We moved into our house about 3.5 weeks ago. I have a 2.5 year old cat. Other than being scared to death the first day or two she was using her litter box pretty well. We found a couple of accidents up stairs but didn't think much of it because it was when we just moved.. but then she started urinating on the futon (which is in the same room as her litter box!). We moved her litter box to the basement about a week ago, and it is going fine at night. But she just urinated on a pillow on the futon! I'm so frustrated! She lived in the basement for two years (so she is use to the furnace noise & the stairs & kitty doors) with us at my parents house! She is use to having all the stairs & room to run around in. She is such a loving & snuggly kitty and I hate having to discipline her. I need to get this under control so I can just go back to cuddling with her!

I got married on 10-02-10 in Portland, ME. The weather was perfect... just cool enough so I didn't sweat my butt off during the photos and ceremony. DH and I opted for a first look in order to get most of the formals out of the way. I highly recommend it if you're not super traditional. It saved so much time, and I got such a great reaction from my husband :) It was great seeing him before things got going with the ceremony and all.

First I'll do my vendor reviews:
Wedding venue-- Keeley the Katerer: A
Fi and I paid for a majority of the wedding on our own. We could have gone fancier, but we both agreed that it's one day & we didn't want every spare penny we have to go into wedding savings. The prices were the most reasonable around. The food was delicious. They were so friendly, and I had so many compliments on our buffet selection. I personally loaded my plate & I barely touched the selection. Three different carving stations... three different salads... seafood newburg... stuffed shells... meatballs, etc... it was perfect. My only warning is you deal with the owner himself during all the planning then on the wedding day you deal with somebody else entirely. She's a very nice woman; it's just a little bit of a curveball.

We had our ceremony onsite for the additional fee. They had chairs set up and would have put out any decor we had. It's a really pretty backyard with a nice white arbor to get married in front of that's decorated for the season.

Photographer-- First Frame Studio Sanford, ME (Gretchen Halverson): A+
Gretchen and her assistant photographer, Kathleen, were both super fun on the wedding day. I just remember laughing a lot during the little photo session with me and my bridesmaids. I can honestly say they are incredibly sneaky photographers, I barely recall seeing them snap a picture the whole night (I mean that in a good way!). She was great with organizing our formals and getting them done ASAP. Gretchen is such a sweetheart and I looooove the sneak peaks I've seen so far.

DJ- McD's Entertainment: A+
It's a husband wife duo. Prices are so reasonable. My husband's father works with the wife & they have DJ'd a few of his events. They really listen to what you want. While waiting to walk down the aisle they were playing Vitamin String Quartet which fit perfectly with the theme of the ceremony :) They sounded great, pronounced everybody's names correctly, and got a great feel of what the crowd wanted.

Cake- Nothing Bakes Like a Parrott, Portland, ME: B
There was a mistake with the flavor of the top of my cake. Which is fine in hindsight since it was never served. Apparently Keeley's didnt get the memo that it was to be served. Even though that layer was incorrect it all tasted great & looked gorgeous! She's a little difficult to get in touch with. I just emailed her today about the mess up on my cake-- I'm wondering what will happen.

Flowers-- Globalrose.com: A++++
I ordered 500 roses. Only two of them arrived broken and that was at the stem so the flower was still totally usable for my centerpieces. I made 5 floral centerpieces, my white rose bouquet, 2 bridesmaids and 1 MOH bouquet, 7 boutineers, an arragement for the room I was getting ready in, another arrangement for the guest book table, and plenty of rose petals to go around. It all came out beautifully. It took 5 of us probably about 3 hours to get all these done the day before the wedding. I couldn't have been happier with how they turned out.

Ok here are my sneak peaks-- a lot of them are detail shots... it's what I really wanted. You put a lot of effort into these details, you can't let them go unnoticed!!

my bouquet on my train

MOH bouquet... and you can see how the head table was decorated...

Ring shot!!

Me waiting to walk down to see the groom :)

If you have any questions feel free to email at KIST1002@gmail.com

Thanks!

So my Fiance and I are getting married Oct 1, next year. We really want to get married outside, we have the location already. We have decided on an afternoon ceremony in hopes that the weather will work out for us and it wont be too chilly. I'm having a hard time planning how things will work out time wise. We'd like to have a relaxed buffet style dinner but with an afternoon ceremony we don't want people to feel like they have to wait forever to be fed! We're thinking a 1 or 2 o'clock ceremony, then some time for pictures and maybe appetizers for guests during that time? So a dinner at 5? Does that sounds like too much time to kill in between? How early can a dinner be? Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm a married lady! Our wedding was beautiful and with only a few minor glitches it was pretty perfect. Here are the vendor reviews...some from southern Maine but mostly our vendors were from the central Maine area.

Madeleine's Daughter, B-: Madeleine's Daughter in Portsmouth, NH was great when it came to trying on dresses and choosing the one for me. However, after I bought my dress and they got their sale, my service went right down hill. They did not seem interested in helping me find a veil or shoes and I also got my alterations done there and had a terrible experience. The woman did not finish my dress for my last appointment that we told them we would be taking the dress with us after and then had to rush to finish and messed it all up. I ended up having to take my dress with me (since we live 2 hours from Portsmouth and couldn't go back again) and brought it to my local seamstress who saved the day! All in all, its a great place to buy your dress but don't expect much once you've shown them the money! I bought my veil at Andrea's Bridal in Portland, ME and wished I would have bought my dress there. They were awesome to work with!

Eric's Restaurant, A+: Eric's Restaurant in Waterville did our catering and our bar service and they were extraordinary to say the least. The food was amazing and the service exceptional. They are also very reasonably priced! The only minor snag we had with them is that they didn't bring enough beer of choice and non of my drink of choice so that was a downer but we made it through the night :-) One great thing about them is they came out early in the morning on Saturday and put all the linens on the tables along with our centerpieces, spaced our chairs appropriately at each table and lit all our candles just before dinner. This isn't something that all caterers would do.

Clare Norton Photography, A++: Clare is located in Westbrook, ME and she is AMAZING! She did two other weddings I went to before I booked her for mine and let me tell you, you cannot go wrong with Clare. She has 1 flat fee for the whole day and that includes a CD with all of your pictures on it in the end. I've only seen one picture that she took so far but it was amazing. Many of our guests told us that every time they turned around the photographer was right there taking pictures, upon pictures. We can't wait to see the rest of the pictures that Clare took!

Sidekick DJ's, A++: Logan Feeney is the owner or Sidekick DJ's out of Brunswick, ME and we cannot say enough good things about him. We are still hearing things from out guests about how great our DJ was. He kept people on the dance floor all night long and there was never a dull moment. From the introductions to the cake cutting and garter removal and toss Logan was perfect. I would recommend Logan to anyone in the Central to Southern Maine area.

Classic Tuxedo, C: Classic Tuxedo in Waterville was not very good. I had heard so many good things about them but I guess everyone else got the good stuff cause our experience was terrible. We had 10 tuxes (7 groomsmen, groom, Father of the bride, and ring bearer) and out of 10 only 3 of them were right the first time around. Luckily we went in on Thursday to pick up the tuxes because there were 2 jackets that were too small, 1 groomsmen's shoes were the complete wrong size, the ring bearers shirt was way too big, and someone's pants were too small. They re-ordered what was supposed to be the correct sizes and on Saturday when they groomsmen went to put on their tuxes, one of them was missing their shoes completely, one was missing their tie completely and one still had the wrong size shoes. It was a mess to say the least. Now all my pictures have one of the groomsmen with a different colored tie on. Anyways, I would NOT recomment Classic Tuxedo to anyone!

KMD Florist, A: KMD Florist did my bridal bouquet, bridesmaid's bouquets and boutineirs and they were absolutely beautiful. I couldn't have asked for more. They did forget my toss bouquet but we made it work.

Sam's Club, A+: We got all of our flowers for the ceremony and reception through Sam's Club online. I ordered 100 fuscia gerbera daisy's, 20 stems of white hydrangea and 90 white roses and they were beautiful. I got it all for around $250 and had I gone thorugh my florist it would have been well over $500. You can choose when you want them delivered and I had mine delivered on the Thursday before the wedding and that was perfect timing. Most of them are actually still in the mason jars that they were in for centerpieces all around our house still alive. I would recommend Sam's Club flowers for anyone that is doing their own centerpieces and decorations.

The Bankery, A++: The Bankery is in Skowhegan, ME and they made our cake. It was amazing to say the least. We had guests asking all night long who made our cake because it was so beautiful. I would recommend the Bankery to anyone.

Are You Ready to Party, A: We got our tent, chairs, and tables from Are You Ready to Party in Waterville and they were great to work with. Everything was delivered on time and just how we ordered it. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a tent or table rentals.

David's Bridal, A: The Bridesmaid's dresses came from David's and it was a great experience. They were very helpful and the dresses are beautiful. I know some people have had problems with David's but our experience was great.

Bar Harbor Inn, A+: We honeymooned at the Bar Harbor Inn and it was amazing. We had massages at the spa, ate and danced to the piano and I would recommend the Bar Harbor Inn to anyone. It is located right downtown in the heart of Bar Harbor so it is just a short walk to most restaurants and shops. It was wonderful!

Hello!

I have been checking this board periodically since I got engaged in early August but hadn't contributed anything - mostly because we didn't have anything planned yet! We just booked our reception at Grace Restaurant in downtown Portland and are super relieved to have that settled. My fiance and I both grew up in Maine but live in the Boston area now. We are just far enough away to make the planning a little difficult but I am looking forward to have more excuses to come back to our home state!

Thanks for all of your helpful posts - I will try to start contributing more now :)

What time is Sunset in Brunswick maine on Memorial Day weekend?

We had started planning our wedding around sunset and i think we forgot to add an hour for day light savings. What do I do now? Do we just push everything back an hour, I feel like it will be too late to serve dinner . . . . Do we go on as planned and not have a sunset ceremony? Do we have just a cocktail reception (my original plan because we are havign a lunch the next day)? Or do we push everthing to the next day adn just have the ceremony before the lunch we were planning?
