Flights from NE USA to DR

I live in CT I can either fly out of Hartford or go into NYC to fly out of JFK or Newark, I plan on going to the DR (P*nta Cana) for my honeymoon next summer but I am wondering why every flight I look up (for different dates as June 2012 is not available yet) seems to be 10+ hours of travel time.  In some cases it is 24 hours of travel time.  The DR tourism website says it is a 4 hr plane ride from NYC so I am wondering about this...does anyone else have this problem?  I do not want to travel 12+ hours to get somewhere on my HM! TIA

    Most airlines make you wait about 5-6 months before your trip to book flights.

    We went from Chicago-PC in April.  There were NO no-stop flights. We left at 6:30 am, landed in Peurto Rico and left there at 3 pm.  We arrived in DR at 4 pm.  Way back it was even longer.  Maybe that is the problem.  DR is beautiful though! :)
    It's time. Adoption saving and process started in November 2012.

    We flew Jet Blue from JFK to P*nta Cana last August on a non-stop flight and it was about 4 hours.   Try Jet Blue.
