Hi ladies... I just got married in NOLA and I found the reviews on these boards REALLY HELPFUL in planning it, so here are my reviews:

Photographers: Langiappe Studios A++
I got an extremely artistic portfolio of still photos not only on disc, but put to motion in a music video and I used them as well for getting a video of the wedding. We got the most beautiful shots of every little detail of the day of the wedding, the rehearsal dinner, the ceremony and the reception. I wanted a more artistic, short video that I would actually watch again, and that's exactly what I got. They can do the typical longer form video with the typical, speeches and such as well. It's just not what I wanted. They're a new company and they did a fantastic job for me. Easiest place to find them is on facebook. They're still creating a website.

Venue: Mike's on the Avenue -- A
It's a restaurant that we bought out for our reception. It's a beautiful space that looks like an art gallery. We wanted additional seating and they made it happen. It made the capacity of the space a lot less... but it was worth it to give all the family members seats who needed them. The food was great, even their call brand liquor was good and they were easy to work with.

LImos: VIP Transport -- A
I negotiated prices by getting quotes from a bunch of limo companies and played them off each other. VIP ended up giving us the best deal. Their limos weren't the newest I've ever seen, but the drivers were on time, really nice and given that we were only in the limos a total of fifteen minutes, it was perfect.

Cake: Haydels A+
I wanted a very simple cake with flowers on top. Haydels is a staple in New Orleans, and they are reasonably priced. The cake was beatiful, delicious and delivered on time. I highly recommend them. The only warning is that they're in Old Jefferson and do charge a delivery fee to bring a cake to New Orleans.

Make Up Artist: Betsy Boone A++
Betsy made me look more glamorous than I could ever have imagined. She does work with TV shows and the movies, and after seeing myself and my mom the day of the wedding, I can understand why. She is absolutely worth every penny you pay her. She brings her own chair to wherever you're getting ready and is super sweet. Her website is www.betsyboonemakeup.com. I highly recommend her!

DJ: Rock It Productions A+
We wanted our wedding to be one big party, so we decided to go with a DJ. John with Rock It Productions was fantastic. Everyone at the wedding danced all night. He played exactly what we wanted and really knew how to work the crowd. His prices are reasonable and you can get different levels of the DJ's who work for him. We were so glad we hired John. He really made the wedding a blast. His website is www.rockitpro.info.

Favors: Hubig's Custom Pies A++
These were a HUGE hit. They're delicious and people loved that they could grab a couple of them at the door. Plus, you have to pick them up a couple of days in advance at their Marigny factory, and it made my entire condo smell like apple pie for two days! They're also just a little more than a buck a favor which was exactly the right price for us.

I hope this helps!! I know reading everyone else's did for my planning purposes.

Maile Lani Photography-
Maile is an amazing photographer with a bubbly personality that puts everyone at ease. Maile's work is incredibly beautiful and many of her images have a vintagy feel to them. We got her film & digital package and some of my favorite shots are the ones she took with her film cameras. She is super sweet, unpretentious, and has an impressive creative eye. Much of the work I've seen of other photographers can be somewhat predictable, Maile's images turned out so fresh and unique, we are so happy we found her!

High Rise Productions-
Based out of Baton Rouge, High Rise Productions is a terrific company run by several very dedicated and talented guys. Their work is really impressive- w/o being cheesy, as I found many others to be. Randy was a pleasure to work with and captured Everything from our wedding. I originally didn't think we needed a videographer, but I'm so grateful we found one we liked so much. The video is awesome-- I couldn't ask for a more complete documenation of the wedding events. Also, HRP is much more reasonably priced than some of the other production companies out there!

Does this sound acceptable? Should I also be springing for a morning after brunch?

TIA!!!!

I've read plenty of great reviews about Christina O'Malley the florist. I met with her back in September & was very impressed by the quality of her work portfolio, her reasonable prices & how flexible she is about changes to the order up to the last 2 weeks before the wedding.
However, I was a little unsettled by the fact that she doesn't have a formal contract for services. I asked her to send me one to sign so that I would have her reserved for my date, but she said that she doesn't really do contracts because of all the last minute changes that brides make. She also volunteered a story of how she put a brides heirloom rosary from her deceased grandmother on a different brides bouquet. I understand mistakes happen, but that along with the lack of a contract are leaving me unsure if she will honor her obligation to deliver my order to the 4 different locations correctly & on time.
Should I "demand" a written contract, just leave things as they are or take my business elsewhere? I feel like I'm kind of limited as to the number of florists who would be willing to accomodate my order & delivery for my Sunday afternoon wedding.
SIGH! Please send any suggestions u have...they are greatly appreciated!

We were married on June 4th, and our wedding completely exceeded our expectations. The entire weekend was amazing but went by too quickly. We would love to go back and relive it all over again. I found so much useful info from lurking through the vendor reviews on this board so I figured I'd return the favor.

Venue: Musee Conti Wax Museum - A+

My husband and I were extremely pleased with Musee Conti. Our guests have not stopped talking about how great it was and that they had never been to a wedding like it before. The room has so much character and was perfect for us. Beth is amazing! She took care of everything for us. When we arrived on the wedding day, everything was set up and ready to go. She even had a bottle of champagne for the wedding party while waiting for the ceremony to begin. All we had to do was get married and enjoy the reception. She had drinks ready for my husband and I the entire night, and she kept things going according to our timeline. It was such an amazing day. If we had to do it all over again, we wouldn't have changed a thing.

Photography: Dark Roux Photography - A+

Dark Roux is a talented husband and wife team so you automatically get two photographers. They are professional and so much fun to work with. We have not had any professional photography sessions before, but Jamie and Heather made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera. They do such an amazing job at capturing the moment. We felt like we relived the wedding day while looking through the photos. My husband and I agree that this was the best decision we made throughout the planning process! If anyone is interested, here is the blog post from our wedding... http://darkroux.com/?p=1413 Also, here is the blog post from our engagement session... http://darkroux.com/?p=758

Catering: Capdeboscq Catering - A+

Capdeboscq Catering was great! Our guests are still raving about the food. Capdeboscq provided great service throughout the wedding planning process, from the tasting party, to the meeting for our food choices, then to the wedding reception itself. I think you get so much more food for the money compared to other caterers I looked into. We were very happy with the food and service.
ETA: The food we chose for our reception...
-Turkey carving station

-Buffet selections: Crawfish Monica pasta, Cajun Jambalaya, Roast beef debris gravy with mashed potatoes

-Garlic bread

-Assortment of overstuffed finger sandwiches

-Cocktail muffulettas

-BLT sandwiches

-Strawberry and cream sandwiches

-Hors d'oeuvres: Crab patties, Cocktail pizzas, Stuffed potato skins, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Cajun meat pies, Shrimp Remoulade cups, Artichoke Quiche Triangles

Videography: High Rise Productions - A

Randy was so easy to work with and the pricing was reasonable. We handled everything through email. He arrived at the time we agreed on the wedding day. I felt like he filmed everything we wanted without being in our way. This was actually a very last minute decision about a month before the wedding. We weren't going to do videography for budget reasons. We realized that this is something that we would regret not having. I can't rate the final product yet since there are still a few weeks until the promised completion date.

Cakes: Haydel's Bakery - A

We were very happy with our cakes. The staff at Haydel's was very nice when we met to make our cake choices. The bride's cake was a regular three tiered cake. It turned out beautiful and was exactly what I wanted. I heard guests commenting on how moist and light it was. The groom's cake was a tiered king cake. We also received many compliments on the king cake. A cake allowance was included in our catering package. We only had to pay a little extra since we wanted two cakes.

Officiant: Rob Savoy - A

The coordinator at the Wax museum suggested Rob. My husband and I met with him at a coffee shop so we could get to know each other. He asked a lot of questions about us and our love story that he incorporated into the ceremony. Our ceremony was short and sweet but still personal which is exactly what we wanted. Rob will also normally attend the rehearsal for no extra charge. He had a previous engagement scheduled during our rehearsal, and I didn't feel the need to make him cancel. Everything turned out great, and guests commented on how sweet the ceremony was.

Ceremony Musicians: New Orleans Finest Musicians - A

They were extremely easy to work with. I set everything up through email. We had a trio that played jazz music before our ceremony. Then they played a few classical songs for the processional and "When the Saints Go Marching In" for the recessional. These musicians were professional, and we were very happy with their services.

Florist: Erin Steen - A

Flowers were never a priority for us. I looked through reviews on the board and contacted Erin Steen. She works out of her home so I figured her prices would be more reasonable. I sent her a list of the bouquets, corsages, etc that I wanted, and she sent me a quote. Later we met in person to look through pictures and discuss what types of flowers I wanted. I absolutely loved the end product and was very happy with Erin.

DJ: Crescent City DJ - B

Harold was so easy to work with. We did everything through email. I spent such a long time on his website choosing the "Must Play" list, "Play if Possible" list, and "Do not play" list. I also listed which songs we wanted played for the first dance, cake cuttig, etc. and some extra notes. I know that he saw these lists because he emailed me saying that the notes were cut off on his end. He asked me to reply with what I originally wrote so I did. Fast forward to the reception. I will say that we had so much fun that night. Our guests were on the dance floor pretty much the whole time. All of the correct songs were played for the cake, bouquet and garter toss. I had no concept of time that night so I wasn't paying attention to the fact that the reception was almost over and so many of our requested songs weren't played. A ton were played that were not on any list. None of the play if possible songs were played. Maybe half of our must play songs were played so I was pretty upset afterwards. My FIL asked me to request a song to surprise my husband which wasn't played. I requested a song that was played at my parents' wedding that wasn't played. Also we had two guests whose anniversary was that night, and I asked for that to be announced. It wasn't. Overall, we still had fun, but I'm so upset that I didn't notice everything before the reception ended.

John's Tuxedos - A

We received helpful advice from the store associate since we had no idea what we were doing. The service was great and prices were comparable to other stores. We chose John's because we wanted to use local businesses, and it turned out to be a great decision. They even picked up the tuxes from the hotel on Monday morning so we didn't have to worry about bringing them back to the store.

Royal Carriages - A-

We reserved the Saints carriage. I set everything up through email. Then they called on Thursday before the wedding to confirm everything. At the end of our reception, the coordinator told us that the carriage was not there yet. She called the emergency line for the company and left some nasty messages. The carriage finally arrived, and the man apologized saying that he had a really hard time crossing Bourbon St. I was just happy we were able to leave in the carriage as opposed to walking down the street to our hotel.

Two Sisters Hair & Makeup - A+

Gina and Stephanie made my family and I look so beautiful for my wedding day. We received so many compliments, and our hair and make-up lasted all night. My hair even still looked pretty good for breakfast the next day. They both were a pleasure to work with, and we enjoyed visiting with them while getting ready.

Rehearsal Dinner: Ralph & Kacoo's - A+

My FIL set everything up from OOT. The food was delicious, and the service was awesome.

Voodoo BBQ - A

We took some OOT guests and family here on that Thursday night. Once again, the food and service were both great.

Etsy
I used Etsy for quite a few things and was happy with all of the following shops.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/lizmpetro - We ordered our mini second line umbrellas here.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/brendasbridalveils - I ordered my birdcage veil from here.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/artofwhimsyphoto - We ordered one of these alphabet photos of our last name with a matte around it for our "guest book."

http://www.etsy.com/shop/RemnantsByEva - We ordered custom handkerchiefs for our parents.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheSilverDiva - I ordered custom cufflinks for my husband.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/SayYourPiece - I ordered from here for myself and hostess gifts for my shower.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/BlueButterflyDesign - Our custom cake topper was an LSU tiger bride and Clemson tiger groom. It was a surprise for my husband, and he loved it. We also have a little keepsake now for our home.

I think that's about it even though I feel like I'm forgetting something. Feel free to ask me any questions. I hope all of your wedding days are as amazing for you as mine was for me! Good luck!!

I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on my upcoming wedding in April 2012 in New Orleans. I want to keep with an "Old World New Orleans" feel and add a vintage inspiration to it. I am having trouble picking colors however because I ever much of a gem tone kind of girl. I do NOT want to go with Mardi Gras colors as that as been done too many times. I have my gown which is in oyster and look amazing on me, if I can say so myself. http://www.marysbridal.com/bridal/5201.htm
I am looking at colors to compliment me, the season, and new orleans. I have looked at the Pantone colors and found some I like such as Camo, Quartz, Honey Dew, Seaside, and other in shades of blue and purple but they just seem to give me more of a sensory overload. Any suggestions? My first thought was to go with a peacock theme http://www.theknot.com/profiles/cromano76/wedding-planner/inspirationboards but that has been SO many time and I would go with classic black and neatreuls but I am trying to keep it classy and fresh for spring. Any suggestions you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
