Canada

Hi Canada Knotties. Please help :)

Hello! congrats to you all.

I am a Michigan/Metro Detroit knottie and I really need some help. My fiance and I are looking to take a mini honeymoon to either Toronto or Niagara Falls this June. I have only been to Toronto during the Caribbean Festivals and Niagara Falls once for a day trip. Would anyone please be able to recommend a Luxury hotel and maybe some nice and romantic things to do?We just want to relax, spa, eat and maybe a nice night on the town one of the evenings.

Thanks so much in advance!

For Toronto - If you want luxury - Four Seasons, Park Hyatt.  Soho Metropolitan, One King West is old fashioned and refurbished - gorgeous, King Edward hotel is old world charm

For Niagara Falls - I would stay at the Casino Hotel.  you are central to everything and it is a nice hotel - sorry I dont remember which hotel is attached to the casino (make sure it is the new casino - that one is way nicer)

If you're going to Niagara falls make sure you make a day trip, or spend the night in Niagara on the Lake.

It is a very romantic small town with a tonne of great things to do- wineries, boat tours, excellent sightseeing, bed and breakfasts.

    In Toronto:

Highly recommend One King West - that's where my wedding reception was held and where I stayed on the wedding night! It was gorgeous and they had fantastic service. Also consider the Sutton Place - that, along with Four Seasons and Park Hyatt are where all the stars stay when they're in town filming or attending the film festival. Park Hyatt has a great spa.

In June, the Royal Ontario Museum will start offering their weekend afternoon teas again ($25pp) - it's delicious and the restaurant is very swanky. If you like museums, there's also the Art Gallery of Ontario.

Spend a day walking along the harbourfront, and take a ferry over to the Toronto Islands. Depending on which weekend you arrive, the dragon boat festival may be happening at Centre Island - it's a little crazy and hectic then, but there's plenty of space to get away from that. You can rent a bike on the island too.

Spend a day exploring High Park. Dream in High Park starts June 25 - an outdoor production of a Shakespeare play put on every evening except Monday. This year they're putting on Romeo & Juliet. It's free but they suggest a donation of $20 for entrance.

You can also take a double decker bus tour of the city, and I believe that for $40pp or so, you can hop on and off as much as you like, all day. There are also free walking tours of the city.

In Niagara, I'd highly recommend staying in a B&B in Niagara-On-The-Lake. If you have your car, you can drive over to the falls for an afternoon & evening, but I find that the Niagara Falls town itself has become really kitschy and cheesy lately. NOTL is much more peaceful and romantic. Book yourself a wine tasting lunch or dinner at Hillebrand or Peller.

For phenomenal restaurants, check out Canoe or Scaramouche!

The Royal York Fairmont is also a good luxury hotel. You can try booking these luxury hotels online through hotwire to save yourself a ton of cash. It might be nice to rent some bikes and take a bike ride along the path on lakeshore ave. and then have a picnic by the lake. You can also rent bikes or canoes at centre island if you prefer.

We stayed at the Sherton on the falls a couple months ago, we had an amazing view! Its just accross the street from the falls, there was a wedding taking pictures in the court yard right out front actually. I highly reccomend the king jacuzzi fallsview rooms, very nice!!
