Hey ladies I'm new to the boards, but I wanted some advice. Has anyone used Elizabeth Jackson or Don Brent for photography in the Topeka/Lawrence/KC area? Also, I'm having a really hard time deciding on a DJ, I wasnt someone who isn't too pushy and is relaxing as well. Anyone tried Daren & Randy? They are wedding singers a friend suggested, but I don't know how well I like that idea. Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated!

We are keeping some traditions of course, but also are straying in some areas. We would really like live music for the ceremony, maybe accoustic and a violin, or just accoustic. I am having so many problems finding someone in the area! Any recommendations????

I am usually not a complainer, but I have had such a bad experience with this shop that I wanted to warn other brides!

I cannot stress enough how horrible this place is. If you are a bride, please do not put yourself through the stress of dealing with this store. I did not get my dress here, but I took my four bridesmaids in to get theirs. The girls were not measured, they just had them try on random dresses until one fit and then ordered that size in the dress we wanted. That just does not work since dresses are often cut and sized differently.

1 - One of my bridesmaids was very newly pregnant and will be 6 mos. pregnant at the time of my wedding. They said one size bigger would be sufficient and they would alter it to fit. When the dress came in it was way too tight, even after every last inch had been taken it. We ended up having to pay well over $100 in alterations and buying additional fabric for her dress. Natalie M. said we could order another but would have to pay an additional $180 to have it rushed so we'd get it in time.

2 - One of the other girls tried on her dress and it was two sizes too small. Again, she had to pay a lot of money to buy fabric and put into the dress.

When I called the store to talk to the manager about this, she got angry, shouted at me and accused me of lying. She claimed that her store had never had a complaint and she would not let me speak. When I called back the next day, the employee I spoke to wasn't as rude, but she put me on hold several times, more or less said my bridesmaids were too fat and still would not really listen to my complaint.

I am just outraged at the lack of professionalism and the rudeness of these people. We trusted their employees on ordering the correct sizes and even though they were wrong, we're paying for it. Please seek another shop for getting your gowns!

I wanted to share the experience one of my bridesmaids had when she went to be measured for an Alfred Angelo dress at Tomorrow's Memories. The associate measured her and had her try on 2 dresses. The first one was in a size my bridesmaid suggested, which ended up being way to big. The associate then put her in a dress 4 sizes smaller and recommended a size bigger, knowing full well that she just measured my friend's waist as 7" BIGGER than the waist of that particular size. I think the associate should have realized there was a large error and recommended a bigger size. My bridesmaid now has a dress 3 sizes too small and we have to pay for extra fabric to fix it. My friend told me as she left the establishment she did not have a very positive experience there and didn't feel the associates were very knowledgeable.

I literally, *just now* noticed the difference between the KS and the MO-KC board. I've been using the MO- KC board. I know there are several other KS girls on that board, too, and we're even creating a KC Knotties website with vendor reviews, local resources, DIY, etc. We'd love your input! I am selling the beautiful Alvina Valenta gown that I wore for my August 2009 wedding. The strapless gown embodies the romanticism of an Alvina Valenta gown, with a mermaid shape, intricate Alencon lace and ribbon detailing along the bodice and the hem, and a long satin ribbon and true buttons all the way down the back. My photographer told me it was one of the prettiest dresses they had seen all year, and it photographed beautifully (the ivory satin ribbon detail shimmered under the lights of our reception and really popped against the subtle sheen of the gown).

Though the dress was in very good condition after the wedding, I spent over $500 to have it professionally cleaned by Madame Paulette, a world-renowned couture cleaning expert based in NYC who cleaned Melania Trump’s wedding gown. I inspected the gown before they carefully packed it into a box with acid-free tissue, and it looked beautiful.

The details are as follows:

Style Number – Alvina Valenta #9503

Size – The gown itself is labeled as a Size 12 (Street Size 8). I lost some weight leading up to the wedding and had the gown altered to about a Street Size 4. I am 5’4” and wore about 3” heels on my wedding day. I had the tailor build a French bustle into the gown for the reception.

Color – The gown is a rum pink duchess satin (I would describe the color as ivory with a subtle pink tinge – it is a signature Alvina Valenta color), and the Alencon lace and satin ribbon detail are ivory.

I'm looking for a creative location for a reception in Topeka. I want something urban/modern. In general I'm so sick of all the generic wedding reception sites in Topeka (i.e. the Ramada, Capital Plaza etc...). Does anyone have any ideas? Topeka has zero resources for brides!

Well, here it goes! I live just north of downtown Wichita, near the Riverside district. I want my family and friends to see the same things while they're here that I see everyday. So I'm looking for unique places in the downtown or riverside areas. Any suggestions?Ideally, I would like the drive from the ceremony to the reception to be one with lots of sites and interesting things for them to see. I'm considering the building at Minosa park for the reception. Once we get the guest list together we'll know exactly how big these places need to be. (Bear in mind that I'm no different than everyone else - I'm not looking to spend a lot of money).
