We'd like to try to stay within about a 30 minute drive from the Shelton area for the convenience of the photographer. Ideally, we're looking for a beach location that also has some grassy/park-like areas nearby. We'd also consider a scenic country setting, preferably by a body of water. Any thoughts? Someone recommended the Dolce property in Norwalk, but I haven't been there and I'm not sure what type of policies they might have as far as doing pics on their premises.

The secretary said that normally, the church requires a donation of over $1,000, but because we're having a smaller wedding, they will reduce the amount to $750. That still seems to be a bit high to me, but I'm not sure what is typical. We aren't able to get married at the church I attend because it is over an hour away from the reception site. Can anyone tell me if $750 is average, or if it's a bit high? We're really not sure how much we should expect to budget for this.

I know there's lots of support for both vendors and the reviews online are all fantastic, so I'll explain my thinking right now and I'd love your feedback.
I actually met with them both on the same day and I left Jane's meeting feeling a lot more excited and comfortable than Melissa's. It's not that I wasn't comfortable with Melissa and she had a ton of great ideas, just more so with Jane. Melissa's prices came in a few hundred $$ cheaper than Jane's (about $300). I know Jane would work with the budget, but I feel like Melissa's overall prices are cheaper.
What would you ladies suggest on how to go about choosing one of them!?! TIA

We weren't going to use a videographer but we decided at the last minute (2 months before the wedding) to book one. I am really surprised that we actually found a videographer who is available with 2 months notice, during peak wedding season! I asked DJ Melee if he had any receommendations and he referred me to a company called Arnold Alina Productions. We booked Arnold, just for a "raw footage" package...because we can't really afford the fancy editing. Although the editing is really cool, we are trying to keep the budget under control so we're just going to have Arnold cover the raw footage of our ceremony and the main events of the rececption. I figure raw footage is better than nothing!

Has anyone used him before? Since DJ Melee recommended him, I figured he must be pretty good, so we looked at a few samples of his work and then booked him pretty quickly. I'm curious to know if anyone else has worked with him?

For my own peace of mind, I booked a second trial with Dana Bartone, for both hair and makeup. After carrying on and on about how I liked what she did at the first trial, but I didn't feel like it was "the look" that I wanted...I just swallowed my pride and booked another trial. The receptionist at DB told me that people do it all the time, which made me feel like less of a brat. Phew! I had a total meltdown for nothing. Just had to get that off my chest :)

Im just curious as to how expensive your bridal alterations were for your wedding dress? Mine were $325 (through a bridal salon) for taking the dress in a little bit at the bust and doing the classic bustle (is that what it's called when the train is picked up off the floor and pinned to the back of the dress).
This does not include sewing any cups into my dress or a hem.
