We are on the hunt for the perfect sandy beach with palm trees and some privacy to get married on! We are currently looking at Pierre's, Cheeca Lodge, The Islander and Coconut Cove. Any experiences with these? Any ideas to add? We are really hoping for a little privacy and a gorgeous surrounding for photos. Thanks for any ideas!

I met with my deacon last night. He said he advices every bride to hire a wedding planner. I'm usually the one that has planned every single party without a hitch, but I am worried that I'll miss something, especially when it comes to the actual ceremony.

I do not want someone to dictate everything for me. I'm pretty controlling, (I'm very nice, too, I promise..) and extremely picky for everything. I'm one of these crazies that will just do everything myself so that I won't be disappointed later.. :/

Sooooo....my question: knowing some of my history with event planning, all personal, of course and my being picky with everything, is a wedding planner really necessary?

(our venue covers all of the vendors, and things like that, so I don't have to contract anyone)

If I don't go with a wedding planner, what details are usually overlooked (especially during the ceremony) that I should keep in mind?

Thank you so much

Hello all!

My fiance and I are looking to get married in early August of next year. We have been looking all over Miami for a nondenomenational church to get married in - or a church that will marry nonmembers.

Our best option so far has been the Coral Gables Congregational church, which is beautiful but the latest we can get married is on a Sunday at 2. We were hoping for a Friday or Sunday night reception, which means we would need to find a way to entertain our guests for two hours between the ceremony at 2 and reception at 5. Especially because the reception site is about 15 minutes away.

We can get married there later but the price jumps from $1200 to $2000, which is out of our budget. And on Fridays you can ONLY get married at 7:30 PM for the $2000.

Does anyone have any recommendations on cute churches in Miami to get married, that will let us bring our own pastor? (Our church doesn't have a building, thus the need to look elsewhere.)

OR do you have any ideas for an inexpensive way to entertain our guests for 1.5 hours? We don't have many out of towners so a tour bus (suggested elsewhere) would be unnecessary and inexpensive. I'm checking to see if the church will let us have snacks on the lawn or something.

Nothing has been booked yet, so all options are possible! Thanks!

Where else did you go look?
If you could have it any other way, what would you have done differently?

So far I suggest one banquet hall and one restaurant.
Also, I am unsure as to whether I would like to have a couples shower or just women...
That will also determine on where it would be.
If it's just ladies, what do you guys think of a traditional bridal shower then after host a passion/langerie party for my close friends?

Thanks for your time ladies!
- Michelle

Sooo, sticky question, my mom (oh boy) decided that she would throw me a bridal shower. Ok, fine whatever, I wasn't too keen on it, but she seemed excited and it got her off my back about being more involved in the wedding. Now, after she has spent a bit more than she intended (par for the course with her) she wants my bridesmaids to chip in something. Bridesmaids who are all either in grad school or just finished and not yet employed... aka, little to no $$ to spare. I want them to be able to use that money towards their other wedding expenses, such as hair, make-up, shoes, hotel room, etc. I don't want to ask them, because I don't want them to feel guilty like they need to contribute. They didn't help plan the shower, they are not acting as hosts, I think that means they shouldn't have to 'chip in' anything. Period. What is a nice way to tell my mom to get her head out of her a$$ and stop acting like the world revolves around her? My girls don't have extra cash to spare, and they're all super sweet and will feel like they have to put something in if I ask them. A couple offered to come early to help prep stuff and set up, which is so awesome of them, and I don't want them or my mom to think that means they need to put money towards anything for the shower. They did not help in planning anything, and my mom (according to the shower invites) is the host, not them. Help!

Way before we even had our ceremony and receptions venues, I already knew how I wanted our invites to look like. I wanted the invites to look delicate, simple but beautiful at the same time. Also, I didn't want to spend so much money on them especially knowing the majority would be thrown away.

FI and I had planned to sit down on the computer and type all the wording up and then format it. However, FI knew they would more than likely be off and not look professional at all, lol. Thanks to one of FI's GMs....we have beautiful invitations, rsvp cards, and wedding inserts. He's a graphic artist and he made our invites look even better than I would have imagined or produced myself. He had so many options for fonts and even helped us improve our invite wording. Also, he saved me from stressing out on getting them done correctly and even printed them out for me which is not an easy task with thick, pre-cut paper.

I HIGHLY recommend him for all sorts of paper invites or goods needed. He does excellent work and super easy to work with him! I can forward his information if anyone is interested :)

Here is the inspiration:

Here is our DIY lace invite! These pictures do not to them any justice because they look really beautiful in person. Sorry for the poor lighting. We decided not to add a bow like the original because of the lovely gold detail the lace already has and it would be way too much.
