Hello to any bride, or planner, planning a wedding at Fort Langley National Historic Site of Canada:

Fort Langley is supposed to be an awesome place to go, and really it is. But if you're thinking of having your wedding here, please think twice.

We just recently had our wedding there this past August. The venue was awesome for pictures and everyone had an amazing time, but that's probably because they don't know everything else that happened.

Leading up to the day, communicating with them was extremely difficult to say the least. No one would respond to me for weeks and when they did, I would get one word replies to a paragraphs long message. Arranging everything (which was all done by me. while going to school and working full time) was hard. I persevered because I thought it would be worth it.

Then, much closer to the day, they put me in contact with someone else. Who was absolutely amazing. She made our day even more memorable. I will NEVER forget her and her amazingly warm, kind and helpful personality.

Unfortunately, most of what was communicated to the original person in charge of our wedding, (I suspect) never got communicated to her (a big example of this was whether or not security would be hired for the overnight care of our belongings that had to be left behind. This caused A LOT of frustration and unnecessary stress leading up to our day, and now more than a month later.

At 11:30pm on a Saturday they RUSHED us out of the facility. Liquor and gifts and everything we could see and grab was hastily loaded into limos. All the while were being told (rather rudely) to get off the property. We loaded the liquor and attempted to load the non-alcohol despite being told by the bartender we were not allowed to do so (the bartender was hired by the Fort Langley on-site caterer but we knew we had to take it as our liquor license was over -- something he should know as bartender).

So off we rush -- my new husband and I to our honeymoon and our guests to the after party. We leave the clean up to our generous friends and family. Upon their arrival to the fort, they see strewn Red Bull. Broken drink dispensers. Missing audio equipment. Missing wedding cake. Someone had VERY OBVIOUSLY broken in and stolen the most expensive items they could find.

Jumping the fence is rather easy to do, which we were told by Fort staff prior to our event (hence us discussing security). Thankfully it wasn't much, but my brand new stand mixer (in yellow!) had been mistakenly left behind (that's what we get for rushing). I had been waiting years for that stand mixer and I hadn't even taken it out of the box. But it was gone. (This, by the way, is really the only thing I care about that was taken.) Apparently the security we were told they would look into was never followed through with. If we had been told this, we would have hired our own -- in fact, we had been looking into it for another venue we were considering. Unfortunately for us, we were told they would do it.

So they waited TEN DAYS to call the police. The police have told us The Fort has rather poor security -- dim lighting, etc. Now the fort is telling us that there was no evidence of a break in (because apparently we would throw Red Bulls around, break our own drink dispensers and steal our own stuff.) In fact, we are apparently to blame (this comes after we told by several Fort employees that our belongings would be safe if we left them there). Haha.. Ahhh...!!!!

They do not have the experience to deal with weddings. There is no understanding of the amount of communication, time, work and MONEY that is necessary to plan such a significant event.

BEWARE of holding such a significant event with them. And if you do plan on having one there, make sure you hire security if you leave ANYTHING behind.

Hey guys! So my fiancee and I were initially dreaming of Hawaii and tropical flowers and drinks in coconut shells. But alas, we have ended up with basically no budget room for a honeymoon. If it's a choice between Hawaii and feeding our relatives, I choose the relatives.

Anyways! Is there anywhere along the west coast that wouldn't be too far away, has a beach that gets WARM, and has more of a pamper vibe than a roughing-it vibe? I don't want to camp, I want massages and romance and bathing suits. Does that exist in the region without spending as much as we would on flights/hotels for far-away destinations?

We are new to the area. Help would be very appreciated!

So, my MOH has been my best friend since forever. She was living quite far away from me when I first got engaged, but has since moved and now lives about 2 hrs away. The wedding is not for another 9 months, and right now, my fiance and I are focusing more on HOW we're going to pay for things, so I have not really had time to think about little details. My MOH, however, feels like I am not including her anything. I picked out my dress when I was shopping with my fiances cousin who was in town visiting, and I thought it would be a good bonding experience between us since I had not met her before and she is going to be my family as well. I wasn't even expecting to find a dress - she just happened to pick it out and I tried it on. So, my MOH was upset about that. Then I recently found my wedding shoes on sale and my Mom bought them for me as a gift. My MOH got upset about that coz she wasn't there when I found them.

I don't know what I am supposed to do here - there is nothing she can help out with right now coz we don't have money to spend until later. I can't have her getting mad at everything I do/buy without her because we aren't around each other 24/7.

Any suggestions?? Has anyone else had to deal with issues like this??

Dear Brides...Beware of the Waterfall Building.. near Granville Island. I just had my wedding there summer 2011. Property Management will be absent, unprofessional, lie to your face, and you will pay for rentals that are not washed, nor laid out for use, my caterer cooked in the dark for an hour, he never responded to anything promptly.... Please save yourself the grief and use any other venue. There are many other reasons but in fairness I can't prove the other items so I only spoke about the items that were supported by clear evidence. There are so many beautiful modern venues around the city... especially some amazing restaurants that can be decorated to perfection with the added bonus of amazing food. Good luck...

I thought that this was the ideal venue for my wedding next September. I was new, inexpensive, centrally located for all my guests from around the lower mainland and best of all they offered a complimentary wine tour and tasting for your guests while your off having pictures taken.

When we first visited this venue in April of this year we fell in love and the staff seemed so helpful. We were told that they were planning on putting in a kitchen over the summer and upgrading the floors, paint ect, but that they had a wedding booked in August so it would all be done before then. We had some other venues to see but nothing really compared so in early May I called to confirm and booked our date.
At this point I was told that there was a stall with the renos, that the permits had not come through yet but they were hoping to get done this fall. I booked my date with them thinking that with a wedding the following fall there would be plenty of time and the girl assured me that they would keep me updated on the progress of things.
By August I hadnt heard anything and I was getting nervous. I called them again and spoke with another employee who told me that were not making confirmations at the time until after the renovations were completed.

I discussed things over with my fiance, parents and in-laws and we decided that we should start looking at other venues again, unfortunately it became apparent quickly that everything else in our price range has already been booked through to Jan of 2013.

I again contact the winery urging them for some information and explaining that if they did not come through I would have to cancel the wedding and postpone (save the dates have gone out and we have already booked our honeymoon). I was told that it was because people had been way for the summer as to why they had not received their permits yet but they were pretty sure that things would be all sorted out by December.

At this point I am beyond concerned, so my mom went to speak with the city of Richmond and this is what she was told:
1. They have submitted an application for renovations permits but for permits to put in a restaurant.
2. Because they are on agricultural land the application process is incredibly lengthy as they have to go before the council members and then get approval for construction separately (this can take up to 2 years)
3. They hadnt even submitted for the permits until May of this year (after our initial conversation).
4. And finally that the venue is not even licensed to accommodate large parties.

I feel totally duped. I have been lied to and strung along all this time. I will never recommend this venue and I urge you to pass it by and warn other brides that you know. I hope that no-one else is booked at this venue but if you are please know that your not alone.

Hi all!

We're planning to get married in Tofino in August of 2013. It will be a fairly economical affair-- we're looking to get married on Long Beach, and are going to have the ceremony at the Tofino Community Hall. We're set for a caterer as well.

I'm just basically looking for any advice or insight my fellow Knot-ties can offer on anything at all about getting married in Tofino, since we are planning the wedding from afar. Any suggestions for florists, decoration rentals, etc? Did you bring much in from any of the larger cities nearby, like Nanaimo? Where did your guests stay? Were hotels good about blocking off rooms in advance? Any recommendations for a good place to stay for those of us arriving in advance?

Thank you kindly!!

We originally were going to be getting married in a big ceremony in Alberta. but have recently decided to keep the wedding small, intimate and close to home. So I have a year an a half or so to plan this, on a budget, and am looking for some suggestions for ceremony location and venue location! Would be cool if it could be used for both lol I'm really hoping for outdoors somewhere for the ceremony and somewhere nice we can have a nice dinner with our family. Done. That's it lol And since we're still new to the area, we don't really know anywhere :( Any help ladies? Really not picky, making all my decorations and things myself(and family will be helping)! Thanks ladies!! Going to keep reading previous posts now ;)
