Wedding Woes

Wednesday

Ugh.  I threw away broccoli last night and didn't take the trash out.  So this morning, I woke up to our kitchen smelling like something died in it.  It was nostril burning.  Also, our sink was full of dishes.  So I cleaned the whole kitchen because I couldn't stand it.

I started watching 'The Confession Tapes' on Netflix about people who falsely confess to crimes (usually because they're pressured).  I can't wait for the new documentary 'Strong Island' to come out on Saturday.

My friend and I were talking about our love for true crime podcasts and documentaries on Friday night.  I was telling her about a new one I had listened to and said something like, "It's really sad."  Her H, who doesn't understand our love for true crime (same with Mr. Conn) was all, "THEY'RE ALL SAD!"  Touché, LOL

Still waiting for 'the call'.  And SSDD.

Re: Wednesday

  • Chiquita puked in the car on the way to drop off at the daycare.   I left her in the car and brought Chiquito in because well, I'm not bringing a puking kid into a daycare.   Got a bit of a hand slap from the director but I think she was covering her ass by telling me.   No one wants a vomiting kid in their business when the kid was going to be unattended for all of 5 minutes.

Other than that, SSDD.  Hoping the puke bug is contained.
  • My desk is nice and tidy at work. Was great to come in to.

Did a bit of meal planning. We're trying to get into the habit, but tbh it's hard because it's annoying. Lol
But I did it. I'm gonna write it out better, so I can also take a look at what we need to buy. I tried to do list based on what we had so I didn't need toooo much added to grocery list.

    SSDD at work.

Tonight I'm going for dinner with a friend. Belated bday for me and early bday for her - I'm gone on her bday and she moves around that time.

I've asked M to figure out editing program for videos .... so I should hopefully be able to edit the videos I have so I can record another. It's annoying when you have things to do and you're at a standstill. It's like basement and garage cleaning lol
  • @mrsconn23 dammit! Make them call your H!!

@banana468 damn. Puking isn't fun :( Hopefully Chiquita feels better
  • @mrsconn23 dammit! Make them call your H!!

It's 5-7 business days on the background check because it's the government.  Today is the 5th business day.  He's already told his current job that he's leaving (calculated risk, but if he doesn't leave they're not going to kick him out the door...and he's never had a background check issue before, but I'm still like, "I hope you didn't jinx anything!"), so he's just waiting for them to let him know he's all good and then he's bouncing.   It's just hard because the excitement has worn off and now we're just impatient, and nervous.

Apparently, people have been spilling all sorts of dirt about fuckery at his current place and his director is also playing stupid games with him (trying to tell him his friend who got him the new job 'begged to come back' to his current place.  Yeah, uh...no?  DH has been in contact with him consistently since his friend left).

I didn't know it took so long. In parts of Canada, it's just a couple days.

That's ridiculous about his job! Sounds so much like high school :\
  • I cracking up at myself.  I spent a large portion of my life in OK and was raised around western style riding/shows and horse racing.  It occurred to me accidentally about a week ago that western show clothing is TOTALLY perfect for K's drag king career.  AND IT IS.  I have so many inspiration photos, I've joined like 4 new FB groups for designing/sewing tips and techniques and I just cannot stop laughing.

I am so unmotivated at work.  The case load is so large here that I don't really have a feeling of accomplishment, just grinding.  But I like the job itself, co-workers, and benefits, so I'm trying to readjust my attitude.  It's hard.
  • I just have to get through school today and then I can kind of relax for a few days. I need to make a meal plan, because we can't keep eating pizza for dinner. I'd put SO in charge of dinner, but then we'd have scrambled eggs for dinner every night. Or fish sticks and fries. He doesn't cook. Lol.

    Ofherwise, nothing new here.

  • Job hunting. Waiting for follow-up. Ugh.
  • I'm back and feeling better.  Yesterday, was a good day but I was beat at the end.  I went back to work, and as a salesperson that requires a lot of talking.  Then, we had our local democratic club meeting last night, so more talking.  I was pretty sore but able to fall asleep without a Norco.  I did cancel my mammogram this morning though.  No need for all that torture, especially since I had that biopsy not that long ago.

Today I have two appointments in the office and then hopefully washing the pup tonight.  She's gross.  It's time.

I also need to figure out what to do for H's birthday next weekend.  All of his friends are married with babies and toddlers so they don't get out much and we, as the childless couple, seem to be excluded from many of the things we used to be invited to.  We couldn't make it to two birthday parties and communicated as such (one was the day after H's grandfather died, the other he was out of town and I had to work) and all of a sudden we get zero invites.  Last year, I was recovering from my reduction surgery so I want to do something fun, without it being obvious he has almost no friends left.  Poor guy.

His new boss just e-mailed and said they are just waiting on the pending background check, but everything else is on the up and up.  Back to pins and needles we go.  Blerg.

Not so much podcasts, but I'm an IDHD fanatic.

I think I told this story when it happened, so I apologize if I am repeating myself.  But I had a hilarious incident with one of my neighbors, who apparently is also an IDHD fanatic, when my car was in the shop for over a month.

This neighbor and I had never exchanged any words with each other.  Just waving hi, if we happened to be outside at the same time.  One day, I came home from grocery shopping with my rental car and we waved hi.  But then she started motioning with her hand for me to go over to her.  This was the gist of our conversation:

Her:  "Hey, it's good to see you!  Have you been okay? I feel like I haven't seen you or your car in a long time."

Me:  "Thanks for asking.  I'm fine and have been around.  But, yeah, my car has been in the shop for a LONG time."

Her:  "I'm so glad you're okay.  I was really getting worried about you because I hadn't seen you.  I even asked my husband if he had seen you.  He said he'd seen your husband a few times last week.  But I told him that I wasn't worried about your husband, I was worried about you.  I mean, I watch these shows on IDHD where people disappear and turn out to be victims of crime."

Me (a bit surprised):  "I love those shows!  I watch them all the time also.  I know what you mean.  That was really sweet of you to be concerned.  (Laughing) But no, I promise I'm fine!"

I told my H later about the conversation and that I'm assuming our neighbor had apparently been a bit suspicious that he had murdered me and buried my body in the backyard, lol.  He jokingly said, "See?!?  That's what your murder porn shows do to people."

Not much from yesterday, though my H and I started on our restaurant week journey last night.  We tried Fogo de Chao.  It's a small chain of Brazilian steakhouses.  The one in NOLA is fairly new and we'd been wanting to try it.  Their restaurant week "deal" was the per person price was $12/person less than it usually is ($39 instead of $51) and they also threw in desserts that are normally an extra charge.

We liked it, we didn't love it.  To be fair, on our recent trip to Chicago we'd gone to an amazing Brazilian steakhouse for brunch.  So they did have a lot to live up to.  Even with the discounted price, I don't think it was quite worth the money we paid.  I'd actually love to go back sometime and just get the salad bar ($15/person)...which is actually a lot more than salads and a much better value.  The salad bar also included a charcuterie area and smoked salmon with a yummy, creamy dill sauce.

  • @mrsconn23, I previously had a job working for  a defense contractor on a Navy contract.  I ran into the same thing.  My background check took 1-2 weeks before they brought me officially on-board and would even allow me to be at my worksite.

But that was nothing, lol.  I also had to get a Secret Clearance.  That took 7 months, though thankfully I could be working the whole time.

It was a really long and intense application.  I had to supply a lot of information for every address and job I'd had for the previous 10 years.  I also had to list every time I'd left the country in that time.  Really challenging because that timeframe covered when I was in college and had lived in three different places!  A college that was only a 60ish minute drive to the Mexican border.

I had a funny conversation with my boss about that.  I knew some dates, like if I stayed for a few days.  But, every occasion my friends and I said, "Hey, let's go down to TJ tonight."  Or decided on a day trip of shopping and margaritas.  Hahahaha.  As if I'd have any idea.  I mean, I figured it probably wasn't any big deal, but wanted his guidance on if there was something I should address about that.

He asked me if I'd ever been to China, North Korea, or Cuba.  I told him I had not.  He laughed and said don't worry about it then, just do the best I could with whatever dates I remembered.

  • @mrsconn23, that clearance wait time is so annoying.  Glad your H is getting out of there!
Poor Chiquita, @banana468.  Hope she gets better soon
@VarunaTT Sounds awesome.  Can we see the end results when you're done?
@kimmiinthemitten, are you looking for a group thing to do with everyone or maybe a romantic weekend away?  I get you.  All my friends either are going to concerts I have NO desire to go to on weekends or have children and stay home.
@short+sassy, I always felt like those steakhouses were never worth it to me.  The salad bars (can) be good but I'm not much for red meat so it's like, I'm paying $50 for chicken and salad?

Last night, H and I went to go see "9/11".  Incredibly sad, but i was crying during previews of other sad movies too!  Whoopi did a good job (can she please age?) but Charlie Sheen man......how is he still getting jobs? Our food took 1 hour to come to us, so we got three free passes to future movies.  LOVE it when that happens (not the first time for us either).

  • Don't watch the Confession Tapes unless you're ready to feel hopeless and like the world is bullshit.
  • sorry to hear that, @cmgragain.   I bet you look just as beautiful with or without it!
@mrsconn23, I want to watch that series.  After knowing someone who went through this very thing, it's amazing how our justice system can fail us.

I'm so sorry @CMGragain.  I'm sure seeing the physical side-effect of treatment is a mindfuck.

@CharmedPam, it's binge-able...but a depressing AF binge.  Did the person you know end up in prison or were they able to get out of it?
  • I'm stressing out.  2 weeks until our move and there is so much left to do.  I did take Friday and Monday off coming up so hope to accomplish big things.  I'm a frustrated perfectionist so I have an idea of how this should be going and since it's not going that way, it stresses me out.

    Otherwise, SSDD at work.

  • I'm sorry @CMGragain

nothing much here. I'm in fundraiser hell. It's the only one the school does so everyday has been sorting, counting, etc. I get up at 5 to get some work in,shoo the kids out at 830, take Max to preschool then go to the school until whenever. Then it's home, dinner and more work. Friday can't come soon enough.

Random- I was leaving church Sunday and a woman passing said "you have the strongest legs. Your calves are amazing". Now I want to wear a skirt and those boots every day.
  • Trying to get everything done today at work since it's my last office day this week, but also super tired and my contact lenses are messed up so my vision is slightly off.  The task I need to complete today involves transferring data from one spreadsheet to another, so I'm not thrilled about it at all.

Headed out to the chiropractor for a much needed adjustment in a few minutes so I'm hoping that will just make everything better.

CMGragain; sorry to hear that - I've read  a bit about your health journey, and that's got to be rough.

banana468; Pukey kids are gross.  Hopefully it was a one off upset and not a bug.  When DD pukes I immediately take mental inventory of everything she's eaten lately so I can assign blame to food.

16.5 years in prison.  yup.  His advocacy has really opened my eyes.  I had no idea so many people are in prison right now for crimes they didn't commit.

Holy motherfucking shit.  That is insane.

A few of the podcasts I listen to center around helping wrongfully convicted people.  I've learned so much from them.  Our system is fucked.
  • @CMGragain, I'm sorry to hear about your hair.  My mom had cancer a few years ago, luckily she is fine now, and losing her hair was a tough emotional blow for her also.  Different people have different strategies.  For her, she got some wigs and had her hairdresser style them to look just like my mom's own cut and color.  It perked her spirits some and made her feel more like herself.  Plus, her hairdresser absolutely refused to accept any money for those services.  My mom was so touched by that kindness and caring, it also helped bolster her spirits.

On a different note, I wanted to share this sweet article about a couple who have been married for 75 years...and are named Harvey and Irma!  It talks about historical events they've experienced in their long lives.  He is 104 and she is 93.  And how surprising it was those first few times they kept seeing their names together associated with hurricanes.  The story also has a general short blurb about storm naming conventions, most of which was I was not aware of.

For example, they use the same list of names every six years.  In alphabetical order.  Alternating between female and male names (that is a relatively recent change).  However, if a storm is large/famous enough, they retire the name.  In fact, Irene was usually the female name that followed Harvey.  But Hurricane Irene in 2011, retired that name.  So the name "Irma" for this year was the next in line for "I".  Of course, the names Harvey and Irma will both be retired after this season.

Here's a link for anyone who is interested:

16.5 years in prison.  yup.  His advocacy has really opened my eyes.  I had no idea so many people are in prison right now for crimes they didn't commit.

There was a big story down here awhile back about a man who was recently released from Angola after spending 25+ years there for a violent rape he actually didn't commit.  He was young when he went to prison and had spent almost his whole adult life there.

I don't remember all the details, but he'd been petitioning for years to have his DNA tested against the evidence.  He finally achieved that.  Test results came back negative.

The victim had testified in court that he had been the man who had raped her.  In a crazy twist to the story, the retested DNA pulled up the actual criminal, who already had his DNA in the system.  He was passed away by then, but did bear a strong resemblance to the man who had been convicted.

So much tragedy and sadness!  I don't know if the victim is still alive, but that would have to eat a person up inside knowing that they made a mistake and sent someone to prison for such a long time.

Episode 5 has a Dassey-esque young man.  And he's black, so that's a bigger strike against him in our system.  If Dassey pissed M off, this will not be any better.
