So here's the latest with FI's mom. She still hasn't seen my ring. It's been 2 months, she lives 15 minutes from us and we've seen her more than once since the engagement. However, she is now starting to act how we thought she was going to, but than were completely shocked when she acted like we didn't get engaged. Now she's asking a million questions and doesn't know when to stop. She's driving FI crazy. As well as me, of course.

She calls FI on Easter to ask about the engagement party, when she can start inviting ppl to it, when she can start giving ppl the information for it and when she can give out our website to others. Bless FI's heart, but he isn't the best with these kinds of details, so he's having to tell her to hold on and ask me the answers. I'm getting annoyed with having to deal with that stuff right than because it's Easter and we are at our neighbors's house as their guests for a very short amount of time before we leave for dinner. Yes, I think he should have not taken her call at that time and instead should have called her back after dinner.

So he's putting her on hold and asking me the answers, back and forth, back and forth. I actually can't even believe what she is asking. First of all, the engagement party is being thrown by my mom, not us. Second, does she really think that she can invite whoever she wants to a party being thrown by someone else and that it's alright for her to be giving out this information to whoever she wants? Especially after saying her and FI's dad would only help us with strings attached and FI has already told them that we will be paying for and planning everything ourselves.

He relays everything that I have told him which is that my mom is throwing the party, his mom is not to invite or give out the information to ANYONE, everyone who is invited will get an invitation in the mail and on the invitation will be the information for the party, website and how to RSVP. So she comes back with asking what if ppl happen to randomly find the website all on their own and just RSVP to the party without getting an invitation. More likely is her telling ppl about it even though we have told her not to.

It's highly unlikely that any of FI's family members would think to randomly look up to see if we have a wedding website. They are all much order and not very skilled when it comes to the Internet or even computers for that matter. Of the few that are younger, only 1 has gotten married and that was over 4 years ago. They did not have a wedding website. Besides, the RSVP section on our website says "Once you have received your engagement party invitation from the mother of the bride" and you also need the password on the invitation to be able to RSVP. We are also having a password on the pages with all of the Maui wedding information just in case. Even if ppl happen to "randomly" find the website it's not like it has the time and address of the party or that they would even be able to RSVP to it.

She was probably just trying to keep FI on the phone like usual since he kept telling her he had to go and that she needed to wait for her invitation and all other information she needs to know will be posted on the website following each invitation that goes out. She just wasn't listening to what he was saying and kept asking him the same questions over and over. He's also not able to tell her anything that we want to stay a secret because she will tell others.

UGH! I'm already tired of this stuff and we have only just begun. I can see why ppl run off and elope.

Hi Everyone!

I am new to the boards and honestly super overwhelmed with planning a wedding. I actually thought I would never get married!

My fiance and I decided on Hawaii as its halfway between our two home towns New York and Melbourne Australia. I have been to Hawaii several times and love it! We have decided on May next year.

Are there any recommendations that anyone has on locations? We are leaning more towards a private estate just as the hotels tend to seem pretty open and not private and my best friend got married in Halekulani so I want something different. I really want something oceanfront, I have looked at the estates advertised on here but was wondering has anyone rented a property before?

Thanks I apprecaite any help! :)

LJ

Hi ladies,

Im new to posting though I have been scouting out planning posts for a few months and would like to say THANKS for sharing all of your info!! It has been SO helpful so far. Also, Jen (akawinterbride) sent me some PM info that was so great! I have little spurts of time here and there to plan our special day as we have a 6 month old babe (during some naps when Im not napping and occassional late nights..!) I do have a few pressing dilemma's I would like some advice for!

We will be married on our 13 year anniversary next march. yay! Im sure you can imagine all the questions we have been getting for years about the big day...especially following our engagement last year! ( which i was 5 months pregnant at the time so the answer was always simple...we'll get married..when the time is right for us)

The problem at the moment is that we have a fairly large core group of friends who have all had large weddings at home, as well, I have been in 4 gf's wedding parties...and to their baby showers...and their childrens birthdays..etc...

Everyone has known that we would be getting married away and that was that. Now that we have set a date...I am getting bombarded with questions!! More so...automatic "when can we book?" , "we are so excited to go to maui", "we wouldn't miss it for anything.." Which is awesome but not awesome when we do not want a large wedding!!

I am in the process of making a webpage (thanks to all the good idea's on here!) that will be our informal formal invite as well. We have decided to have a weekend of camping at a ranch next summer to celebrate with all of our friends. We are undecided about whether or not to extend the invite for maui to everyone thinking many will not be able to come (we live in Canada and several have young children) or to seperate the close ones out of the group to ensure numbers dont get too out of hand! ..when a few commit..then...all want to try and make it...which includes their families/children as well!!

The problem with the website is that once you send it out..the info is out for all to see!

Do we just send it out to just family and closer friends? If so, how do we tell everyone else about the ranch celebration?

Do we put who is invited on the guest list to Maui for everyone to see?

Also, we plan to put a reply deadline to allow us to choose a venue that will suite our numbers and budget. Is two weeks reasonable? Should we send it out to family only first..then get a general number count, then close friends, then all friends who are invited to ranch weekend?

This is all just getting too complicated for a simple wedding!!! sheesh!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

thanks in advance for listening to my rant!

M

my BMs are organizing my bachelorette, but asked if I had any idea/preference of where we could party. We'll be in about 15 girls, ages 22-39, and we were looking for a place that has a good vibe for a Wednesday night.

I thought of Downtown Honolulu, so if one place is not too exciting we could find another or even bar-hop, but not sure which bar/nightclub would be a good option to start with. I've been to Indigo for dinner before and I remember they had a fun bar area that got crowded at night, but I have the impression it gets busier only on Fri/Sat nights. Another option we heard of is Pearl, I think in Ala Moana, but know nothing about it.

Any suggestions?

One thing I'm excited about is that we will get a limo to take us from the hotel in Waikiki to whichever bar/club so we can start warming up... fun fun!

So, I just kind of lurk on here to glean info.. you gals are great for that. :)

anyway, I post more over on the NEY board b/c BF hasn't popped the "official" ring-included question yet. He's asked, I've said yes, we know we want to get married next summer sometime (probably June/July), and we are most likely going to do a small Hawaii wedding. It's a second wedding for both of us, and we each have a child who would LOVE to go to Hawaii (not to mention being devastated if they found out we went there on a honeymoon and they didn't get to go. lol). So, this way, they can be there with us for part of it.

The problem I'm having is.. I am not going to start planning really (other than daydreaming and brainstorming), until there is an actual ring on my finger. But that may not be until Fall. How difficult would it be to plan a destination wedding in Hawaii in 6-8 months?

I know that one of the major considerations would whether our close loved ones could make it on that short of notice, so I've "whispered it" to a few of my closest friends, and parents, so the idea is in their heads for next summer. And hopefully that will be sufficient for now, since we don't have a date to STD for..

So, back to my main question.. what kind of obstacles might I run into with leaving only 6-8 months to plan a destination wedding in Hawaii?

TIA
-J

So I'm sure you ladies remember me posting about working at the Super Bowl. It was the most incredible experience of my life and the people I worked with there were amazing. I was one of two freelancers there, the rest of the crew were their employees.

I ABSOLUTELY HATE my FT job... but I can't make a move into a new job now with the wedding flights already booked and a vacation in July booked. If I were to start a new job there's no guarantee that I'd get that vacation time so I need to wait until after to start the job search.

Well, when I was at the Super Bowl, the owner of the production company I was working for kept making comments about wanting me to work for them. When he drove me to the airport he actually said that we should move to Raleigh, NC or Los Angeles, CA (where their offices are located) and if Steve was willing to move they would love to hire me. He then continued to tell me about their benefits.

Daydreaming about working there has been all that's gotten me through these past few months.

They asked me to work the Final Four a couple of months ago and I had to turn it down because I couldn't take any more time off work.

Well, the other guy who was freelancing with them along with me at the Super Bowl went to the Final Four... and he just quit his job and moved to Raleigh to work with them.

I am so heartbroken. This is my absolute dream job, and it was almost real.

I've been so MIA lately (I've been surplussed from my teaching position so life has been ker-azy) that I forgot to post pics of the dress I bought. I'm sooo madly in love with it - the colour especially, because it matches my eyes perfectly.

Anyway, I got this Jenny Yoo number in jewelled green (not the blue shown below)

Did I mention that it has pockets? And it's light and floaty and going to be perfect for our very belated honeymoon to Kauai in August?

It may also be the reason I'm coveting the items on that Kate Spade page...
