I want to start off by letting you know that when I was at Costco they did not have the Hawaiian sodas or chips. Bummer! Sure hope they do when we are back there for our wedding.

We went to the deli and tried both cupcakes that they had that day, red velvet and carrot cake. They were both very tasty. They were decorated very simple and would look lovely for a wedding with an orchid placed on each one. If you get cupcakes from them, I think you will be happy with them.

Buying or Renting Chair Covers

Aloha!

I am having a challenge digesting the cost of renting chair covers. I have heard that some brides buy their chair covers and sell them afterwards. This sounds like a much more economical idea as at least you're not throwing your money away completely. However, I reckon the downside is that they take a lot of time to put on before the ceremony and take off at the end.

So my question is: have any of you had experience with purchasing your own chair covers? If so, how was the quality, and was it a hassle with the extra time they required? Also, if any brides have a summer wedding on Oahu and are contemplating purchasing chair covers (ivory), let me know and perhaps we can do a chair cover share!

Looking for venue, green lawn palm trees next to beach

I've been researching like crazy trying to find a venue for our very small wedding. The hotels and plantation houses are out of our budget for our small ceremony. We will only have 6-10 guests, a minister, musican and the two of us.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Olowalu Plantation House set up, but we just cannot afford to pay that price for a 20 min ceremony. Our reception will be at a restaurant or luau. Several of the restaurants suggested on other posts are nice, but don't offer that same look I'm searching for.

Ideally the space would offer lawn + palm trees + ocean view + sunshine look that I'm searching for. A view of Lanai or Molokai in the background would be a bonus too!!!

I'm completely open to a condo site, estate, restaurant etc.

Anyone have any suggestions? We have to set this before we do anthing else including setting our date. We know that March of 2013 is the month but other than that I have nothing else confirmed.

Wedding Cake Topper Sketch PIP

Slow today.... else TK is eating up posts before I can even spot them. So just to add filler to the forum I figure I would post a sketch that Danisn Man's younger sister drew of us of what she is going to paint our cake toppers as. I bought the peg dolls off Etsy and sent them to her. She's the family artist so she is also doing a guest sign in painting for us. That one is a surprise though. Have no idea what it will look like. We have clues but nothing definite. So without further ado, here it is...

As I'm still trying to find the perfect venue I am also working on my second most important aspect ... photography. I'd like some opinions.

We are having a very small wedding in HI and then having a reception with all our family when we get back. So we want coverage for both, plus I want to do a rock the dress session and have our photographer go on our whale watch, snorkel or shark dive with us; just to ge some more professinal pics in paradise.

I have two outstanding photographers who are extremely interested in coming to Hawaii to shoot our wedding. The have both shot destination weddings elsewhere and their package price (which includes everything I mentinoed above plus their travel) is not much more than the HI wedding photographers I've recieved quotes from for wedding day only coverage.

Has anyone had a photographer who has never shot in HI? That is my only worry about bringing someone. that they won't know the "good spots" or that their equipment may not be suited for HI.

Thoughts?

Does anyone have any feedback about Ernest Puaa (Da Barefoot Warrior), either as an officiant or music performer? Mostly, I'm curious about his overall vibe, but would appreciate any comments regarding reliability, stage presence, etc. He's been hard to nail down, but has confirmed that he's available to officiate my wedding.

And, for those of you who are about to suggest another officiant, all of these guys are booked on my date: Laki, Pia, De Rego, Tino - and I've tried to contact Pastor Vance but his number is dosconnected despite the fact that he JUST showed up in one of the wedding blog posts.

I just wanted to thank the brides that helped me with the wording and the feedback on our change the dates. I rebagged the soaps to fit our theme better and blocked out some of the icidentals but here is a picture of how they turned out. Hopefully it can help another bride someday as there is "Nothing" out there for change the dates. LOL I will send them in mailers with logo labels to match.

We are DIY invitations and I was trying to calculate how much time they will take us and when we should mail them? We were going to use Kimmy's idea of mailing them from the Bridal Veil, OR post office. We will be in Portland the weekend after 4th of July and FI says we should just mail them that Friday or Sat. but I think it is too early? Wedding is Oct. 11th.

Just wondering, has anyone eaten at Capische and if so what were your thoughts. I was thinking of getting the IL Teatro room for our small wedding of 6 adults and 2 tweens!!. All close family members. Any advice would be great. We are getting married on Paipu beach at sunset in maui so we were looking at something close to that. Any other suggestions would be great also. Wedding is not until Oct 22, 2013.

The FI and I are trying to make the guest list about 30 guest but everyday I have people calling telling me their family decided to take a vacation to come to the wedding. I don’t want to be rude but I never invited them in the first place. How do I tell them thanks but we are trying to keep the wedding only for the closest family members?

Hello ladies:

Just wondering if I could get some opinions on what you'd expect going to a DW in Maui. We don't want to look cheap, but we don't want to go broke either (we have some big drinkers coming to our wedding). Here's what we are thinking: Open Bar Mai tais for the hour long cocktail hour (if people want anything else, they can purchase it themselves). Then 2 bottles of wine per table (6 people at a table) for dinner.

Is that too cheap? What would you do differently?

Private Estate/Home Locations for Oahu Wedding

Any suggestions for a beach/oceanfront private estate or home for an outdoor wedding with ~100 guests? (Therefore, outdoor space is more important than the interior of the house).

Nothing too upscale and want to avoid the ones with packages, e.g., Lanikuhonua, since I want to keep costs down and do a lot of DIY.

My sister had her wedding at Da Pink House and it was a great location! Want something similar to Da Pink House.

Oh, and preferably not North Shore area b/c we will have a lot of out of towners who will likely stay in Waikiki.

Just returned from our planning trip

I was disappointed in Turtle Bay until Joanne became out catering coordinator. Joanne has her act together. The food was great, they were very flexible with the bar and are working well with our other vendors.

Deborah Hemingway is doing our flowers and table linens. She's a little on the " high end" but her work is excellent and I 'm exctied to see what she's putting together for us.

My big concern is our "flakey" priest. He didn't show up for our initial appt. We finally met with him and planned everything. Well, he called llast week and wanted to plan our wedding and asked if we wanted a rehearsal. The guy completely forgot that he met with us 2 weeks ago. I hope he shows up for the wedding....he's kinda crucial.

Do any of you Knotties have any last minute planning advice for me?..especially those of you who are getting married at Turtle Bay?

Maui Shuttle Service

Hi! I'm getting married at Olowalu this coming September. I need to provide shuttle service for my guests, who will mainly be staying in the Kaanapali beach area. Can anyone recommend a shuttle service that doesn's cost an arm and a leg? My WC recommended a 60 person bus that would cost about $1100. I think that there must be something cheaper out there. All suggestions and recommendations are welcome. Thanks everyone!!
