I was confirming flowers w/ the florist the other day and I had to cancel a few orders because people who were supposed to get them (like grandparents and godmothers) aren't coming now. In fact, a good deal of people FI and I always expected to be there aren't coming, which is why I'm so sad. I was literally fighting back tears while on the phone...

First, FI's aunts and uncles were going to make a family reunion out of all of this but now that they couldn't get the rental house they all wanted, like no one is coming from his side it seems. It's sad because he already has less family that I did anyways so I know he must be bummed out. Plus a lot of favorite relatives that I had always pictured at my wedding growing up aren't coming for whatever reason. It just sucks when you look forward to seeing people that you haven't seen in years and now you can't. Plus, people you expected to be really happy and excited, haven't said jack to you about the engagement (which began a year ago!)

A friend who I thought I was close to just went from being sooo excited when she got her STD to now not coming with no explanation or notice. Her card just said "not attending" The only thing that has changed was that I told her (after she asked) that there wasn't room for her new BF. What is it w/ ppl needing a date to everything??? I've been invited to weddings where FI and I were dating for 5 years but weren't engaged or living together, so he didn't make the cut and neither one of us cared at all. Do ppl really get upset about this? I know ppl do but, honestly, I've stopped caring so I don't even want to hear it. Can't you be there for your friend on her big day w/o it being about you having a date? She would have had plenty of ppl she knows there too.

Two sets of grandparents can't be there because both grandpas are not in great health, which also makes me and FI heartbroken to have them miss. Family is big to us.

Mom has been complaining about how stressed out she is about the wedding, but literally has not done a thing to help planning wise. I've made every decision on my own (or w/ FI's help) so now when I asked mom to call her cousins who still haven't RSVPed, she tells me "I can't be stressed out about this"....It's like legit, the one thing I've asked her to do and she's complaining about it. First she complains to me that she's not involved enough, now she is too stressed to handle the one task I've actually given her.

I know no one is more excited about this wedding than I am so I don't expect much but w/ the people I love not there and other ppl's attitudes, it's totally taking the wind out of my sail. Anyone else feel this way during the planning? How did you deal?

Hey ladies! I said the one thing that's super important to me is to have my hair look nice on my wedding day. I have the crappiest hair EVER so it takes a special person to know how to deal with my frizzy, dry, thin, crazy mess of hair. lol I really would like extensions to make my hair look fuller & longer so I need someone who specializes in this. I also am not requiring or asking my girls to get their hair done so there's a possibility it might be only me getting my hair done & I know some places require a minimum. My cousin is doing everyone's make-up so it will only be hair. Any suggestions? I'd love to hear from any of you ladies who used extensions for your wedding, I definitely don't want it to look gimicky (like HOLY crap how'd her hair grow half a foot over night?!) or fake. Thanks!! :)

I went to try on my dress for what was supposed to be my final fitting last week but since I lost a bit of weight, there is less to hold the dress up and now its' too long... I'm really trying to get in shape for being in a bathing suit on our HM/cruise, not so much for the actualy wedding. But now I'm afraid that if I lose any more, my dress wont' be ready in time or will still be too long. But now that I don't hate running and exercising (it's taken 23 years to get to that point lol) I don't want to stop. How do I balance the two now? Give myself a little more freedom on the diet? Work out less? How much freedom is too much freedom? I don't want to gain it all back either...Anyone who is a health expert...your advice would be appreciated! TIA!

so my FI and I haven't set a date yet and were starting to think spring 2012 would be when we got married. My FI is going to be working for the state department as a foreign service officer in an embassy. He just passed his clearance and should be called for a either the september or october class. He just informed me last night that he would get his first post a year after he starts meaning fall of 2011. For me to move over seaswith him we have to be married and I also don't want to plan an orlando wedding abroad, it is hard enough in DC. Sadly I think things are already booking up for October of next year :(. I am just stressed and don't know what to do. I am the only one that knows how this wedding stuff books. He is just mr. positive oh it will all work out. My mom has to "adjust" to any plans we make, and my FMIL wants to go to everything to help me choose, which I love her but I am not her blood daughter I am her FDIL.

Our budget is a little over 10,000 and his parents are helping us. I just wondering if you ladies knew of venues that were still open for october of next year that would fit within my budget?

Thanks for any advice, this is just such a surprise I thought I would have more time to plan.

Just thought I'd update on some of the vendors we selected since I got ALL of the names from ladies here on the boards!

Caterer - Levan's! We went to a LOT of catering appointments & they had the BEST food hands down. I also loved how they didn't make us jump through hoops or set up useless appointments for a tasting. Our first visit doubled as our tasting & they pulled out all the stops for us. They even came down significantly on price so they fit well within our budget. WIN!

Photography - We chose Jessica Leigh for our photography. We love her photos and her prices were phenomenal!

Videography - We are using Fuel Videography. Mike & Mike were great! They invited us into their home to look at some of their wedding videos and we ended up staying for over 2 hours! (not all wedding related... Mike Sr. & FI started talking work stuff, lol) Needless to say we are thrilled with the choice & may never have heard about these guys without you ladies, so thanks!

Cake - Eve's Cakes. Evelyn's cakes were DELICIOUS & she assured us she could do just about anything we asked. Honestly she is the one vendor I didn't shop around too much with... she had the most reasonable prices & her cake was great. mlharbis I can't wait to hear how your cake turns out!!

BM Dresses - Ordered online from David's Bridal. We went through 2 sets of dresses for the girls from Ross & none of them were quite right (& it was exhausting trying to find something that looked good in everyone's sizes!) so I opted for the more traditional route & ordered them. I was a little bummed because they ran out of all of my girls sizes in clover so I am putting two girls in canary & 2 in clover which I'm sure will still look nice. I was glad I ordered them the minute I did because I got the two last sizes I needed that they had! You can see them here.

Phew... think that's it! We've been busy busy busy trying to get all of vendors secured. I think we're well on our way. :)

I don't mean here on the board I mean in general.
I've had multiple friends ask me for advice about their weddings. I've given them numerous resources, numerous ideas, numerous links, numerous ...well just lots of stuff...and they've all done almost literally the exact opoosite of what I suggested.
I do not understand how someone says they are "on a tight budget" and I give them great vendor suggestions and other ideas on saving money and then they turn around and end up spending 3-4 times what they need to and get HALF what they coudl have!
I'm about over it at this point!!!
I'm sorry I had to vent.
Thanks.

I bought a beautiful Galina Gown from David's Bridals online. It is a georgous halter gown and I can send pictures. The tag is still on and says 800.00. It is a size 10, but was at least two sizes two small for me. I would say this would fit a size 7. I want someone to have it and love it as much as I did.
Why am I selling? Happy with size 10 body, and we have decided to do a semi-formal wedding. I am going tea length. I am asking 200.00 for it which is 199.00 less than the sale price.
Thanks.

Hi everyone! I am new to TheKnot...just got engaged about 1 week ago (YAYYY!), and we are trying to set up a date. I am curious to know what you all think about an outdoor early April wedding in Orlando. We were thinking sometime in May, but after going to an outdoor baby shower yesterday, I felt like I was melting from the heat!

Thanks ladies!

Hey ladies,

I have a quick question...

We are doing a sand ceremony at the wedding but wanted to incorporate our parents (the same way you would for the lighting of the unity candle). Would it be tacky if we got 2 teeny vases and filled them with sand (mine orange, FI's green) and had our mothers pour some of that sand into out vases that we would pour into the big vase together? (i hope i didnt lost anyone). I think that way they still get to go up and pour, and it will represent each of us as individuals that came from loving families, and we can still have the pastor pour in the white sand at the bottom to represent God as our foundation...anywho, let me know what you think!

TIA!

Am I supposed to meet with them again to finalize everything or am I just supposed to send them a check and when its due and just go by what the contract says? I want to at least e-mail all of them (and meet in person with the florist and the caterer) but is it being annoying?

How many times from between the booking and your wedding did you talk to the vendor, even if you weren't changing your mind about anything?

Hello ladies! I have a question that is more on the personal side, so if you are a male, I recommend not reading any further ;)
I don't know if it is just me (doubt it!), but I have often wondered how to go about deciding on a wedding date around the lovely "aunt flow" (who is NOT invited to the wedding, btw!). Besides being on birth control, does anyone know something that I may not know to solve this problem?!

Thanks!!! :)
