Buffet or Sit-down Dinner or Family Style???

So, I want a family style dinner. i think that buffets can get too crowded and Sit downs take too long. And since it looks like we are going to have the wedding/reception at my grandparents property, I would prefer to keep the congestion to a minimum.

We want the tables set up like harvest tables and I thought family style would be ideal (PS - we will have a caterer). My mom dreads this idea. She wants a sit down dinner. My father wants a buffet ("because I can get as much food as I want".)

What are your thoughts? I would love to find a way to talk my mom into it.

After being engaged for over 2 years my FI and I have finally set a date. 12/1/12. It is far off, however, I want to start some planning now, and I am struggling with an idea. Please offer your honest opinions (I'm not easily offended). I am originally from New England and have always wanted a "winter wonderland" themed wedding. Now that I am here in FL, I am afraid that it would be odd, after all there is no snow, and what if on my wedding day it's 80 degrees? My other idea was red and gold colors with a Christmas-ish theme (my favorite holiday), but FI isn't crazy about that idea. What do you ladies think? TIA!!

Event coordinator!! I never thought I would have one to be honest with you, but the very moment Julie from Chic Designs & Fabulous Events responded to my email I knew I wouldn't be able to do this without her help! She's got awesome ideas, connections, and a great collection of her own decor. She's the most responsive person I've EVER met (not just vendors). You can tell she is going to have your back and wont let anyone ruin your big day. I'm so excited to have her on board. I know she is going to make this a much more pleasant experience for me. I was very close to strangling my FI. Now I can relax! phew

Photography prices

Hello girls, we're planning from GA and getting married on Lido beach resort and searching through photographers. Last week we were in Sarasota to meet with variety of vendors, and we met with 3 photographers. I'm not sure how much should i expect to pay in Florida for a wedding photographer, but prices were quiet different for all three. For 8 hour day with an album, 2 photographers and engagement session we've got quotes from $3,600 the cheapest and $5,985.00 the highest.

The 2 higher packages included wallet size prints or big wall framed print and parent album. I don't really need prints, and just DVD will work for us. Two photographers didn't really want to remove the "extras" from the package, so i don't know. What are you girls paying for 8 hours/DVD/2nd/and an album??

Thank you for any help, i need to get back to these guys and book one of them LOL.

Picked Up My Dress!!!!!

Good Morning Ladies!

Last night my sister and I went to David's and picked up my dress. It was beautiful and fit perfectly! Just some minor alterations to be done. However, the veil was a disaster! The veil that I really wanted did not come in ivory so they sent the white one to get dyed ivory. When we took it out of the bag, it wasn't ivroy...it was yellow! The lace details were yellow and there were globs of yellow dye caught in the netting! Even the sales girls said I could not wear this! The problem then was that the white veil was too much of a difference to my dress which is a soft white...almost in between white and ivory. So the idea then was to pick out a new veil. Luckily they had gotten some new ones in the other day and we found one that I love even more than my original and it was at the same price! The lace detail in the veil almost exactly matches the detail in my dress! It's perfect and in ivory! I'm so happy! I have to admit I am proud of myself for not freaking out about the veil. I remained very calm. Even my sister was surprised I didn't stress out more over it! :)

Spent the day buying stuff off Etsy! Love it!

I choose these different necklaces and earings for my two bridesmaids. I wanted something fun, and kinda beachy but something they could wear again.

The seller was willing to work with me on the earings, which was great!!!! I LOVE THEM!

Then I ordered a custom wooden family sign, that we will use at the reception and be able to use in our home! The picture below is an example of what I ordered, except different names, date, and i asked her to add a celtic knot corner to honor our Irish heritage. Again, seller was awesome to work with!!

I also am working with a seller on designer a personalized cornhole game. One will be Villanova colors (my alma mater) and one will be West Point (his alma mater). Im doing this as a bit of a surprise for him. Since our reception is on the beach, I thought this could be a fun cocktail hour game!

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here on the knot :)

My FI and I just set the date to get married at the Sandbar Restaurant on AMI December 10, 2011. My gpa lives on the island and I have been coming to the island for 25 years so I know the island pretty well. My problem is that I live in Jacksonville and all of my family lives in Ohio so all planning is on me.

Everyone has been giving me vendor lists but I have no idea who is good. Has anyone gotten married lately and have suggestions for DJ, florists, wedding coordinator, etc?

Also has anyone had success with hotels giving a block discount? We are having between 75-100 people all coming from out of town and so far the hotels aren't working with me.

I understand the importance of hiring one...you don't have to convice me of that. I"m just trying to figure out pricing. What did you pay? What type of service did you getZ? Recommendations of companies? While I am very budget concious (sp?), I don't want to hire the cheape just b/c they are the cheapest.

Sent out the first batch of invites and already got some back, this might sound weird but I’m Hispanic and my family is huge… We sent out the first batch to all family and must have friends and since most of my side of the family are OOT I’m hoping that they won’t be able to make it… I know this sounds weird but I kept getting put in really uncomfortable situations because we sent one cousin an STD but her sister didn’t get one (this happened a lot)… this was super frustrating so we sent out invites semi early (my weddings not till Feb) and if we don’t get any word back b4 the 14^th then I’ll have my mom call and deal w/ them

lol though my husband and I have been married two months now, we are getting married for a second time in a few weeks! We were married outside by a catholic ordained priest and to be recongized by our church as married we need to have a ceremony in the church :o) It will just be my parents and siblings there.... then we are having lunch at the Ritz-Carlton where we had our original wedding in October!

I am already booked for the South Pavilion at the BeachHouse. I would love to hear anyone's reviews/opinions from their event or their plans-to-be. Details would be the best! Did you have any issues? Did you do centerpieces, favors, decorate for the ceremony or reception? If yes, was it stressful squeezing that in beforehand? Did you have music at the ceremony, how'd the DJ get the speakers to the beach? Is there a dance floor? Any suggestions/ideas that turned out great?
