Hi. Newly engaged. Just starting to plan. We want to keep it small (under 75 ppl...really, I'd love under 50 ppl but fiance's family is big.) We're not religious and are looking for an all-purpose venue...we want to do vows and reception in the same location. We're looking for affordable but also unique...so no receoption halls, country clubs...more like a beautiful library or gorgeous loft space.

Another requirement is accessibility. We have a few relatives that don't get around too well...so there can't be a lot of walking, no stairs, and plenty of places to sit are needed.

Oh, and we live in Fairfield County...(that might not make much difference.)
Thank you all for any ideas!

I am getting married at Woodwinds in June. Last year when we booked my mom, aunt, cousin (MOH) and I went to Cafe Allegre for lunch to taste the food. Cafe Allegre has the same owners and is a sister property to Woodwinds. My mom, FI, FI's mom, and I all went to the bridal show last year at Woodwinds and again tasted their food. I have heard nothing but great things and so far have experienced great things.

Tonight we used our complimentary dinner at Cafe Allegre for our Valentine's dinner since they don't do taste testings at Woodwinds. We were allowed 1 soup, 1 appetizer, 1 salad, 1 pasta, 2 entrees. We got all of that plus 2 glasses of wine, 1 glass of soda, and triple layer cake for $23. It was all delicious and so filling. I'm so happy with our choice.

Aside from the check of tasting our food, we also crossed of rehearsal dinner, and our hotel for the night of the wedding. FI's mom had already booked the RD but we got to see the space and we also got to take a look at the room where we will be staying the night of our wedding (the Inn is on the 2nd floor of Cafe Allegre). All in all it was a successful night! If anyone is considering Woodwinds, they have been phenomenal to work with and are very responsive and accomodating for the last year or so, and pricing includes soooooooooo much!!! I would highly recommend them.

Ok so I really wanted I'll be by Edwin McCain to be our first dance song but FI hates it. So I would like to walk down the aisle to it instead. The only problem I'm having is I can't seem to find a classical version of the song. I don't even know if it's possible to find. And I don't really like the regular instrumental version. There is a movie called a Cinderella story and when chad Michael Murray and Hillary duff first start dancing that song starts playing with just the violin and sounds soo pretty! So my question is does anyone know if I would be able to find just a classical version? Or is there someone inexpensive that could play it on the violin or something? I just don't want to spend a bunch of money on something that's only going to last a minute. Sorry if I'm babbling I just really want this to be my entrance song :)

Hi all!

I'm new to this site and have found so many helpful things! I am currently looking for a photographer and DJ that fit in my budget. I would like to have 2 shooters, but understand if the budget does not allow that. I also do not need an engagement session so I might be able to negotiate with that. I would like to spend no more than $1,000. I would like the DJ to be able to provide some ceremony music and keep the guests on the dance floor for the reception. A photo booth would be great, but it's probably not in my budget. I would like to spend no more than $1,000 on the DJ as well. I'm hoping there are companies out there that provide great work for the prices, but I realize this might not be possible. If you know of quotes around 1500, I'll take those too. The date I'm shooting for is August 8, 2012. Thanks in advance!

I was a guest at a wedding over the weekend, where FI was apart of the wedding party. The wedding was beautiful however my overall experience at the reception site was horrible!!

The reception was held at Maneeleys in South Windsor, CT. I don't normally write reviews after attending other people's events however I feel like I need to worn my knottie brides to be! STAY AWAY IF YOU CAN!

MANEELEYS REVIEW!!

**Customer Service=F-

If I could give this place a lower score I would!!! The bride and groom asked my friend and I to sit at the gift table during the reception (In my culture- its common for a trusted person or two to sit at the gift table throughout the reception. This is done to prevent theft also a list of names/phone numbers of the people who contributed is created for the bride and groom to make the whole process of mailing thank you cards/calling people after the ceremony easier). When the servers began to serve salad, bread, AND other appetizers we noticed that we were not getting served. My friend asked one of the servers if we were going to be provided with food. The server stated she was told by her manager not to serve us. We then asked to speak to the manager. The general manager (who was also the coordinator for the day) Sandy was extremely rude!!! When I asked her about getting served she shouted "If you want to get served you need to sit at a regular table! You know, I've had it up to here (at this point she raised her right hand over head) with this wedding!! This wedding was supposed to be for 200 people yet we are trying to accomodate more than !!.." At this point the guests (including my pastor, church friends ect) at the reception were just in disbelief with her tone of voice and demeanor. I then replied "please do not talk to me like that, if you have any problem you can take it to the bride and groom whom instructed me to sit here" She then shouted"I will talk to you like this at this point I have had it... who told you to sit here?! who told you to sit here?!" My friend approached me and asked me what was going on, I started to explain the story to my friend and Sandy physically came in between my friend and I while we were talking and began to explain her side of the story to my friend by shouting. At this point I walked away.

Prior to my encounter with Sandy, unbeknownst to me, there was a problem with the seating arrangements. More people arrived to the reception site than the bride and groom expected!! (A BRIDE AND GROOMS WORST NIGHTMARE) The best man and some of the groomsmen tried to solve this situation without letting the bride and groom know by paying for the extra (2) tables and chair set up.. SANDY, yelled at the groomsmen and bestman and told them that they were not willing to put out extra tables and chairs because they have to pay for them! Instead of Sandy taking her to the back she went as far as sticking out her hand and saying you have to pay me now! This was all unfolded in the middle of the dance floor!! (During this time, it was 1hr into recepion the bride and groom were outside stressing about their missing DJ and MC)!

Food= C

The bride and groom chose to have a buffet, which is a good way to save money however, the food was horrible!!! Nobody went for additional food!! The potatoes were overseasoned and very salty! The beef was very rubbery, the vegetables were very good (which is why I gave them a C and not an F in this area). I also gave them a "C" in this area because one of the servers (Katie) was very nice to my friend and I after witnessing the blow out between Sandy and I. She served my friend and I even though Sandy instructed her not to! (my heart goes out to the servers because if Sandy feels like she can talk to guests the way she did, then I can only imagine how she speaks to her staff!!!)! The kid's had macarroni and cheese which appeared very watery, along with chicken tenders which was cold.

My heart goes out to the bride and groom because this was their special day! There were many things that went wrong that day however none that was topped by Sandy's outburst to the guests!! If Sandy would've kept her composure, she would have been able to save the bride and grooms big day!

BEWARE OF MANEELEY'S KNOTTIES!!! Knotties if you are looking for staff, at a reception site, that will provide you with support, remain calm and willing to work with you to make your special day the best then look ELSEWHERE!! If you would like a place that will give you and your guests stress!!! Look no more! You found the right place because Maneeley's will give you an extra pound of stress on your big day!

Hi All,

We're recently engaged and starting to thinking about venues for a late summer 2013 wedding. So far we're having a bit of a hard time coming up with places. We need a place that is up to $110 a head (including tip/tax) and fits at least 200, but preferably up to 230. Obviously we'd rather be under $110 a head for a Saturday night (with tax and tip) but are having a really hard time finding a place! We want something that isn't your typical ballroom - we both are a bit more nature minded so we'd like something with lots of windows and lights in a nice setting. So far we've looked at the Pond House (too small), Riverview (too $$), the Simsbury Inn (pretty dark), and we're looking at Tunxis Pavillion in Farmington this upcoming weekend. We're also thinking about looking at La Cupola Ristorante & Inn in Litchfield and Mystic Seaport.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi ladies! I'd like some opinions on my BM gifts. Do you think this is enough? I know every bride is different and everyone has a different budget, but I just wanted to get a general consensus.

I am getting each of my 6 bridesmaids a customized tote bag/beach bag with their first initial on it (I'm getting each bag in a different color scheme, to match each girl's favorite colors...) Inside the tote I am putting a pair of simple stud earrings from Macy's (not diamonds!) - I'm going to tell them that they don't have to wear the earrings to the wedding, I just figured all 6 of them would like a nice pair of simple earrings. And I am also giving them a small sterling jewelry tray that is engraved with "Live, Love, Laugh" (it's like one of those "catch all" trays that you put on your dresser or bathroom coutner, to throw your jewelry in). It's made by Mariposa which is a company that makes really nice silver stuff (I actually registered for some of their silver).

As an extra gift for my 2 maids of honor (my sisters) I'm going to give them each a swarovski crystal purse hook. I just think purse hooks are cool :) And who doesn't love swarovski?!

Does this sound like a generous enough gift, without going overboard?

Planning a wedding without you ladies would have been so much more difficult. Thanks to all of you I got some great vendors and my venue. I'm just so excited that things are coming together and becoming more real, so I really couldn't go on without saying Thank You to all the CT Knotties!!! :)
