How to Get Ready W/O Groom Seeing Me

Hello,
We are planning to get married in Hawaii next year (probably Maui). We haven't booked the hotel yet but I'm wondering, does anyone have suggestions on how to get ready without my groom seeing me?
The wedding will just be the two of us, no guests, so we don't have another room to get ready in.
Would you suggest booking an extra room for that day so we have somewhere for me to get ready in private?

Also, how do you suggest getting to the location without going together? We hope to get married on a beach but should we get separate limos? Any other more budget-friendly suggestions?

Hello fellow B2B's!

I'm 3 weeks to go today and so excited! (best yet only 2 weeks till we fly to Hawaii!!!).

I received a call this morning from my fabulous Male of Honour that started "ok so don't freak out but...."..not the best way to start the morning lol

Turns out, the travel agent we booked our flights through got it wrong and there is no where to hang my dress in the aircraft (and we have a 10 hour flight eek). My dress can't be folded as the skirt is pleated silk (it's this fabulous dress http://kenziekate.blogspot.com/2008/04/johanna-johnson.html) so we have a mini crisis on our hands.

My Male of Honour called the designer and they are going to box it up for us so it can go into the over head compartment (sob) but it means I need to have it steamed when we get to Hawaii.

The designer is going to give very specific instructions for the dry cleaner for us to pass on, but can anyone recommend a really good dry cleaner in or near Waikiki?

So I'm so excited right now because I just bought tix to see Journey/Foreigner/Night Ranger for my FI's bday. What I'm wondering is how to surprise him with this concert... His bday is on a Monday, so we'll probably celebrate with his friends the weekend before. The concert is the following Saturday. Should I give him the tix on his bday in a card? Should I totally surprise him the day of and make up some story about where we're going? How would you do it???

Oh yah, I also don't want him to make plans for that night, so a cover story would be good. Maybe take him out to dinner...? That's a little out of the ordinary for us, so something different...?

FH says that I am out of control and we are going to have to buy extra plane tickets for our wedding week favors. LOL Last week I bought collapsible ice chest totes for each family, a bunch of white shells, and glass jars. I had coupons and all of the items were 50% to 75% off before my coupons. My grandmother always sends things ahead to the post office and has them hold it but I was thinking of asking the WC if I can send a few boxes to her or the condo site office. Have any of you done this or thought of this?

Just recieved an email from my coordinator! I was hesitant about booking a wedding package at the Royal Lahaina Resort because I originally wanted to do things a la carte BUT I am happy to say that I believe I made the right decision and can't wait to start discussing details with her :)

Now that we are in touch, I feel like this is so much more real and I CANT WAIT for November to get here :)

Oh, and my dress came in yesterday! I wasn't expecting it until beginning of July so that is a nice surprise :)

What about you ladies? Anything happening this week to make you bust out your happy dance? :D

Coordinator update

A short time after my posting yesterday my coordinator called me. She told me that a "bride" informed her of my post and this made her unhappy as it can ruin her reputation. I will be canceling as I don't think I will be needing her full-coordination services anymore.

She should be processing my file for a refund but I'm not sure how long it will take, I may send a follow-up email to clarrify the details. I really hope she keeps her word and sends the deposit back as promised. If not I will be sure to let you guys know. I still truly believe she takes on a lot for one person and if she continues to overbook I will not be the only bride on here complaining.

I don't know if you saw my last post, but I bought a "Just Maui'd" parasol today and I'll happily donate it to the rotation following my wedding for when there are brides close together or on the same date on different islands and using the same parasol either is risky or is not an option at all.

Hellooo Ladies!

I am new to this, just got engaged a few weeks ago. We have decided on Maui and in July of 2012. Neither of us have been to Hawaii, but have heard many good things about Maui weddings. It is DEFINITELY going to be on the beach, no ifs ands or buts, the only problem is, WHAT BEACH?! This is a lot harder than I thought! I'm about ready to close my eyes and just pick already! Does anyone have any suggestions as to which beach in Maui is best in the months of July. Or perhaps, not as busy, as we would like it to be as private as possible. There will most likely be about 20 of us, I know thats a large number for a beach but like I said, its going to be on a beach!! Please throw out ANY suggestions you might have, along with anywhere that would hold a nice reception, but still relatively cheap!

Aloha, wahinies!

I know I've been MIA lately. We were so busy getting everything ready for the engageemnt party I didn't have much computer time. Trying to get cuaght up now. It was all worth it though and the party was great. Even had some family travel down from Seattle for it.

The food was yummy, the weather was perfect, the gifts were grand and we had a wonderful time. Just one of those amazing feel good days.

We couldn't believe some of the gifts we got. It was so exciting. Even got all 14 nights of our honeymoon lodging paid for!

Looking back over the planning process, I just wanted to take a moment to reflect before we leave for Hawaii. I have enjoyed this board a great deal, first starting out as a lurker and then joining in as much as my schedule allowed. You ladies are an amazing support group and have made the whole planning process so much easier. I want to thank you for sharing your stories, your planning, your weddings and your inspiration.

What I learned throughout the planning process:

No matter what, we are bound to change our mind several times, about everything…flowers, colors, etc. Thank goodness for flexible wedding planners. You will find yourself doubting details more and more as you get closer to the wedding.

Dealing with airlines over the phone is a pain. Forgo the torture and pay extra fees. Keep a careful eye on itinerary changes, chances are, if they make a change you might end up on another flight with no assigned seats.

Beauty wise, begin building your tan about 2 months before the wedding. Go slowly and invest into the ergonomic mega beds. As for the nails, I had decided to do my own, but because I had to type so much during my internship, I wanted to make my nails stronger, so I went with shellac (twice to try it out) and then found the gel overlay at the end, which is pretty strong. I hope it holds up.

Packing will be an interesting process since you will be packing for a vacation but also carrying everything wedding related. I suggest finding a place in your closet where you can place everything you will need as you are remembering and coming across things.

What’s been the most fun about the whole planning process:

Checking out the Knot board on regular basis

Receiving subscription to Brides magazine

Loving every moment of being the ‘Bride’

Purchasing everything that has the word Bride on it

Blinging out shoes

Watching FI cut components of the invitations and STDs

Watching Say Yes to the Dress marathons without anyone being able to stop you or comment

Watching the Wedding Wars on VH1 with FI

Indulging in workout bootcamp sessions, tanning, waxing, spa treatments, teeth bleaching, and dance lessons because it is for the ‘wedding’

Attending wedding shows

Having amazing friends throw even more amazing bridal showers

Designing our stationary

Hearing ‘Aloha’ spoken on the phone

Having an engagement photo session on the campus of our University

Listening to our song over and over again

Sharing all the details about the wedding with friends and family

Watching mom’s face light up while trying on wedding dresses

Trying on over 50 wedding dresses before finding the one

Creating a video of ‘the journey to finding the dress’ for mom and FI to view after the wedding

Seeing FI’s face when the wedding countdown hit 7 days

Choosing FI’s tie

Searching for the nailpolish color to match FI’s tie

Making the favorite wedding poses book

Discovering Hawaiian culture and music along the way

There have been many more fun things, but that's all I can think of now.

We are getting married at a private house and aren't able to have a DJ (not sure if I would bother with one even if we could!). I've seen that quite a few ladies have gone the ipod dock route for music during the reception .. couple of questions:

1) Did you bring your own or did you rent one somewhere in Maui?
2) Was the volume good enough for what you needed?
3) What brand of ipod dock did you use? We are thinking of purchasing one and bringing it with us .. FI is the technical one but since you guys have been there done that I thought I would get some opinions.

i recently got engaged and i am so excited to start planning my wedding. my fiance and i are a same sex couple so most resorts or hotels out of the country don't allow same sex weddings. that leaves me with places in the us so i think Hawaii is a beautiful place to host our wedding. the good thing about Hawaii is that our families can fly out and be apart of our wedding day and also see a new place. the only problem is i have no idea where in Hawaii. i would love an all inclusive resort but i am not sure Hawaii has any. how did you guys decide where in Hawaii to host your weddings? what are your favorite hotels and islands in Hawaii?
