My wedding is on July 17th so I'm on a time crunch, and with the 405 freeway closure that weekend, a lot of artists out of the area are adding on large travel fees which is not feasible for me due to a limited budget.

Need gift help from a local!

We are going to the wedding of a college friend in 2 weeks, and since they live in LA we either have to ship a gift off their registry to their apartment, do cash or a gift card.

I was thinking about being creative and getting them gift cards for a "date night" out in LA after the wedding (they aren't taking their honeymoon right away). So I wanted to do dinner and a movie.

Is there any restaurant chains where if you buy the gift card you can use it at multiple different places? (Like here in Chicago we have Lettuce Entertain You, and they have like 30 different restaurants all over Chicago with different types of food, different names/themes, etc...). That way they could choose what type of place they want to use it at rather than me guessing what ONE restaurant they would like?

Also what movie theaters are popular out there? AMC? (They technically live in Burbank-but I think that's considered LA-ish right?)

Was wondering If anyone went with or is going with J&M entertainment for there dj. There pricey but there fun room, with the cloud cover demenstration was amazing. It's way out of our budget ($2700). But Fi and I are considering saving up for it. But I wanted to know if anyone here has had experience with them and what are your thoughts?

I'm so happy today I went dress shopping David Bridal with the fam, and at first they showed me strapless after strapless and althought they where ok...I didn't love any of them.

But the just as I was leaving the asked me to try on one last dress, an As is dress that the didn't realize they had.

It looked amazing on it was everything that I was looking for. When i started to walk towards the podium I could here my bridal march song playing in my head
Tears it was me, I didn't dare ask the price.

But then the lady told me it was as is $500 i thought well I was hoping for $400 then they checked again it was only $298. Brand New....God is so good I started crying, then my aunt started crying ....Thank you Jesus

C & L linen dilema!!

I booked C&L Linens for my June wedding and asked for a white damask style lace overlay back in Jan. I was told that it wouldn't be a problem and my sample would be made soon. After 6 weeks of trying to get a hold of the owner, she tells me not to worry because my black floral design lace is ready to see. BLACK?! FLORAL?! This after she tells me that she's been too sick to return my calls, yet she was always with a client when I called (hence why she was too busy to come to the phone). I let her know from the start that i it was going to be a problem, I would have made another choice or chosen another vendor. UGH!!! Now, I'm 2 months away from my wedding and I may be forced to request a refund and find another vendor. Any recs?????

I'm going to repost this for a fellow knottie, it has some things that are debatable for sure, but what came after she posted was unheard of for a professional business.The co-owner Cecy Tabibian came on and posted 4 times, personal emails she received from the original OP, which included full name, phone numbers, work address email address etc. I've reported it, so hopefully it will be taken down, but I am infuriated for the OP that a "professional business" would even think to do this.

"If you value your money and your wedding do not use these people. First of all they LIE, second of all they don't perform like they say they will and third of all - they are rude to your guests.

I hired them for $1000 for "day of" wedding planning services (which from what I researched from other vendors included being involved from 2 weeks in advance on an intimate level and making sure your vision becomes actualized). These people were extremely difficult to get a hold of, acted like they were doing ME a favor by working for me and introduced me to vendors that were straight crooks.

First, they promised me a Bentley limo - for $450 (I asked if this included gratuity and they said no) the Chrysler 300 (yes – Chrysler – which I was supposed to believe looked like a Bentley ) showed up at my door. Maybe in the village they are from – 300s and Bentleys are the same – but this is LA and I am not a villager. I had even ASKED them because I found a Hummer for $350 if they could cancel it and let me use the new vendor – they said that they would take care of me.

On the day of – the limo shows up 2 hours late and then the planner yells at my fiancé saying HE was supposed to make sure the limo was arriving on time. Really? Have you ever heard of a customer having to remind a vendor to be on time? The 300 was sent back and an Escalade was sent. The Escalade smelled like urine, had used and half empty soda cans and water bottles in it, no A/C and a broken LCD – and was disgusting. Seriously?

Let’s say this wasn’t the planners’ fault. Let’s give em a little credit and say it was beyond their control – did they do anything about it, NO! They even had the nerve to act annoyed at us ON OUR WEDDING DAY! They ruined everything… literally. They were rude to my vendors, my guests and most importantly my fiancé. They lied about what they were going to deliver and had no shame in leaving my wedding early without even sticking to the timeline THEY created.

Simply horrible and I hope NO ONE ever uses them again. These people generated a timeline they didn’t stick to, plans they didn’t keep and promised us services they could not deliver. To make matters worse, we didn’t get our speeches, a toast and we even had the bride’s shoes stolen from right under the planners’ noses. Don’t hire these people if you value your memories.

I want to go to the trunk show/sale that is going on this Sunday 7/10 at Monique Lhuillier's pop up store in downtown LA but wasn't sure how early I should get there or what goes on. I don't want to get trampled or anything so just wondering if anyone has been to a sale like this before and can tell me what to expect. Should I show up and stand outside 3 hours early and should I go prepared to wrestle someone down for my beloved Bailey dress? Also is it worth going to this... as in what is the average discount offered at events like this? Thanks in advance for your comments and/or advice.

I'm not going dress shopping until late in the summer, but I'm starting to think about places I'd like to go. David's Bridal always seems to be put down, but there are quite a few dresses on the website that I really like! I was also thinking of going to Castle for Brides in Huntington. Where else should I go? Where did you go? I'm on a pretty tight budget as well.

It's pretty awesome, I found Manzanai branches (spelling not my best subject) for 12 bucks!!!

And they have flowers galore, I'm serious I couldn't believe all the things down there, I'm going back this saturday as well. I here there's a street that actually has wedding dresses not sure where.

What is too cold for an outdoor wedding

Hi - we are getting married in Santa Clarita CA at a private residence outside. Its a beautiful setting, I am just worried about the weather. I am from the east coast, my fiance is from LA. We have not set the date yet. We are thinking either november or april. But the weather from around 10pm-midnight on those days is 55-60. is that too cold? Would heat lamps be a good idea? the ceremony starst at 4pm but the reception would go late.

Deputy for the Day Officiants?

This may be a general marriage license question. Bear with my ignorance, if that's the case.

My fiance and I would like a friend of ours to officiate the wedding and it would send big, unmanageable ripples through the wedding planning if we can't make it happen.

So, when I looked into getting the DFTD paperwork, I noticed that one of the requirements is that bride or groom be residents of the county where the certificate/license are issued. We live in Los Angeles but the wedding is in Orange County.

Does it matter what county your certificate and license are issued in vs. where you're actually married? I'm assuming it just has to remain in California but I don't know! Help!
