Hello,

I am considering the LMEC for my wedding next year and they have a list of 8 preferred caterers: Arthur’s Creative Events & Catering, Big City Catering, Classic Creations Catering, Cuisiniers Catered Cuisine & Events, John Michael Weddings & Special Events, Levan’s Catering, Puff’n Stuff Events Catering, River City Catering. I really don't want to have to meet with all 8 and I am looking for some advice on narrowing down this list to maybe 3. Is that a good number to start with or should I meet with all and compare?

I would be looking for the caterer to provide: food, beverage, alcohol, linens (maybe), dinnerware, glassware, etc) for the reception. I have a 75 guest estimate. Minus the LMEC $2800 site fee, my remaining budget for catering/rentals is about $3650 which would be about $48pp total including tax, service charges and gratuity. I know thats probably not much - :( weddings are so expensive and this budget stuff is so frustrating - ok that was my little vent for now. I might be able to stretch that budget up a bit to $4000-$4500 but if I can stay under $4000 that would be ideal.

I know many of you on here have used these caterers before and I have read some of the posts on some of them. I am wondering if you could please provide some advice on narrowing down the list based on your experience with them - best value for my budget. I'm not a real fancy person so I just need good food and service to be happy with the caterer. Hopefully you guys can help.

Thanks

So today my dad surprised me by saying we are getting a full bar. This caught me off guard because dad was completely against us having alcohol at all at the wedding because he didn't want it to turn into a drunken frat party, so we compromised on beer and wine only. But now he's had a change of heart and we're having liquor too!

Problem is, I have one groomsmen who has already apologized in advance for getting wasted at the reception. We told him that he can drink as much as he wants, but asked that he be at least under control enough to not be completely obvious. He is extremely loud when sober so adding alcohol is not a pretty thing. He still just says "ya, that's not going to happen, it's' your wedding, i'm going to get smashed!" I'm glad he wants to celebrate but we've explained the situation w/ my dad to him and it's not really registering. I don't want my dad to be super pissed about agreeing to spring for a full bar because of my friends- esp. since he already thinks all the young ppl will be out of control. Suggestions?

Thoughts and Opinions are needed!!
So, my wedding is at The Ballroom at Church Street, and we are staying the night at the Grand Bohemian for the wedding night. I don't want to walk back to the hotel after the reception is over, but i think it is absolutley CRAZY to spend money on a limo to take us two blocks to the hotel.
My mom thought of the option for one of those bicylcle pedi-cabs to pick us up and have it be decorated to say "Just Married". It would prob be affordable and different. But is this cheesy in any way?
Any other suggestions that you guys can think of? I also thought of renting a classic car for the night, but i don't want either of us to drive either, especially after drinking all night at the wedding. Help is sooooo appreciated!

So, I'm getting married in February 2011 (exactly 10 months away today!) and also starting law school in August. The law school application, LSAT-taking, and accept/reject process has been 2 years long. We're also moving to Chicago for me to start law school at the end of July with a slight possibllity that my FI and I will have to be apart from each other until he finds a job in Chicago (we've done long-distance before).

My plan was to have nearly everything done for the wedding before school officially starts. I work around 50+ hours a week now as it is, and I don't get weekends off. EVER. I've managed to get my ceremony site, reception site, photographer, officiant, make-up, hair and flowers booked. On top of that, my bridesmaids dresses are picked out, and suits for the guys are picked out.

I'm also DIY-ing our wedding invitations (which are half-done right now), and have already purchased bridesmaids gifts, groomsmen gifts and parents' gifts as well as details for the wedding like votive candles for the tables. My MOH is planning my bachelorette for the month before I move, and my mom is planning my bridal shower for around that time as well.

All that's left really is to buy my dress, linens and our wedding bands. We're not taking our honeymoon right away because I'll be in the middle of law school when we get married.

Anyway, I just wanted to post this for all the brides that feel overwhelmed sometimes with wedding planning. Instead of buying things we don't need we've saved all our money for law school and the wedding. It can get financially overwhelming sometimes but saving has helped immensely. We don't even have cable!! haha. I'm just an organized freak...lol

Just take it one day at a time :) Anything is possible!

Has anyone ever taken dance lessons through "Keeping Winter Park Beautiful"? They're led by Stuart Nichols and I'm thinking about going. Here's the brochure if anyone else is interested:

http://www.kwpb.org/attachments/DanceDates.pdf

We will probably take some more serious lessons later on but I would like to introduce FI to the whole concept in a more laid back group setting before I force him to shell out some cash for private lessons. This is only $80 for an 8-week session and I think if I can get him there he will actually really enjoy it and want more. Also, I have this fantasy where we learn how to ballroom dance really well, like not just for the wedding but for real, so that one day we can be that adorable old couple with super sweet dance skills that everyone looks at and says 'awww, look how cute! i wanna be like them when I'm old!' FI always says I plan too far in advance ... maybe he's got a point. Haha.
