Pre-wedding Parties

Bachelorette Party Attire

Wow! It's been so long since I posted on here. Happily married for 4 years in September!

Wanted to post since I can always count on you all for honest advice.

A friend is having a Bachelorette party this week and has requested that all of her guests wear sequins for her Sex & the City themed bachelorette. I'm not huge in to sequins but I do have one sequined dress - but it's white. I'd prefer not to buy something new that I'm not likely to wear again, but I know it's probably in poor taste to show up in a white sequin party dress.

I also have a pair of gold glittery pumps - not exactly sequins, but may pass the test.

Tl;dr - Bride wants everyone to wear sequins. Options are: wear white, wear glittery non-sequin shoes and call it a day, go buy something new I'll never wear again.

Re: Bachelorette Party Attire

  • I would wear what you're comfortable in, and already have.

Honestly, all that will matter to me at my bachelorrete is that my friends are having fun. They're already spending money at the event, I would never ask they to spend MORE money just so we all match.

If you really want to please the bride, maybe ask around to see if you can borrow something from your friends? Wear what you already have and try to find some sequinned accessories? As a last resort, bring the white dress along just in case and if the bride freaks out that you don't have full sequins on, pull it out and say wellll, I can wear this but it's white.

Why?  I will never understand this "dress request" mindset.

I agree with the PP's.  Wear what you own that may qualify as sequined, even if it's merely shoes and jewelry.  I would not spend one cent trying to accommodate this request that has absolutely zero to do with the success of the party, the testament to your friendship, or her impending nuptials.

    Welcome back!
  • You cross-posted this on another board, so I'm cross-posting my answer.

Welcome back!   OK, the BRIDE is requesting specific attire for her own bachelorette party?  Wow!  The bride should not be planning her own party.  This is way out of line.  If you really want to go to this, go to a party store and buy a sequinned headband.  Pin a fake flower on your dress.  (Remember those?)  I hope it is a fun party, but this is really bad etiquette on the bride's part!

  • I would wear a LBD with the glittery shoes, and then try to find a cheap sparkly pashmina wrap or some kind of glittery jewelry.

Also, I'm not sure I can remember the SATC ladies wearing sequins. Certainly not all of them at the same time. Maybe ironically on the Atlantic City episode?
  • Be Charlotte!   Or hit up Party City.
  • Do you have any blingy chunky jewellery? I'd wear an lbd with a big, blingy statement necklace and glittery heels.
    1. I think this sounds great.

    2. SATC themed parties are a thing in 2017?

Such an odd request. I think maybe the S&TC women may have worn "sequins" (I think it was actually glittery?) in advertisement photos for the movie versus actual scenes (from what I can remember- should watch again ;) ).

I think it'd be pretty tricky to find a sequin or even full on glitter outfit just anywhere. So I'd wear what you have. No to buying something you'll never wear again for a bachelorette party.

I think you'll get side eyed for wearing white. I know there are no real rules on this, but a common trend I've seen is the Bride wearing a white dress and the guests wearing black dresses for B parties.

I agree with wearing a LBD, your glittery heels and some bold glitzy jewelry.

The bride shouldn't be requesting a dress code for her own bp. But...

I have run into enough bps, mostly at the casinos, to know the bride 2 be wearing white is a thing, at least in these parts. I would not wear an all white outfit to a bp. Wear whatever you normally would wear to a cocktail type party.

  • I definitely would not wear the white dress, definitely poor taste. I would wear the other glittery items you mentioned. You may also want to run ideas by the other bridesmaids.
