At least none of the major jewelery stores in the mall won't, nor will Things Remembered. Anyone know of anywhere that will? It doesn't necessarily have to be in this area. TIA

Is your entire wedding party standing alongside you and your fiancé? I was raised Conservative but part of my family is Orthodox so I have only ever been to an Orthodox Jewish wedding. I'm not sure what should be done in a Conservative wedding. Our Rabbi said we could do "as little or as much" as we want. I don't want to completely defy Jewish tradition but there are still some traditional wedding elements that I want to remain...

Hi again everyone, I'm curious about people's reactions (or lack of them) to a potential plan to use a cat stevens song for the processional. since i met FI in 2002 (although we didnt start dating until 2007) the cat stevens song "silent sunlight" has been very special to both of us. unfortunately, i know that cat stevens (aka yusuf islam) has, in the past, been noted for a number of hurtful (and ridiculous) anti semitic remarks. i am sensitive to the idea of not using composers and artists who are hateful, but i'm not totally sure how to handle this. FI feels strongly about the song, and about the fact that a piece of music is its own entity from the person who composed it -- that they each stand alone. i certainly can see that side of things, but i guess i also see the other side. personally, i think i would be OK with using the piece (especially because its particular message is pleasant) but i am worried about offending other people, etc. any thoughts would be great! thanks lynnie

I'm planning to use the chuppah material that my great-grandfather (who was a rabbi) used whenever he was the officiating rabbi. So, we're not doing a free-standing chuppah, and are opting to have our chuppah holders walk in with it, holding on to wooden poles. so, my question is related to the poles...i have a friend who can get me branches to use, but he's not jewish and has never done this before. i'm not sure how early is too early to have him cut the branches and get them to me. any recommendations from those of you who have used wooden poles? I'm afraid that if he cuts them too early, the branches might dry out too much and look bad/be uncomfortable for people to carry. If it's very close to the wedding, I'll likely get nervous that it might not work somehow (and my friend is getting them for me from his property that is about 4 hrs driving from where we live and where the wedding is). Please let me know if you have any ideas on timing of cutting branches and/or a plan B for something to attach to the chuppah material. Thanks!

so, i thought it would be easy for us jews, since our holidays usually have 2 nights of celebration. 2 months ago, I asked my mom and FMIL to think about what night they wanted to host Rosh Hashana dinner. Both told me it would too early to think about. Then within a day of each other, they both decided to host Saturday night. Hosting for my mom is at her house, the night before will be at our family friend's house. Hosting for FI's family is at a family friend's house. The first night, then have no plans. I know it would hurt my mother not to go when she is hosting, but if we go to my mom's the second night, then we aren't celebrating at all the first night. FI doesn't want to go to my family both nights (I don't blame him). If we switch, and do my family friend on Friday, and his on Saturday, then my family gets very minimal time, because his other family friend does a big lunch on Saturday, and FI doesn't want to miss it. But going to that, and Saturday dinner at his house, means leaving my parents right after dinner on Friday, or first thing Saturday... having spent a few hours at my parents, and an entire day plus at his. Also factored in, is we are spending Thanksgiving with his family this year, even though it falls on my dad's birthday, because we did Thanksgiving with my family last year. Sorry this is long, and probaby confusing. Any advice or similar problems? Thanks.
