Hello everyone! I am needing some desperate help with invitations.

My fiance and I are having 2 ceremonies and 2 receptions (1 is a dinner and the other is the large full reception). We are having a Christian ceremony on a Friday followed by a dinner for all guests. Then we are having a Hindu ceremony (3 hour ceremony) followed by the actual reception for all guests. We are having these in the same town (not where we or any family live - so all out of town guests) but in different locations within the town.

I am having difficulties finding invitations that will accomodate 2 ceremonies. I don't really have time to DIY for 150 invitations. Our weddings are May 28th and 29th of this year.

I have found invites on Vistaprint that allow you to arrange and add text boxes, that way I could have both ceremonies on the main invite. I was thinking of just getting extra enclosure cards to cover hotels, map and directions, both reception information, and an RSVP.

I'm not familiar with Indian wedding traditions at all, and his standard answer to any question I have is, "I dunno. I never paid attention at the family weddings; I was just there for the parties." His mother is currently refusing to acknowledge our engagement (racism abounds and nobody's happy he picked a white girl), so she won't discuss wedding stuff with me. She'll talk out anything else, but clams up the minute you utter the word "wedding."

So I'm here, hoping that at least some of my questions will get answers. Thanks in advance, ladies!

~Is the actual structure/shape of the havan kund significant? Can we use a regular brazier?

~Who starts the fire and what is used to start it (charcoal, wood, etc)? Who puts it out at the end of the ceremony? We're getting married by a notary - will this duty fall to him?

~FI hates my hair covered. Is a dupatta a requirement or can I get away with not wearing one? If it's imperative, does it have to match the sari? I haven't narrowed down my final sari choice, but none of the ones in my price range come with a matching dupatta.

~Regarding the processionals - I've watched a few videos of Indian weddings and it seems that there is a huge processional for the groom, after which the bride's family always greets the groom's family at the entrance. Then there is an equally huge processional for the bride. Who is in the bride's processional if her family is greeting his family? And how do we make such things work when we have a 70-person guest list, my white family won't know what to do, and the dressing rooms are connected to the garden area where our wedding will take place?

~About invitations - we're planning on having all the wedding celebrations over a weekend - starting on Friday evening with the henna party/sangeet, figuring out something for Saturday (no clue what yet), and ending on Sunday evening with the wedding. Can we put all of the invitations for these events with the wedding invitation, or should we send separate invites for each event?

~About the henna party - is the bride supposed to host that? What do we need for such a party, beyond food and a henna artist? Should I maybe try to rent out one of the local Indian restaurants for the evening or can it be held at someone's home?

I think that covers everything so far. Thanks again for any input you can offer.
Half of the guest list are from overeas (FI is Indian) so we are expecting a larger attrition rate from those people. If I add those calculations, that means we will have about 256 people. I am SUPER SCARED we will run out of chairs/room!!!

BTW, our only option is to try and reduce the guest list as changing the venue is impossible.

I thought it would be nice to include an explanation of some wedding customs that will be foreign to most of our guests. But I don't know how to explain the few Indian customs we're using without feeling like I'm missing something or over-explaining.

In a nutshell, we're going to have a fusion handfasting/wedding under a mandap and a fire and possibly the seven steps. I'm not sure about that last one yet - I'm trying to figure out a way to make those seven vows work with the six vows for the handfasting and I can't decide if we should do the steps before the cord ceremony (which takes up the bulk of our ceremony) or after the cords are tied. Maybe we walk around with our hands tied instead of our clothes?

Anyway. Does anyone know how I can concisely but accurately explain these customs to our non-Indian guests without offending the Indian ones? He considers himself more American than Indian and has no clue how to explain them. I'd ask his family for help, but they aren't supportive of us. He's only inviting his parents and his brother, and at the moment they're against our relationship at all. We're including those few customs because I like them, but they aren't even willing to talk to me, let alone help me with ANYthing related to the wedding.

I'm still on the fence about getting mehndi for my wedding (eek - 10 days away!). There's no way we can afford to bring someone out to our wedding site. I also don't think that any of my bridesmaids want it, so I'm considering going on my own before I leave for the wedding. Does anyone have an idea of how long it will look good, especially if I just do henna on the insides of my hands? Could I get it done on Wednesday for a Saturday wedding? Also, how long does it take to dry? I am so swamped for time that I just don't know how much time I have to spare... Also, is there a way to get it off? I have a few meetings, etc., the week after the wedding so it might make sense to take it off before then. Thanks as always!

Any suggestions? I can find a non-Indian make up and hair artist, but my mom is concerned about not having help getting dresed. Any suggestions? Thanks!
