Hello and congrats to all NOLA brides and grooms! I just got married on 1/15/11 and absolutely LOVED all of my vendors! I planned everything from out of town without a wedding planner and it was so easy thanks to all of my wonderful vendors! Everything came together on our big day and we were lucky enough not to have one single problem! Any questions please let me know!

Hotels--The Westin Canal Place--We had rooms blocked off for all of our guests at the Westin. They were great about reserving a block of rooms for our guests and guaranteed a river view for everyone. We ended up having more guests than the original number we blocked off and they were happy to open more rooms up for the wedding rate. Both of our parents were upgraded to suites and my husband and I received one free night in the honeymoon suite after the wedding. Since we were out of town bride/groom, we arrived a few days early with family. We were showered with wine and champagne when we arrived and met personally with the wedding coordinator for the hotel who assured us she would be available for anything during our stay. The rooms were great and everyone got their river view!
The Sheraton--We also had some guests stay at the Sheraton. They all said the rooms were great. The groom and groomsman all had a room there to get ready in on the big day and they said the hotel staff were very helpful!

Church--First Presbyterian Church of New Orleans-- Fabulous Church! It is relatively small and cozy with beautiful stain glass and a great history! We had 160 guests and they fit perfectly into the church. Neither one of us is Presbyterian and the pastor was great about letting us be involved with the ceremony. The pastor is wonderful and was very easy to get a hold of and meet with. She got to know us and made our ceremony very personal. They have a beautiful organ and the acustics in the sanctuary are awesome! Our ceremony felt very 'homey' and intimate! I loved the fact that they let us take pictures in the sanctuary during the ceremony.

Ceremony Music--A Touch of Rose--Karen Rose-- Karen was great to work with! We just needed an organist for the ceremony but she has other instrumentalists available (strings, piano, etc). She sent me a CD with some of her work and was very helpful in picking out music! She has people available to play at the ceremony or at cocktail hours!

Hair/Make-Up--Flawless Bride-- Heather was AMAZING!!! All she does is professional hair and make-up for weddings, photo shoots, etc. She has an eye for what looks good on people! My hair was done exactly how I wanted and stayed in place the whole night! She was readily available for a trial run and her and another stylist came to our hotel room the day of. They did all of my bridesmaids hair as well and there were no complaints! I did the airbrush make-up which was the best idea of the day! My make-up stayed perfect and natural throughout the day without any need for touch-ups.

Photography--Ardent Studio-- Timothy Pham was AWESOME!! Him and his assistants were so great and FUN to deal with! He has a very modern eye and came up with amazing shots! He took every picture we wanted and even drove around with us on the limo to places in the Quarter to take outdoor shots! I felt like we had our own paparazzi following us around all day and night! Even all of our guests were commenting on how great they were and how they couldn't wait to see pics. They all have great personalities and fit perfectly into our day!

Limo--Big Easy Limos-- Very great to work with! We had multiple hotel pick-ups with different limos needed at different times. Every limo was where it needed to be exactly at the time stated! The drivers were great! We had a large wedding party and they had a wonderful limo bus that fit us all after the wedding ceremony! We were able to drive around and make stops all over NOLA for pics!

Flowers--Bee's Florist-- Eric was GREAT to work with! I told him I wanted flowers that were unique, fun, and classy and that's exactly what I got! He has an incredible imagination and does great designs for any taste! I even had some last minute changes that he was able to work with! Not only were the bouquets and flowers for the reception beautiful, but they were all delivered on time with no problems! He personally delivered all the bouquets to our suite, the boutoniers to another hotel for the groom/groomsman, and all the flowers to the church. Again, HIGHLY recommend!!

Reception--The Westin Canal Place-- BEAUTIFUL!! The ball room was amazing with three huge windows along one wall, mirrors on the opposite wall, and three chandeliers across the ceiling. The wedding coordinator was there for the whole event to make sure everything ran smoothly. We had a sit down dinner and she even helped accommodate for a few guests who didn't RSVP. We had a private tasting before the wedding to pick out our menu which was very nice! The food on the big day was even better than when we picked it out! We also had a cocktail hour before dinner...the area outside of the ball room was great and we were able to have a full bar and multiple cocktail tables set up. The ballroom and cocktail area are on the 12th floor so it was nice to have our own restrooms and private area without having to worry that other hotel guests would be walking thru.

DJ--Rock-It-Productions-- Awesome! Kept everyone on the dance floor all night long! The DJs were fun, professional, and very interactive. They played every song on my 'must play list' and didn't play anything from my 'don't play list'. They took requests and were even able to accomidate one of our friends who wanted to sing and dance to a special song! We had guests of all ages and everyone was up dancing! They have different levels of DJs and lighting packages which makes it possible for any budget.

Photo Booth--Square Face Photo-- By far the hit of the party!! The pics are surprisingly good! They print out immediately and we were able to make our own custom border. After the wedding, pics are posted on their website so you can order any if you want!

Again, I had the wedding of my dreams and not a single problem on the big day!! I will post pics as soon as I get them! I loved all the vendors and would be happy to answer any questions you have about any of them! Best of luck to all you NOLA Brides!!

Courtney

I was wondering where should I have all the things that will be in bags shipped before the wedding? Do I have them all shipped to Denver (my home place) and then put it all together and ship it to NOLA ? what are my other possibilities?
I will arrive in NOLA a few days before the wedding

The Benachi House and Gardens - The Benachi House is a beautiful venue, but if you plan on having a band for your reception DO NOT have your wedding here. Their is a noise ordinance and the owner is VERY strict about it. DO NOT HAVE YOUR WEDDING HERE IF YOU HAVE ANY TYPE OF AMPLIFIED MUSIC FOR THE RECEPTION. The owner will hassle you for the entire reception, and the venue is not worth the hassle. One of his employees even came up and unplugged the guitar player without talking to anyone first, it was very rude and unprofessional. Our band was very frustrated. When you sign the contract the owner is not clear about how strict they are.

Fine Arts Ensemble - I used Fine Arts Ensemble for my ceremony. If you are looking for traditional, classical wedding music they are a good option. However, if you want anything other than that do not use them. They charge you for every song they don't already have and they didn't have any of the more modern songs I was looking for. Also, the vocalist they sent me was an opera singer which did not work for my music at all!!!!

Get Polished Events - Emily and her staff at Get Polished were a huge help for my wedding! Being an out of town bride it was nice to have someone in New Orleans to help with the planning. All of their ideas were great, and they had some wonderful vendor recommendations. On the day of the wedding I didn't have to worry about anything. The Get Polished Team also did my hair and makeup, along with the bridesmaids and both mothers. Everyone LOVED their hair and makeup!!! I had a wonderful wedding day!

Sam Gregory Photography - We LOVE our wedding photos! Sam did such an amazing job. The colors in our photos are amazing. He was really easy to work with and got all the shots that I wanted. He was very professional, and was very inconspicuous. We will cherish our wedding photos!

Melissa's Fine Pastries - Not only was our cake beautiful, but it tasted AMAZING! We had a lemon poppyseed cake and it was so light and delicious. I have been craving more of that cake! Melissa is very creative and has some very impressive cake designs.

Bella Blooms Floral - I didn't have a lot of ideas for florals to start with and Bella Blooms was a great help. She had wonderful ideas that are unique and beautiful, and is so easy to work wtih. When I wanted to scale a few things back she was more than willing to work with me. My bouquet and the bridemaid bouquets were perfect. I couldn't have asked for better floral arrangements for the wedding and the reception.

Palate Catering - Palate was a good choice as our caterer. They were very easy to work with, and accomodated all of my special requests. The food was delicious and their presentation was nice also. I don't eat gumbo, but all of the guests raved about their gumbo! One of the passed hors d'ouerves was a little burnt, but that was the only thing that went wrong.

Big Sams Funky Nation - If you are looking for a great New Orleans funk band you should look into Big Sams, and if you haven't seen one of their shows before go check them out. They were so much fun and awesome musicians. We had so many people out on the dance floor. They even put up with our noise ordinance issues. GREAT BAND!

We're in NOLA checking out rehersal dinner sites, and we stopped in at Oceana. I asked our waiter if I could talk to the manager about having a private party. The waiter came back and said the manager was swamped; they were going to be filming Kitchen Nightmares at Oceana on 1/23, but to call him in a week or so. I'd never heard of Kitchen Nightmares before, so I looked it up when I got home. The show's website said...

World-renowned chef Gordon Ramsay is back for a third course of the ultimate restaurant revival show where he steps out of his own five-star establishments and travels the country visiting some of the most unsanitary and unsuccessful restaurants in America. For many, Ramsay is their last chance to help turn around their businesses or else they'll be forced to close their doors forever

AHHH! There have been lots of good reviews for Oceana on this board, and I thought the food was good, and there was a good crowd there. But I don't think I better book a party there right now!

Kelly Sherlock: A+ - Kelly was my AMAZING wedding planner. I was never stressed while planning my wedding. I feel like Kelly did most of the work and I just made decisions. I told her what I was looking for and she totally got me. I would never have found my wedding venue without her and it was perfect. She also found me my florist and my hair & make-up people. I truly feel like she was indispensable. I enjoyed planning and attending my wedding because of Kelly.

The Chicory: A+ - A new venue at 610 S. Peter's next to Ernst Cafe. We had both the ceremony & reception here. It's a beautiful restored old coffee warehouse with just enough modern touches but all the old world charm. The food was really, really great. They also threw in a vodka upgrade for free (b/c DH loves Grey Goose) and when so many people at the reception asked for Crown Royal they provided it without an upcharge as well.

Studio Tran Photography: A+ - My pictures are so beautiful. I knew that Corine or Beebe would capture the best moments at my wedding and that I had to have one or the other. I was lucky enough to get Corine (and Leslie as her assistant) and I love my pictures. Looking at them reminds me how much fun I had at my wedding.

Haydel's Bakery: A - Haydel's did our wedding cake and it tasted great. It looked mostly like what I wanted but I asked for this kind of scroll work detail to fall down the cake and it wasn't as big as I would have liked and the colors weren't exactly what I wanted. But since I think that's splitting hairs, I'm just taking away the +.

Sean Lionnet: A+ - Sean did my groom's cake. I found out about him through my wedding planner. He bakes on the side but is a great baker. I wanted a sort of complicated cake that looked like a Tecate beer can with a Tobasco bottle and limes. Kelly said that kind of cake would be super expensive at a regular bakery and suggested I use Sean. We met and I looked through his portfolio and decided he'd be perfect. The cake came out GREAT. DH loved it. It tasted awesome and cost half what our wedding cake cost (and the wedding cake wasn't nearly as complicated).

Federico's Florist: A - For the most part I loved the flowers at my wedding. I wasn't super picky about the flowers and didn't give tons of direction - just asked for "purple." I kind of wish there had been more purple but otherwise the flowers were beautiful and Federico's was very, very reasonably priced. I was shocked by how much less the flowers ended up being than what I expected.

5 Finger Discount: A+ - 5 Finger Discount are definitely on the more expensive side for a band but they were phenomenal. Everyone loved them and they kept people on the dance floor all night. I knew I wanted a live band for my wedding and 5 Finger provided excellent entertainment.

Algier's Brass Band: A - I used Algier's Brass Band for my second line and they did a great job. The music was awesome and all my guests (especially my OOT guests) loved the second line.

John's Tuxedos: A+ - All the guys looked great. I loved worked with a small business for this part of the wedding. Everyone at John's made us feel like our business was important to them. Plus, they picked up the tuxes at the hotel for us so people didn't have to worry about returning them.

Bustles & Bows: A+ - I got my wedding dress here and I just love the owner, Shelley. She's the sweetest person ever. She was so helpful without being overbearing. I loved my dress and I loved how reasonably priced it was. I also bought most of my accessories here too.

Pearl's Place: F - I knew from this board that Pearl's was terrible but they were the only store in the area that carried the bridesmaids dresses I wanted. The service was fine until we'd paid for the dresses, then it quickly went downhill. They even lost 2 of the dresses for a couple of days and didn't seem concerned about it at all. At that point it would have been too late to order new dresses. They kept insisting someone had already picked the dresses up and then when they found the dresses (they had no clue where they were - how do they not have a system to track this???) they did not apologize for continually blaming my bridesmaids for the problem.

Elvia's Alterations: A+ - Elvia is the woman I used to do the alterations on my wedding dress. She was suggested to me by Bustles & Bows. I could immediately tell how comfortable Elvia was working with my dress and making it what I wanted it to be. She was great and very reasonably prices as well.

W Hotel on Poydras: A - We had our room block here. The rate was out of this world for a W and the service was pretty great the whole time we were there. I was a little disappointed with the bathroom in my suite (I think it could have been nicer) and the tub was having some issues with draining properly. Plus, I wasn't really impressed with their breakfast. But, it was a great place for pictures and the prices was just so reasonable.

Judge Kevin Centanni: A+ - Judge Centanni was a perfect officiant. We met with him beforehand and he allowed me to alter the words he was going to use as much as I wanted. The length of our ceremony was perfect and he was the perfect level of gregariousness. My OOT guests kept saying he was exactly what they'd expect of a judge from Louisiana (whatever that means). In addition, Judge Centanni took care of everything with mailing the license in after we had signed it so we didn't have to worry about it at all.

Gem Printing: A - Gem was great for invitations and favors. I think they were probably a little more expensive than some online options but I really appreciated how quickly the got everything done.

Second Line Umbrellas - Etsy seller lizmpetro: A+ - I loved our umbrellas. I loved that I got to design them. I told Liz what I wanted and she did exactly what I asked for.

Hair - Trish Popovich from Style Squared Salon: A+ - I LOVED my hair. Trish did my hair, my 5 bridesmaids, my mom, my MIL, and my 2 flower girls. They all looked great. And when Trish found out I was paying for everyone she gave me an excellent deal. And I can't tell you how many people told me that night how much they loved my hair. People how have seen pictures also always compliment my hair. Trish is a really sweet person and I loved having her with us all that day as were were getting beautiful.

Make-up - Ellen Sbisa: A+ - I truly loved my make-up. Ellen was scheduled to do me, my mom, my MIL and 4 of my bridesmaids. When the fifth bridesmaid saw how awesome everyone looked she asked to get hers done too so I asked Ellen to squeeze her in. Then my 2 flower girls really wanted to get theirs done too. I asked Ellen if she could also squeeze a little something in for them just to make them feel special and of course I'd pay for it. Not only did she squeeze all 3 in (giving the little girls just enough so they felt pretty but not too much), but she told me she wouldn't charge for the flower girls. Everyone looked and felt beautiful thanks to Ellen.

Emeril's: A+ - Our rehearsal dinner was at Emeril's and I thought it was great. The food was awesome and everyone loved it (especially the OOT guests). I didn't find Emeril's to be much more expensive than most other places so I decided it was worth it. On top of the great food, they were very accomodating to creating a special meal for the best man who had a gluten intolerance and altering dishes so that my sister's 3 kids and my brother's son would be happy with their food. I couldn't ask for them to be more flexible and they dealt really well with my siblings' crazy children constantly being in the way of the servers.

I really lucked out with some amazing vendors for my wedding. The only one I wasn't happy with was Pearl's Place. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions anyone might have or provide more information about a particular vendor.

Good luck to everyone in planning their wedding!!!!!!!

Hi ladies! I am envisioning being able to ride the Canal Street Line from the French Quarter side, to City Park. I see from the routes online (http://www.norta.com/Files/Route_PDFs/47-48_Canal%20streetcar_web.pdf) that the purple route will take me INTO City Park, where the Museum is located. Since I have never been to City Park, I need your help as locals. Is this area (at the end of the purple route) going to be easily accessible for my small wedding party to walk around and find a pretty spot for the ceremony? I'm simple in that I want a nice outdoor spot, with mossy trees and a little area for 10-20 of us to stand while we have a quick little ceremony. Do you think this area will work for what I want? OR, should we take taxis so we can find a more suitable area, and have the ability to drive around in search of said area? Thanks!!!
