Open House/Bridal Gown Extravaganza this sunday

Hey ladies...My DOC is having an open house at her venue this Sunday (June 13) from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. and I thought I would spread the word to anyone interested in attending.

If you are someone who has yet to find a venue, you really should check this venue out. It is in the historic district of downtown Orlando and is simply GORGEOUS!

Location: The Summerlin House

Date: June 13

Time: 12 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Details: The Summerlin House is having an open house with food music, and tons of fun! Savannah Grace Bridal will have tons of wedding gowns there to shop from, all priced at $100 (some of these dresses retail for up to $2000). There also will be a drawing and one lucky bride will receive the venue fee for The Summerlin House free (value 2,300).

Two more things checked off the list! We sent out our Save the Dates over the weekend and last night I booked Michael Anthony Cakes for our cake. I am super excited about the design we came up with and his cakes tasted amazing!

Bridal Salons

Typically I post on the WC FL board but for this, I'm willing to travel up towards Orlando.. I'm looking for Bridal Salon recommendations that are plus size friendly. I don't want to be looked down upon for my size while trying to find a dress. I had that happen to a friend back home and it ruined her experience.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! :)

FI and I got in town yesterday and we went and got our marriage license this morning. We went to the WP location and got there at 7:45. We were the first in line and had no problem getting it done quickly!!! There were a bunch of people there getting their license and their was even one couple getting married! It was so cute! If you did marriage counseling and want to get the $30 off make sure you have your priest write a letter and bring it with you- the couple next to us forgot theirs and had to try to go to the church to get a copy.

My dad emailed me to ask me what cruise line we were going on and the stateroom number for the HM....knowing dad, I'm assuming he wants to surprise us with a bottle of wine or flowers or a nice note, etc. which is sweet. Not to sound like a 13 year old girl, but FI is a little grossed out though (and I sort of am too)...we really don't want any reminders of dear old dad on our honeymoon haha. We are actually turning our phones off that week and only checking messages for emergencies only so we def. wanna not think about anything but each other that week.

Dad also tried to give us his timeshare to use on the HM a few months ago, which freaked FI out so we booked a cruise. I dunno if it's weird or not that my dad wants to be so involved in the HM...like I said it's sweet, I don't really care and I'm grateful for him thinking of us. But I dunno...creepy or not?

Also, what's the creepiest things someone has given/said/done during all this planning?

Michael Jackson Flash Mob Dance.... Want to be in it?

I saw this on the internet and I'm going if anyone else is interested. There will be a flash mob dance on June 25th at Church Street Station around 5 PM. There is a rehearsal for it tomorrow night from 7:30-9:30 and I think a few more at the same time on Wed and Thurs as well. The rehearsal is at the Summerset Homeowner's Association in Orlando. If you ask, I'll private message you the rehearsal address. The phone number to call for info is 407-760-9929 and ask for Christina. It is going to be a publicity event for Ronald Mc Donald House Charities and they are filming it for that purpose. ANyone can come and learn the dance and you get different parts depending on your skill level.

I originally got a make up trial with traditional make up and I liked how it looked a lot but I did notice that the foundation and almost completely worn off by the end of the day. I decided maybe it would be best to get airbrush make up instead. I was going to go with Meghann Davis but then my hair person, Candi Eckstrom, told me she could get me someone for 60 bucks. She didn't say the person's name though. Megann Davis will be 150 with travel fees included.

Both of them offer trials for 45 dollars.

Would you go with Meghann Davis or the cheaper person for sixty bucks?

I don't know that I really want to get two trials.....

I'm looking for a gown around the $1,000 range. Can anyone recommend a place that has nice (budget) gowns but also professional service and alterations? I've been to Solutions which was awesome, but I'm not sure I can afford the gown I liked there. I'm considering David's b/c they are the 'standard' but I'd like to check out 1 or 2 more.

NWR - Recommend areas to live in CFL

DH and I will be relocating to Central Florida in Nov. I am from Tampa, but not too familiar with the Orlando area other than the Disney traffic. Can you recommend areas that you would want to live in or where to stay away from? I know Central FL is huge, but we don't have time to check out all the areas individually.

Any advice you can give would be a huge starting point for us. We don't have kids nor do we want to be in an area close to UCF with a lot of students. We both work in law enforcement and just want a nice quiet place to settle down. Thanks for any tips you can give!

A tasting only allowed AFTER you sign a contract????

I received a quote on food (which is on the pricey side) and I asked if we could set up a tasting.... to my suprise, I was informed that I had to sign a contract first before we could taste the food.......

I know of many caterers / venues that will set up a small tasting so you can see if you like the food and decide if you want them or not..........

Maybe it's just me but it just seems wrong........... If I am going to pay $75 a plate, shouldn't I get to taste the food first to see if we believe it's worth it or not?

What do you think?

just got an RSVP w/ an extra line written in saying "will try to attend" with check next to it. The guest is a family member from NEW YORK lol. I can just picture this guy the day of saying "Ya, I think I'll fly to Orlando today" haha. Mom said he's not coming and can't afford it, but he was just trying to be nice... If it's one thing I've learned while wedding planning, is that people are sooo interesting...!

Hello lovely brides!

I am in need of some encouragement or advice or possibly a stiff drink!

I think I've looked at every dress in Central FL and I'm completely torn..I've found a few that I really like but I'm not sure which is the one!

My mom is coming in town in two weeks to buy my dress and I'm feeling completely pressured!

I'm so terrified that I'm going to pick the wrong dress and I KNOW how much people judge every detail of a wedding, so I'm totally stressed.

I've been trying to get opinions from my bridesmaids and some family members and of course, everyone has a different opinion.

I'm just not sure what to do... any ideas? This part of planning is supposed to be fun and I'm dreading it instead of enjoying it..

Brevard Vendor reviews

I was a May 2010 knottie and wanted to give the brevard brides to be some vendor reviews...

Hilton Melbourne Beach Oceanfront: We had the ceremony and reception here...it was a great place and beautiful setting...no problems with hotel room block or anything else. Melinda is the catering manager and organizes everything for the weddings and she is just awesome! Highly recommend her and the Hilton!

Petals Florist: Linda was wonderful to work with...she takes passion in her work and that is very important. She worked with our budget and stuck with it. Just have to keep on top of them because they have a lot of work going on and can get kind of unorganized. But, the flowers were beautiful!

Dillon Video: Brian at Dillon video is a true professional. He made a high quality video for us with lots of great footage. We had our videos done onlly about 3 wks after the wedding! I highly reccommend getting a videographer for your wedding because you will miss out of so many small moments. It was great to relive it all over again with the video.

Elegant Imagery Photography: Everyone that has worked with EI knows how wonderful they are! Our main photographer for wedding and E-pics was "D" and he is a wonderful talent and puts you at ease when you work with him. Victoria is a great business woman and has become more of a friend than just a vendor. Because they are in such high demand and take pride in their work, we are waiting...patiently..for our photos. I have no doubt that we will be very happy with them. Our E-pics were more than I could have hoped for!

Hair: My hairdresser and good friend Gidget works at Mondi Salon in Orlando and she came all the way to Melbourne just to do our hair! She is very talented and if you need a hairdresser, look her up and tell her Rani sent you! ; )

Makeup: I did my own makeup...but went to Ulta and they did a bridal makeover for me so I could try out some new brands and play with colors. I love the brand Dermablend for foundation...it comes out very Matte and looks like airbrushed on camera. I have oily skin and it keeps me from getting shiny even after a night of dancing and sweating in that big dress!

Aurora Unique Bridal Boutique: This was where I bought my Maggie Sottero and my mom bought her dress. Cami is the shop owner and such a great person to work with as well. They work very hard to make sure you are happy with everything. I wouldn't go anywhere else in Brevard for a formal dress!

Anyone have any suggestions I can look into? The wedding party is relatively small but I'm sure some family that arrives that afternoon will want to join. We are having ceremony and reception on resort so it would be nice to get off property. Only drawback is that we will all be OOT guests in Orlando. Suggestions on a casual location would be great.
