I am having a spring wedding. May 20th 2011. I have picked the bridesmaids dresses already. They are cornflower blue. I have not had any luck finding a blue flower to match so I chose white and bright orange.... Do you think that will be good colors?? I am also going to find a blue flower that will compliment the blue dresses... I like the way they look together but I just wanted opinions.

Hi Ladies,
Full disclosure - I'm a vendor.
I was reading the vendor reviews posted, and I was saddened to see a number of you didn't get a video of your wedding (I am a videographer.) Why not?
A video becomes a family heirloom; especially when you see folks you generally care about offering their best wishes to you.
I've been married 17 years now; we got a basic VHS video (wasn't doing videos then) and I can't tell you how much I value seeing my late grandmother and some late friends smiling and laughing and having a good time. Some here have suggested just getting it shot and getting it edited later. That is certainly better than skipping a video altogether. Your children will be fascinated and thank you.

I just got married last Saturday and I've been trying to take a moment to give you girls some vendor reviews. Hope this helps with your own planning:

ATTIRE: I got my dress, along with my bridesmaids dresses from Rebeccas. They were great. My bridesmaids live all over the US, so they mailed them their dresses and helped them find stores close to them where they could try on similar dresses and get measured. They don't do alterations or steaming, so they knock down the price a little bit, but they were great. the girl who helped me (Zoey) always remembered my name, dress, number of bridesmaids, etc. . .even if I made a surprise visit. I kind of felt like I needed to invite her to the wedding she was so helpful. One of my bridesmaids dropped out too when she realized her due date was the same as the wedding and they did everything possible to get her a full refund. A+

For guys we went to Colonial Quick. My SIL used them and said great things. we experienced something totally different. They lost our orders and details. Every time a groomsman went in, it was "Barron? We don't have a Barron wedding." Since they were close to where I work I would go in on my lunch break to clear everything up, but the next time. . .it was the same thing. They ordered my dad a RED suit, even though the groomsmen were in navy and lime green. I had to fix that. Then my brother was told they were ordering him a 2 XL shirt and he told them "No, I wear a 4 XT" And they insisted he didn't. So of course when the shirt came in. . .two days before the wedding. . .it didn't fit. They also COMPLETELY forgot to order a suit for our ring bearer, even though he got measured THREE times. All of this was handled by my lovely husband who didn't want to upset me right before the wedding, but it was a MESS. Never, never again. Their prices were much better and they did have big and tall suits which was a neccessity for us (my dad and brother are 7 foot tall each) but NOT WORTH IT!!! We threatened to report them to the BBB and Charles said "Our rating is already an F." So he didn't care. F

Hair: I have always gone to Splitting Hairs on Brownsboro Road, so I took all my bridesmaids there. It was $40 for everyone to have their hair done, plus a free trial run for me. Navi is my favorite, but they shut the place down for us, served us martinis and we have a blast getting our hair done. All the girls looked great. A+

Rentals: We rented from Rent and Rave and I probably changed my order 8 times. They were always nice, always helpful and never made me feel like an idoit for changing my order. The day of delivery it was pouring and my mom and I helped the guys set up all the tables. They refused to accept a tip because we had helped set up, but did come in for lemonaide. They seemed like really great guys and inspected each table they delivered. They took crummy ones back and delivered new ones with in the next two hours. The white chairs were a little rusty and had some color marks that I was nervous about, but honestly, but the time everything was set up, it didn't matter and you couldn't tell. A for the company and people there B for the products.

Limo: I'm sure everyone has heard my story on Aztec so F- for them. . .or whatever is lower than an F.

People to People: Fantastic. The Limo was HUGE. I think we fit twenty people in there and the guy helped the bridesmaids lay out all their dresses on the way to the church. He didn't have much personality otherwise, but he was helpful. The charter back at the end of the night was a great guy who made us feel like we were the best married couple in the world. He gave us a lighter when we realized we didn't have one! A

PHOTOGRAPHY: Kory Johnson is amazing. I cannot say enough. We already have teasers and it's only been a week. He's a great guy and the photos were amazing. Out of all of our vendors, he gets the highest marks. If i had to do it all over again and could only use one of the same vendors. . .it would be Kory. A+++

FLOWERS: We went with David King from Panache. David's been a friend of the family for a long time, so I pretty much met with him once and then let him have free reign. I trust him and the flowers were GORGEOUS. He cut us a deal ont he price, so I don't know what his prices are like compared to others, but meeting with him once and then not having to worry about it was such a relief. My mom didn't like the corsages for the mothers, but she doesn't like things touching her, so I'm not sure if her opinion counts. A

DJ: We went with Masterful DJ out of New Albany, IN (Mark Brisson). He was the best price around ($75 an hour.) He was okay. At points I wish he would be quiet, but he played all of the songs we requested and taught my mom and aunt Beyonce's Single Ladies dance, which they LOVED. I didn't give him much guidance, so that may be my fault, but for the price, he was great. B

I think that's it. Let me know if you have questions about anything else.

I'm a November 2011 bride! I just called the venue (Discovery Lodge in Evansville, IN) and booked 11/5/11. I'll feel better once I have the contract in hand (they're mailing it to me), but they said they would put me down for that date.

At first I was disappointed because I was hoping for an October wedding, but then I realized we'd be getting married 5 years to the weekend of our first date and thought that was kind of cool! Plus it's only a few weeks after the original date I wanted. I wasn't sure at first because my birthday is the 14th, but FI birthday is ON Christmas, so we might as well lump as many family holidays together in two months as possible. :)

I got married on June 19 and thought I would write reviews because they were so helpful to me. I tried to do my wedding on a budget and used lots of single people instead of large businesses

WEDDING DRESS- BRIDAL SUITE OF LOUISVILLE - A
They were awesome. Loved the girls there, they were so sweet and helpful. Wish they would of had more bridesmaids dresses and I would of used them for the girls as well

BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES- REBECCAS- A
I had a few out of town BM's and they were helpful in getting them what they needed and shipping their dresses. Also they have a huge selection

CATERING- PAULA WARD- A+++
Paula was amazing. She was so helpful and made sure the reception went smoothly. She was able to answer many questions throughout the process. Will use her again if I ever need a caterer.

CEREMONY- CALDWELL CHAPEL- A
The Chapel was beautiful and everyone commented on that. The only thing is it can be confusing to get to... especially for out of town guests.

RECEPTION- ST MATTHEWS COMMUNITY CENTER- C
The center is great once you get the decoration in and it is a great price. The lady that runsit is overwhelming. Was told different things from her and never knew what was going on. Finally had to put my mom on that because I couldn't handle it.

CAKE- ROBIN- B-
I can't remember his last name but he does the cakes out of his house. The cake was a great deal. I thought the cake would look perfect because he said he could do exactly what I wanted but ended up not and I was upset about that. The cake was good though.

RENTAL- ON THE BRIDES SIDE- A+
Lola was amazing and was so helpful. Linens were $5 a piece and she put up the cake decoration without charging. So sweet and made the decorating process smoother

CHAIR RENTAL- BALLOUS- A
I did not deal with any of the chair drop off or pick up so I don't know how well that went but they were great to work with on the phone.

BRIDESMAIDS JEWELRY-ETSY-BETHSBEADED DESIGNS-A+
I got a great deal on their jewelry and they all loved it and still wear it. Even got complements from wedding guests.

PHOTOGRAPHY- JASON COOBS
I don't have pictures yet so I can't grade him. He was great to work with and helpful. Was happy with my epics. I know that there are a couple of pictures on the wedding day that I wanted taken that did not get taken.

TUXES- MENS WAREHOUSE- A
We used MW since they are located in so many states and we had a GM in Nashville and NYC. We were able to check back and they let us know who had and had not been fitted.

HAIR-LEBLISS-A
I had a huge mess with my hair. The girl that told me she would do it as a wedding present backed out so I ended up getting my hairdresser, Jessica McCarty to do it. She was able to get me in with only a month left before the wedding. SHe did a great job.

So we're looking at having our wedding September or October 2011. I know the date really depends on the availability of venues, but I want to have a starting point in mind when I start asking them about dates.

We won't be getting married in a church, so our options are outside or at a cool indoor location. So far everything we've found would be outdoor.

My question is, do you think it would be too chilly to have a 15-20 minute ceremony outside in October? I've looked at past years weather patterns and the max temps have gone anywhere from low 60's to low 70's for the middle of October. Since it's so ungodly hot right now, it's hard for me to imagine was lot 60's feels like. :)

The wedding would either be here in Louisville or Evansville, IN which has the same weather as us.

I got married June 18th. Everyone's vendor reviews were very helpful to me so I hope this might help some of you.

Reception-Frazier Museum
We had our reception in the 4th floor room. It was so great working with the people at Frazier. I worked with Julie Kruer in planning the event and she was always very helpful. At Frazier you get a day of coordinator to help out and they were on top of everything and made sure we had exactly what we needed. The room looked stunning.

Photographer- Courtney Reece
Courtney was absolutely wonderful. We booked her for 12 hours and she was great the whole time. She also had a second shooter so they got every possible picture. Courtney was great at helping us feel comfortable and my family and friends were very impressed with her. She had a sneak peek on her website the very next day and had all the photos ready in just over a week after the wedding. I would highly recommend her.

Attire- Rebecca's
I had a great experience with getting my dress, the bridesmaids' dresses and the tuxes. They went above and beyond in helping make sure we got exactly what we wanted

Jewelry- After Glow
They did my wedding jewelry and my bridesmaids jewelry. It is all custom made so they can make you exactly what you want. I ordered my jewelry and went in a few weeks later to pick it up and they remembered exactly who I was when I walked in the door.

Florist- J Elizabeth Designs
Jill did a great job with the flowers. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted but Jill helped me figure out what would look great. She knew everything about the location and even contacted Frazier to make sure they were on the same page. The day of the wedding the dropped the bouqets off at the hotel and even gave us vases with water in the to keep them fresh for the ceremony

Cake- Wesley Waddle
One of my friend recommended Wesley to me and he did a wonderful job. He lives in Mundsfordville but charges only about $45 dollars for delivery which is cheaper then some in Louisville. We met him in Elizabeth town for a tasting and picked out a cake we loved. He is very cheap at 1.25-1.50 a slice. The cake was wonderful and he even gave us an anniversary tier for us to freeze.

Caterer- Naiman's catering
Les was very helpful in planning our menu. He has many choices to choose from and worked with us to make the meal fit our budget. He came to my house and had a tasting for free and even made enough for 8 people. I heard many people comment about how good the food was and that it was the best wedding food they ever had. They even gave us all the left over food and had it packed and ready at the end of the night.

Limo- Xtreme limo
I picked xtreme because they gave us a good deal. The 3 limo pick up for the 2 pick up price. Our first limo ride to the picture site and to the church was awful. It was so hot in the limo and hot air or no air was blowing out. My sister called the company and they said they would see what they could do. During the ceremony the driver got us a new limo and it was bigger and the air worked.

Photobooth- Magnolia Photobooth
I got a coupon for Magnolia on groupon.com and they were great. They had plenty of props and our guests seemed to really like the photobooth idea.

DJ- A-z productions
They have a very nice set up and were very non intrusive. I know some DJs can be too intrusive on the big day but they played the music we asked and made sure we were on track from cutting the cake and first dances

Ok I think that is it. Let me know if you need anymore information on one of my vendors!

I got married on June 12th. Here are my vendor reviews:

Ceremony: Caldwell Chapel (Louisville Presbyterian Seminary) - A
The church is beautiful, we loved the stain glass and the organ. Neither my H or I live in Louisville we decided to get married there because that's where I went to HS and where my parents currently live. Neither of their home churches were able to help us because they have Saturday service so that's how we found Caldwell. It was reasonably priced and the coordinator they had to help was very nice. The only draw back was since we were getting married in June and the location is very popular we had to participate in a "lottery" and we didn't get our first choice date of June 5th. That was a little annoying but everything worked out in the end.

Reception Space/Catering: Oxmoor Country Club- A+
My parents are members of Oxmoor which is why we ultimately chose to have the reception here. We didn't have to pay for the room but its very reasonably priced for non-members. They recently completely remodeled the ballroom and entry way to the clubhouse so it was up-to-date and beautiful. The colors are neutral so any wedding color combo can work. Their wedding coordinator is extremely helpful and I felt like they really went above and beyond to help us execute the reception. The food was also good, they have lots of choices and it's all very reasonably priced. We had lots of compliments on the food. They also gave H and I to go boxes of our food and cake to eat that night which was a nice touch because I hadn't really gotten an opportunity to eat much.

Cake: Plehn's Bakery A+
Plehn's in fantastic. They make a delicious cake. They use buttercream, not fondant which I prefer taste-wise- but the cake still looks polished and beautiful. They executed my idea perfectly and it tasted amazing. People were stopping us to ask us where the cake was from. They often attend bridal shows in the area and give coupons so we got 15% off as well!

DJ: Hay DJ- A+
Heather rocks. She gets an idea of the style of music you and your fiance like and then creates the atmosphere from there. A lot of our guests aren't big dancers so I was concerned there wouldn't be much activity on the dance floor but it was packed all night. She seemed to know what songs to play to get them out there. She was easy to work with and also reasonably priced. She mentored under Yancey Entertainment who is also good but more expensive to book.

Photography: Kriech-Hidgon A
Jessie and Chris are great to work with. They are easy and laid back. We don't have any wedding pictures back yet but judging off what I know they shot and how our engagement pictures turn out I'm sure I won't be disappointed. They think outside the box and are able to find some great places to get pictures!

Florist: J. Elizabeth Designs- A+
Jill was awesome. She perfectly executed my vision. I love love loved my bouquet and our centerpieces and arrangments. She was also good at working with your style, taste and budget. She spent a lot of time with us during the consultation and knows venues well enough to be able to provide recommendations on what will look good and make the most of your money in the space.

Organist: Ann Wells- A+
If your church has an organ but no organist I highly recommend Ann. She was awesome and had a great personality. We really had no clue on ceremony music but when we met with her she had several picked out and let us pick the ones we liked best. She came to both our rehearsal and ceremony which was great and was so affordable!

Wedding Planner- Vicki Dukes A+
We used Vicki primarily as a day off wedding planner but she helped us a little bit along the way as well. She had great suggestions and was in charge of decorating the reception space and coordinating with vendors. She thought of all the little things I would have forgotten and completely took the stress of me. If anything went wrong on the day of-I had no idea.

Beauty:

Z's Salon- F
I had originally booked Z's salon for me and my bridal party (6 total people) They were a nightmare to work with. It's rather pricey and you have to pre-pay for everyone 30 days before the wedding. I had my hair trial scheduled for 3 weeks before my my wedding. About a week out I was called and told my appointment time had changed. I was not asked if the new time would be okay. Just told that it was changed. I was frustrated but it still worked for me so fine. 2 days before my trial I was called and told it was changed again. Not only that but my stylists for the trial (and subsequently wedding day) had been changed too. I was livid because once again, I was not asked I was told. I thought I was the client? And I was told when we signed the agreement that if you were within 30 days nothing could change. The new time did not work for me (I was an out of town bride as well so it's not like I could pop over at any time) I was incredibly frustrated and upset and lacking confidence in the salon--what if this happened on my WEDDING day? I called them and told them how unhappy I was. The coordinator, Deanna, never expressed any concern she didn't even say "I'm sorry" I told her I wanted to cancel all our appointments and expected our money to be returned because the terms of our agreement had been violated. They agreed. Actually, that didn't seem concerned at all that they were losing hundreds of dollars of business. Awful, just awful stress for a bride to have to deal with so close to her wedding day.

Joseph's Salon- A++++
After the fall out from Z's I called Joseph's and explained the situation and asked if they had room to accomodate a wedding party of 6. This was just 3 weeks out from my wedding. The person handling my call was amazingly nice and friendly and she told me she'd be able to accomodate not only my wedding party but that they could also get me in for a trial when I was going to be in town (which was the next day) They were absolutely awesome. Everyone was very pleased with their hair and make-up. They even give you an emergency kit for the wedding day. They apparently had 13 weddings at the salon that day but made you feel like you were the only one. It was great customer service. They were also a lot more affordable.

Paper- Charms- A
We got our Save the Dates and Invitations at Charms. They were great to work with and helped us pick great invitations and save the dates that fit our style. They were a little expensive but that was also my own fault do to choices I made like thermography on the invites.

Hope that helps! If you have any questions/need contact info or wants to see pics from any of my vendors I'd be happy to help!

I've seen some sites say that you can bring your own food and alcohol (specifically Sawyer-Hayes). I was wondering how this worked with the caterer that you choose. Do many caterers let you supply your own alcohol and licensed bartender? And do you just go to the local Liquor Barn or something and buy all of it there?

We want to have an outdoor wedding and reception in the same location. I've narrowed my list down to Sawyer-Hayes, Farnsley Morman Landing, and maybe a few other sites. Sawyer-Hayes was more expensive than Farnsley Morman, but if we end up saving a bunch on the cost of liquor then that would be a deal-breaker. Any help or suggestions are appreciated since we're on a tight budget!
