters down the aisle/giving them away, so I decided not to do it at my own wedding.

  • Thanks Ladies!  Maybe it would be a good idea for me to walk half way down the aisle, and then have my FI meet me in the middle... That could be cute :)   Has anyone ever seen this done at a wedding?  I never have.

Seems unnecessary and possibly a little awkward and time consuming. If you want to walk alone and have all eyes on you for a time, do that; if you want to enter with your FI to enter into marriage, do that.
This. I would either walk with him the whole way or not at all. Either is totally fine.

  • I'm another who walked in alone. Do what you like here.
  • I've seen the couple meet half way and it wasn't awkward. Groom walked from front to about halfway down the aisle. Bride then entered and met the groom in the middle.

Do what makes you feel comfortable.

This is one aspect of the wedding that is entirely your choice.

Fine to walk alone. Or have your Mom/ brother/ grandparent/ uncle/ whoever escort you. Or have FI escort you.

When my friend got married, her FI waited for her at the start of the aisle where the guests were seated, then she came out by herself from around the corner, and then they walked up the aisle together.
  • I'm walking alone. My dad is deceased and I feel like it suits our very intimate wedding (about 30 guests). The bridesmaids and groomsmen will also walk alone. The only people to be escorted will be the moms. My fiancee's mom and dad will walk in together and my brother will escort my mom.

This is also my second wedding (I was in my twenties the first time around and did everything very traditionally--my dad was alive then). My fiancee's first. Having been married before and having a fiancee who isn't particular about tradition, it is very freeing to just do what we want to.

The meet half way thing is sweet. And, it may be nice to have someone by your side. Do what feels right for you!
  • One wedding H and I attended shortly before our own, the groom went down the aisle to collect his bride and escort her back to the altar, which was very sweet.

I'm going to do the same thing. This is both mine & FI's second marriage.

  • Hey--totally your call. I think you should be comfortable with whatever choice you make, it's your decision obviously. But I wouldn't be worried or nervous about it at all, especially since it's your second marriage.
  • I don't think that would be weird at all.  Some people don't have anyone to walk them and walk alone (position I am in) and some people have to have non-traditional people walk them down (a friend of mine had her grandma).  I don't think most people will notice that much as they will be fixated on you in your dress.  If anyone asks about it, who cares it's your day! Rock it!
  • Thank you so much for all of the advice on this!  I still haven't fully decided what i want to do yet (running out of time... a little over 3 months away! lol)  But i'm leaning more towards walking down the aisle alone... I'm glad to hear that other brides have done it that way. Especially in the case of a 2nd wedding... i dont want my parents to feel excluded, but we will still do the father/daughter and mother/daughter dance songs at the reception :)
  • I was at a wedding last weekend where the bridesmaid met the groomsmen halfway down the aisle and they walked together.

Might be an idea to have everyone meet halfway if you want someone to walk with you.

Otherwise I think alone is fine.

  • I think it sounds like a good idea. With this being your second marriage it will show a contrast to your first and make it seem slightly more adult. ( i'm not saying anyone's going to compare them or that your first marriage wasn't adult just that there's obviously a difference).
