Hi all,

I'm living (and getting married) abroad but will be flying home to visit family about two weeks after my wedding. I plan to take my husband's last name and will be legally changing it in NY during my visit.

My plan is to go to the SS office in the morning when it opens and change my name there; I've already checked and they're okay with accepting an overseas marriage license despite the website implying otherwise.

But will I be able to go to the DMV that same day, or do I need to wait for my new SS card? I'm only in NY for a few days so if I can't change the name on my driver's license immediately, I'll have to wait at least a year, which I really don't want to do.

Basically, is having my current license, my current passport (both in my maiden name) plus my marriage license enough proof to change the name on my driver's license? The website doesn't seem clear to me either way.

Thanks for any insight anyone has!

We are booking a private room at a restaurant. I think that we might have a problem with being able to have a rehearsal because it is in a restaurant. Has anyone else done this, or had an issue with being able to plan a rehearsal?

Because we both are having all of our siblings in the wedding party, and a couple of close friends. Our wedding party will be 8 bridesmaids and 8 groomsmen. I am worried that things might be a little disorganized on the day of without a rehearsal. What do you think? Has anyone ever walked in a wedding that did not have a rehearsal?

My fiance and I are both New Yorkers but we are having our ceremony in NJ.

My fiance really wants our marriage certificate to be from NYC because it's where we live and the place we are from, as opposed to a NJ certificate which is a place we don't have much of a connection to, aside from having our ceremony there.

Do you know if it's possible to "transfer" a NJ certificate to a NYC one?

TIA!

I recently looked into having my wedding at Wave Hill for about 80 guests. If anyone has had a wedding there would you mind sharing what your total budget was?

I'm not planing on having a bridal party or any extra elements that would bring the cost up but including the catering, photography and a reasonable budget for NYC florists I'm already at $60k all in - including the $10k donation fee the venue requires.

That's not including my dress, transportation there, etc. For such a small guest count, I feel like it's so expensive. Did anyone else spend so much for what's considered a "small" wedding?

Hi Ladies,

My fiance and I just got engaged on Christmas Eve. We have decided to have a short engagement, and get married sometime this summer (June - Aug). We aren't settled on a specific date yet, and are willing to chose a Friday or Sunday date depending on venue availability.

We are also going to limit our guest list to 50 ppl or so, in effort to save money. Just close family and friends.

Most venues that I have researched so far, have a 75person or more minimum. So, I am thinking that a restaurant would work for us too. Although, I would love some place that has a site for the ceremony too.

Any suggestions?

While I may be able to talk my fiancé into increasing our budget to around 7k, the truth is we both want to buy a house (outside of the city) in a couple of years, and he has a daughter with a pricey pre-K. We're not going into this with a ton of family assistance and I'm not comfortable funneling alllll of my savings into it. So! Here is where I am at: we're looking at either November or December 2015 or March-May 2016. 50-60 people. I am absolutely adamant against an outdoor wedding in NY because I am faaaar too anxious to spend the better part of a year freaking out over the weather (and I would). But I need help finding an indoor venue/catering options that don't soar past 5k.

50% of our guest list is coming from out of town so I want to be able to feed people (buffet/stations is fine with me) and not just do passed h'ors d'oeuvres, but I am having no luck finding anything.

Getting married at city hall and then just having a dinner party later is becoming an option, and fast, despite my reluctance, unless we can track something down. My dreeeeeeam would have been the Metropolitan Building but at 6k for just the venue, that's not an option.

We're looking in the outer boroughs and Hudson Valley (he lives in Westchester). Not interested in Long Island, fwiw. Would anyone have any suggestions at all? I've started to really dislike trying to plan my wedding.
