Super early Monday check in

edited October 2017 in Wedding Woes
I woke up at 5 and wasn't able to sleep so I lurked a bit since I've been MIA.

Congrats @misskittydanger!!!

Last week was a lot!  Who knew quitting a job was so much work?!  It was a week of emotions ranging from happy to sad and anger to vindication.  But once it was all done, and my good bye happy hour turned close the bar had passed, I was finally able to get really excited about starting this new job.

I did take some risks in my exit interview and was 100% honest about my boss (who didn't even say goodbye to me). He's a minority owner and relative, but HR ensured me the majority owner needed to know everything.

Other than that, as of today I am officially a part of the for profit wedding industry; don't hold it against me.

ETA Do we have any Vegas knotties?  Ugh waking up to this news that just keeps getting worse is heartbreaking. I feel for everyone who was there and for everyone at home wherever that is who is trying to connect with people who were there.

  • Some of the news footage is so disturbing.  There are videos from some at the concert that captured the entire tragedy.  It sends chills.
  • It's always good to be honest in an exit interview! As long as you can take away one good person to give you a reference, that's all that matters. Sounds like HR knows he's an issue.

    What's the new gig?

  • Congrats @kimmiinthemitten are you taking any time off or are you starting right away?

I have a hard time with watching the coverage, I think it's important, but there's also a point I have to stop watching and listening.

Long week up ahead for me. Big workshop on Wednesday at work that I'm facilitating, and some other projects ending. We also have someone who wants to lease to own our house and we don't know enough to make a decision yet. We've had no other offers so it might be our only option besides holding on to it longer.

    Congrats @kimmiinthemitten and good luck!

The Vegas tragedy is just horrific.  I saw it on my phone super early this morning and could not fall back asleep. And Trumpster fire tweeted he sends his 'warmest condolences'...The. Fuck?

    Let's see...the weekend.

We dropped DefConn off at my parent's on Friday. Then we went to Costco and out to dinner.  We slept in Saturday morning and hung out alone, with no kids.  It was glorious. OH and DH got approved to go on vacation AND he's getting paid.  w00t! w00t!  So we started noodling over those plans Saturday morning.  ;)

I got my hairs did and then went to Kohl's for some shopping.  The kiddo had homecoming and didn't try his pants on.  They didn't fit (too short and didn't zip)...so back to Kohl's we went.  *smh*

Sunday, grocery shopping and then house cleaning.  FIL came over with his dog.  DH and FIL went to a concert last night.  I hung out with the kids (and dog).  DefConn lost his 1st tooth (I had to do the official yanking since he was too chicken). DH got home at 1am.  Tooth fairy got the $1 slipped under the pillow right around 7am, and DefConn was up 5 min later.  (I only had $20's and DH had a $1 bill in his wallet, hence the late tooth fairy.  Thankfully, DefConn was none the wiser.)  :D

  • Congrats @kimmiinthemitten! I think it's always better to be honest in the exit interviews, and given what you've said about the company I can see how it hurt your boss didn't say anything when you left.

Vegas. One of my best friends lives there and she's an ER nurse. Her FI works at Mandalay Bay (daytime hours, thank goodness). So I'm a mess this morning. I texted her when I woke up, but probably won't hear back for a while since I'm sure she's at work and the hospitals are all bananas right now. I want to keep up with the news but OMG I can't.
  • I woke up to the Vegas news.    It's horrifying and leaves me with so many questions.

Weekend went well.   We took the kids to the Big E.   We didn't get to do a ton but we explored several state buildings, ate some delicious BBQ, had CT craft beer and walked around.   One of the agriculture buildings had multiple animals on display.   Chiquita walked over to a mama pig with her 6 baby piglets and she said, "Those things on pig look like a lot of BOSOMS!"   Hooray for the day also being a lesson into biology for kiddo!  There was a scavenger hunt and at the end she received a little key chain that looked like a cow.

Sunday we went to church where DH laid the smackdown on Chiquito's antics.   He kept acting up, deliberately screaming in mass so DH would take him out.   The men left before it was over due to the antics and when Chiquita and I got to the car DH said, "He DOES NOT get a donut."   The look on his face when we got home and there wasn't anything in the Dunkin bag made him so sad - watery eyes and puffy lips and everything.   This kid can turn it ON when he wants.   Hopefully he remembers in 6 days.

Last night we went out for a boat ride for about an hour.   We have about 3-4 more weeks before it needs to get pulled out of the water so we're trying to enjoy it while we can.   It was the easiest time getting Chiquito in it and Chiquita has taken to boating like she was born to do it.

One of the "fun" things about working from home today is that I am bleaching my shower while also working.   Go ahead and be jealous.
  • yes, the news I woke up to his horrific.  I couldn't even listen to the country radio station on my way to work because they were talking about it and having people call in from there.  What I saw on my phone was enough, and I didn't need to cry as I drove into work.  When will it end?

Weekend was nice.  The wedding we went to was very lovely.  A few faux pas but nothing major.  A small gap inbetween the ceremony and venue.  The venue was 25 minutes away and they gave everyone 1 hour to get there. People were just standing around waiting for the drinks/appetizers to be served but we all had a table to sit at.  They also had the bridal party behind the "bar" and helping out with drinks and serving stuff.  I think the majority of the bridal party were relatives, but still.....and the dinner was meatless and basically all carbs....and I'm low carbing which was difficult.  Thankfully they had the veggie tray and meatballs out still from the appetizer table so I was content.

Everything was running so beautifully and smoothly until....the dreaded dollar dance was announced.  More than half of the people were gone when it was done, but they still had a lot of people loving the idea.  I even had to explain to H why it was so tacky.

Sunday was a very restful "HGTV" day :)

  • We had a good weekend.  Friday we bought a bunch of cheese, crackers, meat, and wine and watched Grey's Anatomy and HTGAWM and snuggled.

Saturday I made us breakfast.  Then we did a bunch of chores, albeit slowly, then went to a wedding reception and K had a show that night.  We ended up running into an friend of mine who had gone through a massive life change a few years ago (divorce, stopped drinking, stopped smoking, moved to Thailand to teach English) and his GF who I hadn't met but knew from their adventures in Thailand.  She ended up getting very drunk and we helped pour her into his car.

Sunday was another slow chore day, then sent her off to work.

All in all, it was a good weekend.
  • sounds awesome @kimmiinthemitten! Good luck with it all.

  • @kimmiinthemitten, good luck with the new job!  I now expect you to regale us with weddings "cheers and jeers", lol.

My weekend was great!  We stopped at the Beau Rivage casino on the way to our friend's house.  I got $25 worth of to-go sandwiches with my free food voucher and cashed out $26 from my $50 in slot play.

It was so much fun hanging out with our friends at their new house.  We all went out to dinner at a restaurant I hadn't been to before.  I had Korean pork tacos with a ginger/garlic glaze.  Yum!

The next morning, we all went back to the Beau for their brunch.  Which included unlimited mimosas.  As it should, lol.  I had another $25 in free food vouchers, which paid for one buffet.  I also had another $50 in slot play that I cashed out for $200!!  I was playing Deuces Wild video poker and hit the 4 deuces on a line with a 4x multiplier.  Cha-ching.

We were supposed to go see Pat Benatar early Sunday evening at a local music festival, but we ended up getting back just a bit too late.  We vegged out at home the rest of the night, instead.

  • I woke up to the Vegas news too and I'm just so fucking angry and heartbroken. Almost all of the news sources I've seen so far have been quick to say it's "not a terrorist attack," which is just the biggest fucking bullshit. What else do you call opening fire on thousands of people? But he's white, right? That's riggghtttt, I almost forgot skin color mattered in defining an attack.

Today is my first day off work in a few days. They might try to get me to come in today. They called last night but I told them I wasn't going to come in without crisis pay. That would mean I worked seven days straight. So, crisis pay needed first. I am exhausted and the news this morning doesn't help. I feel so tired. Just, emotionally tired. SO is still sick, so he might be home early today. I need to get going for the day. I work tomorrow and it already feels too soon.

  • Oh vegas, how horrible. I had to turn off the news because the reporters were asking dumb questions. For some reason the age of the shooter shocked me too,64?

saturday was party prep and a bunch of soccer. It was such a gorgeous day I was happy to spend it on the fields...even happier I was sitting far, far away from asshole dad.  Saturday night at 8 pm my brother finally texted that sil and 3 kids were coming to the party. 2 glasses of wine in and I had to make another batch of cream puffs.

Sunday was the party. Everyone had fun and we ate a shitton of tasty food that was bad for us. After the party I loaded up the dishwasher and tried to turn it on. Got an error code.  Tried googling, but that code has no real at home fix. Luckily we got the extended warranty, but they won't be out until Wednesday.

Drama: sil (husband's brothers' wife). Was in a car accident a month ago. Busted headlight and fender.  Airbags didn't even deploy.  The other driver did not have insurance. Sil has not been back to work yet because of her "injuries". She has one of those "we don't get paid until you get paid" lawyers and is suing her own insurance company. One thing she's suing for is that she hasn't been able to have sex since the accident. Bil is getting really fed up with the situation and thinks his wife is out of her mind and verging on lying about things.

Oh this is the couple that are about to be grandparents again,  sil is actually thrilled that there is going to be another baby.
  • Good lord, @6fsn.  Nothing about your SIL surprises me, but she is quite...something.
  • Jury duty this week. Mine was one of the first groups called, and if I get picked for this jury, I might be done tomorrow. I doubt it though, voir dire is taking forever. I’m on lunch right now enjoying the sunshine.

Some drama this weekend. Sam (middle cat) got out of the house and went on walkabout through the neighborhood. He actually showed up on our downstairs neighbors’ porch early yesterday morning, and our neighbor tried to grab him, but he hissed and took off. He showed up on the porch again last night, and this time she was able to grab him and bring him in the house. He took off into the basement and got
himself stuck in the ceiling. Fortunately FW was able to give him a little push, and I caught him. He was scared and very dirty, but he’s OK otherwise.

Apart from that, I woke up Friday morning with the flu. I went to work but was dragging the whole day. Between the flu and the cat, I didn’t get a whole lot done this weekend.
  • Bummer you're sick @OurWildKingdom! How's jury duty? I have to admit I'm kind of jealous, I've always wanted to be on a jury.

I've been in a few "mock" juries, but never in a real one.  I suspect mock juries are usually only done for civil suits.  They pay well for the time involved, plus you get fed breakfast and lunch, lol.

I'm guessing they are also more interesting.  We're given the key, most important points and arguments.  Not all the details.

For example, I was on a mock jury involving a Katrina insurance case.  It involved dozens of buildings with thousands of repair items.  For us, they ball-parked all the numbers.  But if we'd been the actual jury, we would have had to go over the financials and losses for each and every building...including which repairs were valid and which weren't...to give an accurate total of our judgment at the end.  That sounded awful and mind numbing!  Analyzing the general financials was bad enough, lol.

  • @kimmiinthemitten congrats on the new job!!

@banana468 I grew up going to the Big E!! A friend of mine took her daughter over the weekend. I can’t wait until Babypants is a little older so H and I can start taking her!!

Addressed and wrote notes on birth announcements this morning while the little one napped. It’s a crisp sunny fall day here so she and I are going to walk to the Post Office (about a mile away) to mail the first batch.

The Las Vegas news is so horrifying. I have so many questions about the shooter. From what I’ve heard so far this was so out of character for him, but I find that hard to believe given the scale. The accounts of people who were there are so sad. My heart goes out to all of the victims and their families.
  • @banana468 and @sparklepants41, all right!  I finally gave in and Googled "The Big E".  Because I didn't know what you all were talking about, lol.  A big fair, fun!  I grew up going to the Del Mar Fair in La Jolla, CA.  Technically, I'm guessing it was the San Diego County Fair.  But it was held at the Del Mar Racetrack, so everyone called it the Del Mar Fair.

@sparklepants41, I was reading a listicle earlier today that listed states in order of the highest % of the population that have at least a Bachelor's.  Mass. was #1 and was the only state above 40%.

I wondered where Louisiana was and did a quick check to see if I could start from the BACK of the list, lol.  Yee-haw!  Louisiana was 47th.  In your face Arkansas, Mississippi, and West Virginia.

"Louisiana.  Proud to be in the bottom 10% since 1812."

  • @short+sassy , you clearly need to come up to New England in mid-late September for hot lobster rolls and the Big E.

Absolutely!  Clearly, I am totally missing out, lol.

  • Why is no one calling the shooter what he was: a terrorist?!
  • Because this day needed to end on an extra 'fuck you', Tom Petty died.

    I don't think H has seen this yet; he's H's favorite.

Apparently, he's not dead yet. But soon?  :/

I saw him live and it was one of my most favorite concerts I've ever been to.
  • Last week I got a job offer that was supposed to start this Thursday.

But because of a screwup with a background check, the start date was moved back a week.

    That sucks!!

We just went through that with DH.  It was slowly killing us.  We were so grouchy by the time his clearance came through because we were both so on edge with the waiting.
  • H’s aunt passed away this afternoon. She was in her early 90s and hadn’t been feeling well lately.

Earlier today I had made a point to pop a birth announcement in the mail for her and I had also texted H to tell him we should get Babypants over to meet this particular aunt sometime soon. I have the chills from this coincidence.
  • I'm sorry for your loss @sparklepants41
