Outdoors in January?

How do you guys feel about an outdoor wedding in January in Phoenix?

FI and I found a venue we love, but we would be outside for the most part. Obviously, we would rent heaters and provide hot drinks/food as well as forewarn people to bring a coat on the wedding website. We want to do a cocktail style reception so people would be up and moving, and the reception would be shorter overall (no 6 hours in the cold!). We would also have a back up ballroom (in case of rain) that we could maybe utilize if we end up a week out with some sort of major cold front/freak weather.

Does anybody have experience with outdoor heaters? Do they work well enough to allow our guests to be comfortable for 2 to 3 hours?

Edit: I should add that we could go with a mid-day or evening wedding, so if people think it would be too cold after sunset but nice during the day, let me know! :)

If you aren't familiar with weeklyplus.com check out the website (it's kinda like groupon but without the 'group' aspect...so I guess it's just deals and discounts).

I got an email today with a deal from Xavier Limo. $15 for an hour of towncar services or $15 for a $45 credit towards limo services. If you are thinking about a 'get away car' this might be a good deal for you! :)

We're planning to have our wedding in a friend's backyard in Las Sendas in Mesa. If the weather is nice, it will be gorgeous! I'm concerned about what to do if it rains, though. The backyard is huge, and renting tents to cover it all will cost us $2,000! Plus, there are several trees, and I don't know that a standard tent would be tall enough to go over them. FI wants to custom build a tent, but that will be expensive, too, and a lot of work. I'm thinking about moving the wedding to a different venue, or trying to book one "just in case" that wouldn't penalize us too much to cancel a week before if the weather forecast calls for clear skies. If we move to a different venue entirely, I'd love to book a place that has pretty outside grounds as well as an inside option, so we're covered no matter what the weather does. The problem is that a venue has so far not been part of our budget, and they all seem so expensive! Does anybody have any suggestions or advice about tents or venues? I'd appreciate any words of wisdom anyone has to offer. :-) Thanks!

BM Dress Alterations

I am a bridesmaid in a wedding later this fall. I expect to receive my dress next weekend, but the bride tells me that it will probably be too big for me. As a result, I expect that I need to have some serious alterations done, though, of course, I don't know exactly what, yet.

Does anyone have any recommendations for who to go to for BM dress alterations?

I am really having the hardest time with florists getting back to me on things. Is it unreasonable to expect an email within a week or so after emailing about getting together to discuss a quote? Or two and a half weeks (after 2 emails) asking a question on a quote?

Also having trouble hearing from a makeup/hair person I was excited to hear from.

Sigh - just would like to get some of these things wrapped up and seems to be taking forever.

Oh - if anyone has any florist recommendations - I'm all for it. (butterfly petals and ever after are booked, talked with blume - was expensive though, petals and lucy, and pink petal shop). Thinking of checking out a safeway or something.

We will not be going on our honeymoon right away. We want to do an Alaskan cruise but since we are getting married in February that cruise doesn't run then. We don't want to go home the night of the wedding, we would like to stay in a hotel or resort someplace. I really want the whole wedding night atmosphere...rose petals, strawberries, whipped cream etc. Where is everyone else going on the night of the wedding...any suggestions??

Donating Dishes

So my shower was Friday and I received a lot of new dishes. So all of mine are mismatched, but they're still in good condition. Where can I donate them? I know Goodwill is a go-to, but I would rather they not be sold after I donate them. Is there an organization or charity that gives dishes and appliances to people who need them? TIA!

I just had to share what a wonderful experience I had while visiting Arizona last weekend... since we had a trip planned to visit my Dad we decided to do our E-pics in our favorite place- Arizona.. Jacquelin Phillips with Moments in Film was AMAZING. She was fun, personable, and the pics turned out amazing! I HIGHLY recommend her for engagement or wedding pics. I'm considering having her fly up to Washington for my wedding!!

Alternative Receptions

Thanks to our ever-expanding guest-list (and disagreement about the extent to which it will be trimmed), I am now brainstorming ideas for alternative receptions (besides dinner and drinks in the evening) to keep costs down. Brunch? Dessert? Other? I'd like to avoid late night, because it would be hard on grandparents and little nieces/nephews, all of whom are very important to us.

Does anyone have any great ideas for locations for any of these sorts of receptions? It would probably involve 200-250 guests. The budget will be hammered out this weekend, but will probably be $10-12,000, and if we don't trim, I think a dinner reception will be out of the question. The ceremony site is still on the drawing board, but will be separate from the reception. A Friday or Sunday, unfortunately, is not an option for us. The wedding, however, will be in July, so venues do need to be indoors.

Having second thoughts on my Venue

So... I LOVE my venue which is the Boojum Tree Hidden Gardens. But I find myself having some second thoughts and thinking that there may be some better options for me now. I'm just a very indecisive person, so when I make decisions later I begin second guessing myself and feeling like I made the wrong choice. I've already paid about 50% of the cost so canceling isn't a good option. Anyone else feel this way? Advice?

Okay so I just made an appointment to get my first session ever of laser hair removal on Monday for my bikini area. And now I'm getting scared! I started researching online and I'm reading all this experiences of the pain being unbearable! So for those of you who've gone through it, how was the pain for you? And what are some tricks to prevent pain? And also, I just realized I might be starting my period this weekend so should I reschedule? But the place I'm getting it at is NuU Medspa which has locations in Scottsdale, North Scottsdale, and Arrowhead. The reason I'm going there is only because I won a free treatment. So I need reviews! I'm getting married on Sunday 10/10/10!

I just moved here to Phoenix to be with my fiance, so I don't have a hair stylist already, and am looking for recommendations.

We're on a tight budget, so I'm not looking for one of the packages at a fancy salon for hundreds of dollars. I'm looking for someone REAL. I'm pretty low stress and low maintenance - and am looking for someone similar.

If you know of anyone, or have any "Don't even THINK of this place" - I'm open to hear from everyone!

She is getting married at the Desert Botanical Gardens and we are looking for someone to come to the venue and do our hair and make up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA!
