Dress Preservation for Canadian Brides

I originally posted this in the Canada board but am noticing that it's preeetty dead, so hopefully no one minds if I repost here:

I’m located in Kingston, ON and am trying to figure out my best option for preserving my dress. I heard good things from other brides online about the David’s Bridal preservation kit but that service doesn’t seem to be available in Canada. I love the display box they use so I am sad about it! 

There is a local dry cleaner who claims to do preservation but they send out to Toronto and if I have to have my dress shipped away, I’d rather at least deal directly with the company I’m using. 

Does anyone have any recommendations for me?

    So I don't know how David's Bridal is at preserving dresses, but if you want to go that route, there's one in East Syracuse, NY (2hrs20min from you). So if it's your only option and it's really important to you, you could make a day trip out of it. 

    Otherwise, I would just google local places that preserve gowns and read the reviews. You may have to go outside your local bubble to Ottawa or Toronto (just looking at major cities on a map) if you don't have anything local you feel comfortable with.

    Are you really certain that you want to go this route?  I loved my wedding dress 41 years ago.  Keeping it was one of the big mistakes I made.  I should have donated it to charity so some other bride could enjoy it as much as I did.  Now, 41 years later, nobody wants it, and it will probably end up in the landfill in a year or two.
    You make your own decision, of course, but I really regret that I kept that dress.  Preservation is very expensive.  I'm sure you could think of other things on which to spend that money.

    I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to keep. I plan on keeping mine for at least a few years and then I'll re-evaluate each year to determine if it is worth it. With a Groupon, mine only cost $200 which I factored into the entire cost of my wedding gown being what I could afford and wanted to spend.

    This year, I plan on bringing it out on our anniversary and wearing it while we have dinner. My H is really looking forward to seeing it again. The preservation company I went with allows one extra clean a year for $50.00. I might only do it this year, but I love the thought of getting another wear out of it.
