What does 'queer' mean to the queers?

Dear Prudence,
Is there a newer definition of the term “queer” than I am familiar with? Growing up, “queer” seemed to be a pejorative that was reclaimed by the LGBT community. As a cis-gender man I’d worry about coming across odd, maybe offensive, if I called a gay or lesbian friend “queer,” but it was a term they claimed for themselves. (Which I totally understand.) It seems as if “queer” now seems to refer to either bisexual or gender-neutral people, although from context it’s not quite clear to me which one it is (or both?) Not that labels matter, but it does help in understanding how people classify themselves.

  • LGBTQQIAAP2S+ ... I'm sorry to say that I'm scrambling for words for some of the letters. I'm good for LGBTQQI. Can someone enlighten me on the rest of the words?

One of the As is Asexual, and I think the other is Ally (or it might be Agender or Aromantic). P is Pansexual. I think 2S is Two-Spirit (a Native American term).
  • The P might also mean Polyamorous, but I think more likely it's for Pansexual.
  • I've always wished MOGII caught on, but I am also cis het.

I had never heard of that one till you posted it.
