Since I am having my reception at Budleigh which is right across from the restaurant, she said they will provide flatware and plates for no addtional charge. Who has used her? Most important, HOW WAS THE FOOD? :)

thanks so much brides!! <3

A distance growing between you and your single friends since you got engaged??

It seems like the past month or two have really been tough on my friendships. And I'm trying to find balance between my married self and former single self. Meaning, I used to go out and do happy hour once a week with my girls, do hangover breakfast the next day and then shop or do man/pedis together. Since getting engaged and working on our house & wedding, it seems like I have less and less time and desire to do these things with my single friends. And it's awkward a little now when we do get together because it feels like we have less in common now. I mean, they still send me drunk texts about the "hottie" they met and are partying with, it's just I don't seem to want to engage in the same ways with them as I did when I was single. It's hard. Do any of you feel like this too??

PS- sorry for the double posts today, work is slow :)

Hi All (I can't say just "Ladies" anymore since we have a gentlemen poster now :),
So, as many of you on the board have read in the past week, my FMIL is pretty difficult and giving me a very hard time with planning. After agreeing to our floral proposal originally, she now has announced that she will be making our centerpieces, rather than paying for them. For many reasons, most having to do with her hideous taste in decor, I would rather have our florist make them. I spoke with my FI about this, per your advice, and he agreed that he DOES NOT want his mom making them. Thank God he gets it!

So, yesterday, we are at their house for Father's Day and FMIL brings up the centerpieces. My FI, being the wonderful man that he is, did try to argue with them that it would be much better & easier if we just let the Florist do her job. But they were not having it. They are insistant on making them. They say that the cost per piece is "way too much" and plus (this is their major point), they want guests to be able to take the centerpieces home with them. And if the florist makes them, the vases are rented, so they must be left behind.

My issue is, firstly, everyone coming to our wedding is coming from OOT, so how exactly are they going to take home a centerpiece that contains water, sand, shells and candles??? Aren't they just going to leave them in their hotel rooms? Secondly, it's not that much money! ALL they are paying for in this wedding is the flowers (which are about $900 total including centerpeices) and the rehearsal dinner. That's it. My parents are paying for everything else. And my parents have to travel 3,000 miles too, while FI's parents only have to drive a few hours. So, if the issue really is money, it seems like fighting over a few hundred dollars is ridiculous.

My Mom totally understands my frustration and has offered to pay for the centerpieces. So, now I must decide.....how do I tell my FMIL this? I don't want to be a bitch, but her reasons for wanting to make these centerpieces are just not that convincing to me. I know she will take it personally, and will think that she's being a cheap ass so my parents have to pay for yet another thing. But that's the truth. I just don't get her. But she won't budge, so she leaves me no choice. Right???

Okay Ladies,
I need your help on an issue with my FMIL. Let me start at the beginning:

When we first were making our wedding budget and dividing up who would pay for what, FMIL offered to pay for flowers and the rehearsal dinner. I’ve been working with her along with the florists and checking with her about the costs. She agreed to, and paid deposit to, the florist we finally chose. So, I’m thinking everything is good, we are set on the flowers.

Then last night happened……She tells me she wants to talk about the centerpieces. She’s decided that she wants to make the centerpieces. She said she talked to her friend who told her the cost is too much per centerpiece and she can make them herself for much cheaper. (They are $75 each).

Here is my problem with this. I’m not really sure they will end up costing that much less once she buys all the materials. Then she’s going to have to lug all the vases and materials down to OBX with her and sit there on the day of our wedding making them (they have sand & water in them so they can’t be pre-made). Also, I like our florist (who is also an event designer btw) and I know that I trust her more to make the tables look classy and expensive, not cheap and cheesy- as I think FMIL’s will look (if her house décor is a reflection of her decorating taste, I am scared). I just really would rather order them from the florist and not have to worry on my wedding day about something this stupid. But I’m not sure if I have the energy to fight her on this either. It is important to me, and I did spend time figuring out how we wanted to tables to look, so I’m reluctant to just give up on it. I hate having to fight her on something that I feel should be my decision as the bride. But I’m also just really tired of butting heads over stuff with her, it’s exhausting. So, I’m not sure what to do.

HELP! What would you do?

A couple of weeks ago I found a bunch of those great plastic sand castle pails at Target in the $1 bin so I stocked up on them to use as welcome bags/gifts for our guests. Does anyone have some ideas of what to fill them with? We are probably going to get the personalized water bottles that have our names, date, etc on them, some small packages of goldfish crackers or something, and I am running out of 'cute' beachy ideas of what to put in there? I also read on here a while ago that the OBX visitors bureau will send visitors guides to you for free, so I will probably include those so people have ideas of what to do when in town for the wedding.

Anyone have suggestions of other 'favors' to put in the welcome bag?? Thanks!!

Okay Ladies,
Got my invites and working on addressing them and sending them out this week. Now, I know the proper thing to do is to include pre-paid postage on the envelopes for the guest to use to RSVP. The thing is, we are inviting 119 people, and I KNOW that only about 60 will actually attend. I know this because most of my friends and family live in California and won't be able to afford the travel for the wedding. So....here's my dilemma. Do I include RSVP postage on every invite anyway? Or do I only put it on the ones I think are coming? Or not at all? I don't want to be overly cheap but I also hate wasting money (especially when I have alot more important things pertaining to our wedding to spend it on). What do you think?

So, I'm over at my FMIL's house last night putting together our invitations and she notices that Kill Devil Hills is spelled wrong! It's spelled as Kell Devil Hills. CRAP. Crappity, crap, crap! So, I pull out the proof thinking that it's not possible I missed this, that the printer made the mistake. But....I'm wrong. It was spelled wrong on the proof too and I never caught it. Super crap. So...what do I do now? Do I shell out the cash to have them re-printed?? Or just send them as is?

I'm trying to rationalize it by thinking- maybe our guests will go online for directions and who really takes the invitation as a guide for a destination wedding? I mean, most of our guests are flying in and be shuttled into town. But, then again, I'm really not sure, maybe it's worse than I think.

Help! What should I do??
