It's time for me to have my dress altered and I've seen recommendations on the board for people in Atlanta, but does any have recommendations for the Athens area? It's a far drive for me to make to the Atlanta area and it would be nice to have it done locally. I got my dress at David's Bridal but I did not have a good experience and will not go back.

Do you have a wedding planning nay sayer? Someone that always has something less than positive to say about your plans?

Mine is kind of my mother. She is super supportive and I enjoy doing wedding stuff with her, but sometimes she can be so irritating. The first thing was my shoes, I said that I wanted blue shoes and her response was "No!...Uh, I mean, do you think that's the best idea?" Basically I want a nice fun wedding but she's got some grand formal affair in mind. Most recently, I showed her a mock up of a wedding invitation that I made up on my Cuttlebug and she looks and says "Oh, we can use that for a shower invitation or something but it's not really formal enough for a wedding."

My friend of about 12 years just broke up with her boyfriend of 4 years last night. About 6 months ago they moved into an apartment together - on their own paying their own bills for the first time - and obviously the stress of it just took it's toll. I feel so bad for her because they can't afford to cancel their lease right now, so they're going to have to live together in that one bedroom apartment for a few more months before they go their separate ways! I couldn't imagine having to live that way!! She's at work pretty late tonight and she's got the day off tomorrow, so we'll hang out then, but I really wish she would come spend the night at my place. She said that there wasn't any huge nasty fight or anything, but I can still imagine it would be nice to not be there for a few days.
Now I am kind of reconsidering my decision to exclude her from the bridal party. Sure, breaking up with her boyfriend won't get rid of any of the annoying traits that helped me make that decision but I just feel so bad for her! I don't know if being asked to be a bridesmaid would make her feel any better or not, or if it's even a good idea at all.

All I do know right now is that I'm going to be spending a good part of my day cheering her up - RETAIL THERAPY! lol

I added them to the list with no problem, because afterall, they are having us a shower!

With less than 4 months to go til the wedding, my FMIL called me to organize dates, but all these people that are having us showers are now having us parties or teas instead (ie. no gifts). I don't mean to be snooty, but one of these parties is happening less than a month before the wedding...doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?

A little background on the situation...
SO...I have my MOH & 2 BM's....as of now...
I have absolutely no probs w. my MOH except she lives in FL, but she's awesome and helping me in anyways she can & we're gonna work out the dress shopping somehow, shes my best friend, we're practically twins.

My issue is with one of my BM's,..that is my cousin! A couple of weeks ago (the first w/end of the year) I went to pick out my dress. So I was trying to see who would go with me because on the first dress shopping trip I had my mom, FMIL & my other BM-Carla-. So on this trip, my FMIL couldn't go, she was expecting company to arrive that day & Carla couldn't go because she had to get her son back from his dad (it was a Sunday). So I asked my cousin to go (as a cousin, but also as a BM) & she said yes... asked her on Friday...& the next day she and her boyfriend came over to eat & she was asking me where we were going..so I told her. It was going to be about a 30 min -maybe longer- drive...then she proceeded to comment "oh I didn't know we had to go that far, if I would have known that I would have said no", which isn't really surprising to me to hear her say. Then Sunday comes and I get a text..."I really don't want to go all the way down there just to watch you try on dresses" (or something to that effect) & so I texted back asking if she was going to back out of EVERY wedding related thing just because she doesn't feel like it, what about when we go to look at BM dresses?...to which she answered "well that will be different I'll HAVE to go them"...
Cut to now..& we haven't talked much because I have a habit of holding grudges, but this is a little different...It gets under my skin SO bad! I mean BM's are there to help & support, RIGHT?! So when a BM blows you off it kind of hurts, & it's worse when it's FAMILY.
What gets me is that she complains about how her dad is selfish & only cares about his (EX)wife & her kids, blah, blah blah ..-we had a rough yr last yr with him- & I was thinking about all of that a couple of weeks ago & thinking about him & the way he's acting towards our family..& thinking about her & the way she acts..ALL the time basically...& it dawned on me,...She's JUST like her dad. Super self centered, selfish. She doesn't really do anything for or with anyone unless it's beneficial to her.
SO she finally confronted me on FB a few minutes ago...apologizing...
BM:: "ok so i'm tired of this not talking thing! or these one word answers, i apologize for not going with you that day. no it didn't have anything to do with (boyfriend) so don't even mention his name it was all my doing on changing my mind and canceling going with you, i didn't realize it was something that important to you for me to go, if i would have know it was that serious i wouldn't have canceled but now i need to no if im still i bridesmaid or not before i decide to start saving money"
ME:: i know it had nothing to do with (boyfriend). it was all you being selfish. If i didn't want you to go I would not have invited you. DON'T YOU THINK?
BM:: well i kinda figured that, but i didn't realize it was that important and i didn't know you were actually gonna pick a dress that day i thought you were going to look.

I didn't answer her back. I'm trying to not lose it with her! I'm still upset about it to the point where I seriously want to lay into her about being so selfish and uncaring.
Should I still have her as a BM, knowing how unreliable/selfish she is. I mean, I picture scenes from Bridezilla where the bride is just going off on their BM's that are family...& I see that being us. Haha. Do I take that chance or what?! I mean I DO want to cause she's my closest cousin and all. But idk...I'm super confused & needed to vent/rant & get some opinions?

Has anyone else has this issue?
Any opinions?
SORRY SO LONG!!

Hi -- wondering if anyone who has gotten married in GA knows the procedure for finalizing the legality of your marriage after the ceremony. Our officiant is my brother, who got ordained online through the Universal Life Church. I've read on several message boards that people in other states haven't had a problem with the legality of this church (and according to GA laws, it should be fine). However, when I called the local court to ask what the steps were after the wedding took place, the person I spoke with was very cagey and kept "advising" me to have an actual preacher of a church perform the ceremony. We're really hoping my brother can do it, but obviously want the marriage at our ceremony to be legal.

So, has anyone gone through this process? Does he just need to return the license to the probate court and show proof of ordination? Any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Does Home Depot or Lowes have a wedding registry? I can't find much information about it online. If they do have a registry and you've used it, is it hard to use and will guests have trouble ordering gifts?

My fiance and I recently bought a foreclosed home and the previous owners took everything that wasn't bolted to the wall. We really need blinds, closet storage, bathroom rods, cabinets, etc. so registering at Home Depot/Lowes would be great!

Thanks!

I purchased my wedding gown, and wore it for my wedding. The store I purchased the dress from was out of state and told me when I went to get the dress cleaned not to let the dry cleaner put the dress in the machine, but to hand clean. The dress has alot of beading.

Has anyone found anyone who hand cleans bridal gowns? Or if not a place that is insured incase they ruin my dress. I live in Decatur, GA but willing to travel if someone can recommed a good cleanners.

One drycleaner said its a 90% chance the dress would be fine in the machine, but they were not insured and that made me nervouse. Has anyone else had this issue?

While we were snowed in, I posted a comment about all the cheesy t-shirts I ordered while sitting at home. I stumbled upon the CafePress website and lost my mind :-). I ordered one white tank top that reads "He Put a Ring On It;" one long sleeved t-shirt that reads "I love My Husband;" and one hoodie that reads "Bride to Be." Even with all the snow, it only took a week for me to receive my order. I LOVE my shirts. The material tends to run a little small, so I would order one size up. The hoodie is very light (more so for fall than cold, cold winters) BUT I still love them. They ranged in price from $20 - $30. I am looking forward to wearing them and will probably wear one to my bachelorette party. Just my two cents .... :-).
