Has anyone used Paulina Perez for hair and makeup? I've read all the glowing reviews, but was not impressed by the boarderline unprofessional emailsI've reveived when inquiring about their services. They sent me a long list of questions, sales pitches (for other services), and rewrote the prices like four times in the initial email. I answered the questions and sent them back (thinking it would help with pricing), and I received an email that said "Sorry! You sen tthe email but did not fill out the contract". They completely disregarded my comments (that I purposfully made a different text color)!! They just seem a little pushy and unorganized- definitely NOT what I want to deal with on top of planning other aspects of my wedding!! Has anyone else experienced a similar situation?

New to the North Florida Board?

Welcome! If this is your first time on the board, please read at least the first couple of pages of posts to see if your question has already been answered, then introduce yourself in a new thread and ask away.

Location tip: North Florida is a big area including the First Coast (Jax, St Aug), north central (Gainesville), and the Panhandle (Tally, Pensacola). So, if you have questions about wedding and reception locations or vendors, please be sure to note your location--it makes a big difference!

Sounds outrageous, but it has been done before and will be again, so be careful.

Vendors: Tips on vendors and vendor reviews after your wedding are welcome and encouraged. However, if you work in a wedding-related field (photographers, caterers, planners, etc.), while you may post here as a bride, you may not mention your occupation in any threads or advertise in any other way. This is not permitted under the Knot terms of service. We are all brides or former brides here and we want to keep the playing field equal.

Bios: Everyone likes to check out others' ideas and plans. Be sure and update your Knot profile by clicking on your username, and if you want to create an even more elaborate bio, check out Google sites or Weebly. But if you use pictures from another Knottie's bio, give credit where credit is due.

TV-Free Surfing: While the Knot prefers that you leave your Knot TV up, if you're trying to surf discretely, you might not want it on. So to surf the boards with no TV, simply go to the top of the board where it says Community > Local Boards > Florida-North Florida. Right click on North Florida, choose Open in a New Tab, and that should open the board with no TV. Bookmark it for frequent use.

Finally discovered exactly what kind of dress I want, but prefer not to risk money and possible heartache by trying to order and it turning out badly, so was going to see about showing a dressmaker what I want, and seeing if it can be done. I have tried Yellowpages for dressmakers, but the search is very limited. Has anyone had a dress made here in Jax? Any recommendations? Thank you in advance :)

Addressing Invitations - No Inner Envelope

Our wedding invitations consist of the actual invite, a response postcard and a sleeve envelope. They are really cute! My question is, if I am inviting a friend, do I address the actual outer envelope to Ms. Jane Doe and Guest, since there is no inner envelope? I am worried that if I just address the invite to Ms. Jane Doe that it implies she can't bring a guest?!?

Dress: Dazzling Prom and Bridal in Bonifay, FL... HUGE selection of gowns but try to avoid shopping here during the prom season. The owners are real nice :)

DJ: Affordable DJ (Doug Maynards), he was awesome, I just gave him a few ideas and genres and he hit the nail on the head... was only $300 for 3 hours and he was awesome!

Ceremony music: Bagpipes! Mark Lowe (bagpipermark@yahoo.com) Was soooo talented and the pipes set the ceremony off perfectly!

Cake: was supposed to be done by Adonna's Bakery... our tasting went great and because we occasionally go to church together, she cut us a great deal. At the tasting, we were told to pay the balance at 2 weeks before the day. Well, 2-3 weeks prior, we called and drove up there to all 3 locations to try and meet her to pay(at least twice) and then... 10 days before my wedding, she finally calls me back to tell me that because she had not heard from me, she had booked up and would not do my cake. She said that we did not make a deposit so we had no leg to stand on. Some friend. We went to our tasting with the money for a deposit but after being told that it was not necessary (since we know each other), we thought nothing of it. I'm chalking it up to miscomunication and a lesson learned but to me, it was just bad business and I do not recomend them.

Luckily, a saint that we go to church with (who also prepared all the food) arranged for us to have a beautiful and delicious cake made by a personal friend of hers

The Boys: their stuff came from Men's wearhouse, it was pretty standard, they had the colors we needed at a good price.

Flowers: McLeans Florist is Defuniak Springs... a little pricey but they were gorgeous, the ordering was smooth and delivery was right on time so I was satisfied.

I did my own nails and makeup and my sister did my hair. I ordered favors from oriental trading and made some of my own. I made a brooch bouquet for myself... pics soon to follow :) I hope this helped...

St. Augustine/South Jacksonville Venue?

New here, I originally wanted something outdoorsy/rustic, but an indoor reception. Everything I've found has been a little pricey (or so I've heard). I also want to do a bbq/burgers to cook ourselves. I suppose a state park would be best? What would you recommend? I liked picalata farms because it's about 10 minutes from me, but I heard it's no longer doing weddings? Just looking for a budget rustic venue where I can cook my own food!! Any help would be GREAT! :)

Bridal hair

Anybody have any suggestions for hair stylists? I need an onsite stylist for bridal hair as well as 5 ladies from my bridal party. I want my hair down as well.

Also if anyone has used Carolyn from Foiled Rotten, please let me know what you think of her. She quoted me $100 (including trial) and anywhere from $450-$500 for the bridal party.
