Hi, all this wedding stuff is getting overwhelming. It's hard to know how much it's all going to cost. Some venues offer some amenities we want/don't want and we'll have to fill in the gaps with outside vendors, venue permitting. But once we sign with a vendor, we're sorta locked in and will have to hope we can fill in the gaps within our budget. In lieu, I would like to ask a 2 general questions that might ease my worries or point me in the right direction:

a) We're getting married in January and we expect 250 guests. The venue must be entirely indoors. We need a mix of American and Korean food catered. Is a budget of $25k reasonable? If not, where might we cut costs without sacrificing

b) Professional wedding planners are rumored to possibly save you money overall run through their vendor discounts. Is this reasonable or an exaggerated sales pitch? Could hiring a planner save me a headache without breaking my budget? How much wedding "fanciness" might I have to sacrifice if the planner costs cut too much into the budget?

I dont know what to do. Dh and i (yes were married, never had a wedding so doing it now) booked our ceremony and venue site and made a deposit. The lady who handles that said she couldnt get the contract together that day, to come back and see her when we spoke to the restraunt caterers. So we did that and she made up some excuse about her printer breaking last minute so shed email it to me! Well she emailed it to me and it was wrong, so we had to email her, when she didnt answer the eamil we called her and it was a pain getting her on the phone. Well we had her fix the contract and she emailed it back to me, we printed it and signed it and then i called her several times, no answer no call back and ive emailed her several times for an address to send the contract back, and i have yet to hear back from her. i dont know what to do, i dont really want to work with a venue who is going to be a pain in the rear to get in contact with. And not to mention their florist and caterer said they would email me prices and lists of things and i have yet to hear from them!! Should i switch venues? we did make a deposit for the venue but they havent gotten the contract back, you think i should switch and see about getting out deposit back?!
And not to mention she has emailed me 3 times since midnight trying to prove her point on her replying to emails. I emailed her back asking her why she felt the need to argue with a customer when the customer is always right. If she contuinues to email me arguing about her responding to emails i was going to have to contact her supervisor!
I just dont really know what to do. we love the venue but were starting to hate the lady!
I will NEVER use them again, and warn all couples to beware! We chose them because they were recommended on "the knot" and they were the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. Don't be a victim!

I did a lot of research when I was searching for vendors and it paid off - my wedding was great! I was trying to be "green," so you'll see that in some of my vendor choices. Thought I'd share:

Invitations: Sam Flax - I did a custom design and they were very simple. I wanted them printed on recycled paper, and they had plenty of choices that didn't look like they were made of twigs and oatmeal. We did have to do multiple proofs (some typos from them), but it worked out great and I was happy with the product and price. I bought the same card stock to do my own save the date post cards (designed myself in Word and printed at home) - I was happy with them too.

Venue: We did the ceremony and reception at Trees Atlanta (www.treesatlanta.org) - we were the first to do a wedding there and it was AWESOME. Joe is their events person and he was wonderful to work with. Our guests also thought it was a really cool venue and has a great set up for events (great indoor and outdoor spaces).

Caterer: Avalon Catering - the food was fantastic. Many people told us it was the best wedding food they had eaten. The shrimp and grits were a huge hit - people are still talking about them! The staff was great that night too - very professional and courteous.

Cake: Publix! I used the one at Toco Hills - though the decorator Kara actually works at another store now (she came back to do my cake). Everyone knows Publix cake is delicious, and this was another big winner - everyone said it was the tastiest wedding cake, including my mother in law, who declared it the best ever. ;o) I did a variation on one of their standard designs and added some gum paste flowers that they ordered. They delivered it and it looked beautiful. Note: we did have WAY too much cake. I was glad to take some home to freeze it for later, but we could have ordered much less.

Photographers: 35 Atlanta - we don't have the pictures yet, so this is an incomplete review...but Tyler and Lauren were great to work with and very professional. I can't wait to see the pictures!

DJ: Lou from Spectrum Entertainment - Lou did a great job. I wanted to dance, and he got everyone dancing! We enjoyed working with him - he has a ton of experience and he was very attentive to our needs and requests (like how much crowd interaction do we want, etc.).

Coordinator: Leah from The Whole Shebang provided day-of services and she was fantastic. I was completely confident in her and she had everything under control. People asked if she was a friend because she was so nice and not militant/bossy like some coordinators can be.

Flowers: Candler Park Flowers did our bouquets, bout's for the guys and corsages for the moms. They were beautiful and modern/simple - they looked chic. They are not far from Trees Atlanta (our venue), so it was easy to pick them up on the way to the wedding.

Dress: J.Crew - our wedding wasn't extremely formal, so their Gracie dress was perfect. I was comfortable and got lots of compliments. :O) I tried it on at the store at Lenox Mall first. I will note that I wasn't thrilled with the wedding person there - we were kept waiting for our appointment because the bride before us was running late, then when it was finally my turn (about 45 minutes late), she didn't actually help us - a regular sales person did. It turned out fine, but it was kind of irritating.

I'm doing all my planning myself, partly because I want to and also because I can't afford a planner, but I'd really like someone to be "in charge" on the day of besides myself and FI. Do they do this? I guess this is called coordinating? How much would it cost?

Maybe I could find a friend or acquaintance who needs money to do it as well, but I have no one in mind, and of course I really don't want a guest to do that. I want my guests to just enjoy themselves.

I'm just scared of being the one in charge and having to worry about details when I should be relaxing and enjoying myself.

I am not getting married in Atlanta, but it is my hometown and I am in the process of helping my uncle plan a reception for him and his wife over the Thanksgiving holiday...

Sooo, any venue recommendations you ladies have will be much obliged. He didn't give me a definitive budget, just said "nothing outrageous" but he would like catering, a DJ, drinks and photography.

This will be somewhat of a post-n-run as I just got to work, but I will try to check back in a bit.

Thanks! :-)

Jaxon was one of the best additions to our wedding. He took complete control of the this aspect of the wedding, which we paid him to do. He knew exactly what to do, when to do it and how to capture all of the magic moments. Our storybook is better than we anticipated. Jaxon got shots that were simply amazing. If we need any photography needs in the future there is no doubt who we are calling. Jaxon.
