Huge cruise sale

If anyone has been thinking about a nice vacation in the next few months, many cruise lines have dropped prices to an unprecedented low.  Jan.31, you can take a 7 day Caribbean cruise for $489 per passenger on Holland America, one of my favorite lines.  If you have been thinking about a getaway, call your travel agent soon!  I just got upgraded from a basic ocean view cabin to a suite on my December cruise!  Woo-hoo!  These islands in the eastern Caribbean need and want your tourist dollar for hurricane recovery.  Western Caribbean islands weren't really damaged at all.

Most cruise lines are not in the Caribbean during the summer season.  Too hot.  I don't know when your spring break is.  Wouldn't hurt to check.  Prices tend to drop about two months before sailing.  This is an unusual year.  I haven't seen prices this low since just after 9/11.  The cruise industry is hurting.

PS.  I just checked the spring schedule, and it is also discounted.

  • I was thinking to Christmas break, but nothing with Princess. I haven’t checked any other lines yet. Thanks for the tip though

Holland America's smaller, older ships have great food and great service.  These prices are very good!  If you book at least an ocean view cabin (at these prices, go for a balcony!), you get a bathtub and full size bathroom instead of the Mini-me showers you get on Princess.  Cabins are a bit larger with a sofa.  Be prepared to be sailing with many nice Jewish people from Florida! :)  I have sailed on both these ships.

I do have a contact at this company if you don't have a travel agent you use.  He has been with them for 8 years, and I trust him completely.  PM me.

  • Have you ever been on a cruise to Alaska CMG?  (H and I aren’t really hot weather people.). If so, would you say it’s a family friendly destination?  We’re toying with taking the kids on one in the next 5-10 years.
  • I have been on three cruises to Alaska.  I would recommend it for families, but you need to choose a cruise line that has activities on board for kids.  Princess and Royal Caribbean have good kids programs.
Be prepared to spend significant money on shore excursions.  The ports are VERY touristy, and you need to get out and see other areas.  Whale watching, train ride out of Skagway are good choices.
The most difficult age for cruising is young people between the ages of 18 and 21.  They can't hang out in the bars and they can't play in the casino.  There is nothing for them.

    Thanks!  Good to know :)

Ha about the tough age.  I’ve been on one cruise- I was 19, and it was a little boring in the night life department.  The “teen lounge” was geared towards the 12-14-yr old set.  It was nice though; lots of family time, cool excursions, tons of food  B)
