color combo help

I need color combo help!! I had originally wanted a blue/brown color combo. My FH does not want a real light blue and we both like the Horizon blue (seen at David's Bridal). Is the Horizon blue too dark to pair with brown? I was also thinking about pairing Horizon blue with lime green...any suggestions??

Hi Girls! I am an old school Knotie who is a Nestie now. I guess the Knot takes away how many posts you've done once you get married and booted over to the nest! lol

Anyway, I just wanted to poke my head in. Introduce myself, I swear i'm not a random! LOL! I know some of the knotie girls here post over on the PHX nest as well looking for advice. So I thought I might poke my head over here every once in a while and chime in on some posts.

I do work P/T(like 2 saturdays a month) for a vendor, though I wont say who it is, because I know thats a no no ;)

Anyway, I am full of info and way obsessed with weddings, so if you have any questions let me know.

My Vendor List

Wedding Dress: Azteca, Got a smoking deal on it, beware though they have crappy customer service.

BM Dresses: I Do I Do....The dresses turned out AMAZING, however I Do I Do can eat a bag full. They are terrible. I had to write a 2 page letter to the owner. I hear that it is now owned only by the guy of the family and that the service got worse. Which is to bad, its a cute shop

Tuxes: Jims Formal Wear...which I Do I Do and a bunch of other places rent. I liked Jims better then Mens Warehouse because the color and pattern selection was sooo much better then MW. I did rent them thru I Do I Do and didnt have any issues with them.

Flowers: Butterfly Petals!!!!!!!! Cant say enough great things about Amanda. She RULES!

Cake: Classic Cake and Confections! Yummmmmm Ella is awesome! Not onl do her cakes look amazing but they taste amazing as well. Some bakeries in the Valley have really cool looking cakes, but lack in the taste department. Not Ella's!

Invites and all things paper: Definitely Debra! Our invites came out amazing! We've been married over a year and people STILL have our invites on their fridge! Our table numbers, programs and all the little signs we did around the venue came out so great.

Venue: Corona Ranch. We got married here because we had such a large guest # (our final was 286). the food is AMAZING and CHEAP! I think we paid something like $25 a person! The site is really pretty, but rustic. And far. We had a lot of people leave early and I think its because the venue was just to far and people wanted to get home. My contact Diana was amazing all the way up until the day of my wedding. She and I got into it a few times and so I hold some reservation with recomending this place. But if you are on a budget, give it a look.

DJ: My DH is involved in the local music scene, we were able to get a friend to do it for free.

Band: Again, got a band for free!!!!!!!

Photogs: We had friends do it who are amazing! We paid very little for the friend discount.

Videographer: Again friends.

Alterations: Janet Kirkman! She does amazing work and doesnt charge crazy prices.

Wedding night hotel: Point Hilton Squaw Peak. All of our OOT guests stayed here because they have 2 story casitas. So it made it really easy for families. Also gettng ready the morning of with 9 BM's in my room made it super easy because of all the space.

Mini-Moon: We paid for most of the wedding ourselves so DH's parents gave us a mini moon since we had zero $ left for a real honey moon. We went to L'Auberge de Sedona....UNREAL! WE had a private cabin by the creek. It was sooo relaxing! It is super $$$ but worth every penny!

I think I covered everything :)

Is there any way to go back to the original guest list? the new one doesn't work for me. If I can't go back to the old one, how am I supposed to put in whether they RSVP yes or no? Doesn't writing it on a separate piece of paper negate the whole idea of doing this online in the first place?

I've been a member of The Knot for a few months now, and learned about the boards not to long ago (gotten a lot of great ideas and vendor information)!

I have the location picked and my dress purchased already. Still working on a florist, a baker, and now a DJ (my original choice, a friend of mine, is now unavailable. But she's having a baby so its fanstastic!).

About the proposal - Jesse and I had discussed getting married and had already started making plans mid last year. So I knew we were getting married, I just was not sure when he was going to ask for my hand.

Christmas Eve 2009, we went to pick up my Grandparents to head to Jesse's Father's sides festivities. We get to his Aunts place and after an hour of mingling, we get ready to sit down to dinner. His Aunt asks him to say the blessing.

Jesse proceeds to announce in front of everyone how we've started planning, but he has skipped an important step. He turns to me, and gets down on one knee. All I hear after that point is white noise. And he doesn't remember what he said either since he did not have anything prepared. lol

I found out later that night that he also asked my Grandparents permission prior to popping the question, which meant a lot to me.

11/06/2010 is the day I'll be marrying my best friend!

Final Dress Fitting! - PIP

I've been dying to gush about my dress for months, but since my dear sister designed and made it, she has forbidden me to take pictures until we got to the final product. (This will be going in her portfolio, so she wanted everything perfect before the "reveal" to anyone. Oh, fashion designers...!)

Well guess what!! I have the final product!!!

Here's my custom-designed and custom-made wedding dress (I love my sister!). Ignore the clutter - these pics were taken in my sister's bedroom. Haha...

It's ivory satin with a french lace overlay and a sweep train. The overlay has some mettalic sheen to it and beading/embroidery.

STDs...now what do I do?

So we have our STD magnets sitting here in a box wanting to be sent on their way to announce the great news! BUT....how do I do it? Do I just put them in an envelope, stamp and send? Do I include a card? What kind and size envelope do I use?
Just wondering...maybe you had some ideas or what you may have done if you used magnets as well! I don't want to get too fancy or spend alot of money!

We are having our engagement photos taken next weekend. I am wearing a dress and would like to spray tan prior to the session.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have heard that many brides on the board use Scottsdale Spray Tan. Any other suggestions or ideas?

I am not against Scottsdale Spay Tan - just exploring all of my options!

Teeth whitening

I have been trying to get in to my dentist for three weeks for this service. I am super annoyed that they can't get me in. I tried calling another place to get an appointment this morning and they wanted 2x the amount for this service. Any recs for teeth whitening? Thanks!

Just wanted to let any ladies who are looking for a wedding venue in Northern AZ, Radisson Poco Diablo is awesome. Marion Leonard is amazing, we are working on a budget but still wanted a beautiful wedding and she worked with us to make that happen. She was the only one I found who really seemed to care about what we wanted. I love her and the place is GORGEOUS!!!

Also, not sure if it was an isolated experience but Little America in Flagstaff was beyond rude.

How much for catering?

Hi again all!

So as I am venue hunting- I'm coming across of a pretty wide variety of places: some are inclusive with catering, some you can bring in your own caterers and bartenders. I'm trying to price out how much these items will be before deciding on a venue- or at least getting a general ball-park.

Are any of you getting your own caterers? If so- how much does it come out to be per person? Also= are you finding that the caterers charge an additional fee for cake cutting? I realize that nearly every caterer will probably be different= there are so many. I'd just like to get some idea from you ladies who have likely already done a lot of research. Thanks again all!!!

The people who owned An Affair to Remember bridal shop have closed their shop without warning or notification to their customers. I ordered my dress from them in september and they never ordered it. If you have ordered from them contact the manufacturer. I did this via another store who sold Casablanca dresses. They told me my order was not made. They also lied about the dress sizes that the designer sells in.

Casablanca are sitting on 2 made dresses ordered through An Affair to Remember. They are made and if they could be yours please ask a bridal shop to call Casablanca. Casablanca do not have the brides' details as that happened through the store.

If you have ordered do check that your order was actually placed and make contact so that Casablanca can still send you your dress.

If anyone hears any news about this shop please tell me as I want my money back. I hope you get your dresses.

Update since my last post...still NO DRESS!!!

I was told it would arrive today so I could go in tomorrow and pick it up. Good thing I called today to confirm because .....surprise surprise, they forgot to call the manufacturer. So yet again I had to call to follow up and was told the manufacturer "found" it at their shop (which ok, doesn't that make it sound like it's been tossed in some shady corner?!) and they would ship it out tomorrow and it should now get here next week - good thing I'm travelling for the next few weeks! (sarcasm)

I explained that I DO I DO needs to get me the tracking number because I am fed up and don't believe a thing they say at this point. I was told ...wait for it.......yep, THEY'D CALL ME BACK...well do you think they did?! OF COURSE NOT!

So I called back just now, only to be told well the manufacturer is closed now...I'll have to call you back tomorrow.

I told her...you probably should because at this point, I'm going to start coming to your salon every day and telling every bride that is in there the experience I've had! And don't think for a second, that I will not share this with everyone in there when I go to pick up my dress.

Seeing as they can't handle this, I"m now totally stressing as to whether or not they even ordered the right dress and what if I'm 3 months from my wedding and have no dress?!

DO NOT USE I DO I DO BRIDAL - oh, unless you like stress...then, carry on

I get MOH and BM (funny by the way), but some of them are just puzzling me. I am an English teacher who usually does not struggle to decipher these things. Please help! :)

I am a brand new bride-to-be, and am just starting to seriously look for a venue. I have done a ton of online research, but I am wondering what else might be out there that I am not finding. Probably will be around 100 guests, or a little less, and we would like to have the wedding outside, on a moderate budget. I love The Farm at South Mountain and the Secret Garden, so something along those lines is perfect. We want to get married this October. Any great lesser known places?

Dress makers?

Long story short: I fell in love with (and bought!) a dress that fit perfectly, is the exact style I've always pictured etc, but it has... flaws. Big, blue, splotchy flaws. Unfortunately, the website I bought this dress from did not warn me of these flaws (I am getting my money back, though).

So, now that I have this dress in the back of my mind, all other dresses don't compare. So I need someone to make it for me, sans blue of course! Do any of you know of trustworthy and budget friendly dress makers in the valley?

I e-mailed Janet Kirkman to find out if she will make dresses from scratch or if she only does redesigns/alterations. Anybody have any other leads?
