Hi ladies! I live in Forest City, NC and this will be my third wedding. My hubby-to-be is 11 years younger than me and to be honest, he isn't into the whole 'romantic wedding'. I'm looking for ideas to have a gothic/hot topic wedding. The guests are defiantly going to come casualf..preferably In band t-shirts. I thought about giving candles away as gifts with a poems attached. We've gotta a lot of stuff crossed off our list already. Any ideas are welcome!!

My fiance and I are looking for a church that no longer has regular services to get married in. We just don't want to use a church just to get married in when we are not going to use the pastor that preaches there. If anyone knows of any churches or chapels in Western North Carolina please let me know!

I can't believe I'm getting married SO SOON! How are all my other May/June brides out there? The board's been slow lately.

There's so much left to do, but thankfully, as of Tuesday I am FINALLY done with school so I can focus on wedding fun. Except I almost don't know where to start! I have to get a rehearsal dress, gifts, jewelry for my bridesmaids, my shoes, and put together favors. Guess I ought to get cracking instead of watching Weeds on Netflix :)

Which brings me to my question... what in the WORLD do I get FI for a wedding day gift?? He's actually a thoughtful gift-giver and he's already told me he got me something I'll like. Unfortunately I don't have the budget he does and I'm not feeling very creative. Any suggestions?

Finally, a quick rant, just because I need to vent to some folks who may actually understand:

I cannot BELIEVE the sheer number of people who DID NOT get a "plus guest" that think they can just saunter on in with whomever they please. You guys, I'm serious here--- with the exception of maybe 5 or 6 people, any one guest at my wedding is going to know probably, at a minimum, FIFTY other people there... my wedding is not an excuse to show off your random new boyfriend or girlfriend. Ugh. I feel like I need a bouncer.

OK, I'm done... sooooo, how are yall?

Anybody out there interested in inheriting my giant cache of bridal magazines? The Knot, Brides, Martha Stewart Weddings, Southern Weddings, Real Simple.... and more! I'll ship them to you as early as Monday if I can figure out how to do it on the cheap :)The oldest ones were purchased in July/August 2010, and the most recent ones were from this month. I'd say overall, I have probably 12-15 magazines plus a few Oriental Trading Co. wedding catalogs.

We're going to Carolina Bridal World in Smithfield tomorrow and I've already been to a David's Bridal in NY. Hi all.

I've been looking for a venue within about a half hours drive from RDU, we live in Raleigh and have a lot of guests flying in.

Our #1 requirement is that we can use in our own caterer!!

I would really like a country club setting and the closest I've found is The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club. It's west of Cary, though it's in Chapel Hill, it's a golf course/golf community.

Has anyone been to a wedding there, heard about it or seen their clubhouse?

Or if you know of another venue near by that permits outside catering let me know.

So, I have this HUGE problem. I'm one of those people who has several moms and dads, bio dad w/ stepmom, adoptive mom and dad, bio mom (passed away 18 yrs ago). The question isn't whether to include all as a pegit parent, that's a given. I love them all. My problem is this...

My adoptive mother and I have had problems for about 8 years now, I'm only 20. I call her my mom because she gave up alot for me when my bio mom, her cousin, died when I was a baby, such as going to custody battles for me and spending nearly .5 million$ in court costs and all that. And I owe her so much for saving me from the horrible foster child system and other family who would've hurt me. But when I was 12 she became an alcoholic because of her father dying of cancer and her husband cheating on her. Understandable her pain. She became very abusive, mentally and physically.

When I was 15 I decided to move to live with my bio dad and stepmom. After that it got worse with my adoptive mom. We can't even speak civilly to each other for 5 minutes. She still sees me as a little girl, and sees everyhting I do as a huge mistake, even moving away form her still causes some problems with us.

I want to invite my adoptive father and his mother, I get along great with them. But I also want to invite my adoptive moms parents and her, just as a thank you for doing so much for me. But I'm scared there's going to be alot of problems between us.

Her family is racist (my FI's stepfamily is all black), they full blown religious, and the ceremony's civil service, and I'm currently pregnant, a big no-no with her family.

What should I do? I need some serious advice here and no one really has anything that could help.

Also, inviting my adoptive father includes inviting her so saying no to her will cause some problems for him between them.

Hey NC brides...I have a vision and was wondering if you can tell me if its possible....large oceanfront house for lobster boil/clam bake wedding for about 50 - 60 guests....maybe more where the immediate family members can also stay. Does that exist down there? I just want a really casual, beachy wedding at a house that serves as a venue and accomodations. Preferbaly with additional accomoddaions/lodging close by. Oh! And what towns are more vacation-like with bars and restraunts as opposed to being primarily residential? Any and all help is awesome.

Sorry, I haven't been very active on the board at all, we've been engaged so long (18 month engagement by wedding in Oct) that we've taken things so easy.

Anyway, my dress recently came in and even with my 4.5in heels I had picked out, it's too long. It's a lace, trumpet skirt dress, with scalloped edging so I was told it would have to be taken in from the seam where it begins to flare out. My appts with Olga begin in July, anyone had her do anything similar, how much did it cost? Just trying to figure out if it's worth the 1/2-1in to take up or just get taller shoes (yikes)!

Okay ladies, I know some have posted on here before about this... but I'm seriously nuts over Etsy. I love it! Not only do I find great things on there (just bought my veil and am working with a clutch designer for BM gifts), it's giving me a lot of ideas for fun DIY projects. So, out of curiousity, have you all bought anything for your weddings from Etsy? Did you have a good experience with the process/designer? Any designers you want to recommend?

My future husband and I found the perfect church for us to get married in (Chapel of Rest in Lenoir, NC) however, it is too small to fit our guest list. Does anyone know of churches that are considered "historic" or non-modern looking churches in North Carolina? We want the church to be rustic and classic looking. Please let me know ANY suggestions.

When do you give your bridesmaids and groomsmen their presents? I was thinking at the rehearsal dinner and the weddings I've been in this has been the case. Do you give a short little speech about each one as to why they are special to you (so everyone knows why you picked them)?

Also, when do you give the bride/groom gifts too? One wedding I was in, it was at the rehearsal dinner, the other two I didn't see them exchange.

One more question. Are you suppose to give your parents gifts too as a thank you? And when do you give them those gifts?

I posted this on my month board but I know you ladies wanted to see too! And I'll be back soon to do my vendor reviews

The wedding was 4/30 and everything went SO perfectly minus my sister being pretty sick, but she was a trooper and hung tough and everything went off without a hitch!

The ceremony was beautiful, the pastor ended up reading letters that DH (so weird to write that) and I had written to each other the night before - mind you the pastor asked us to send them to him via email after the rehearsal dinner, so 3+ glasses of wine deep - but everybody said that was the most special part of the ceremony. It was a total surprise to us but it was so meaningful. We took some pictures after the ceremony and then had an absolutely amazing reception with our best friends and family. The DJ was rockin', the drinks were flowing, and I actually got to eat my food AND the cake! We left around 11pm and I was told that a keg made it back to the hotel where guests did keg-stands in the lobby and the party continued well past 3am.

As you may know, my honeymoon was a surprise and it remained so until we went to the gate! We went to Jamaica (Sandals Whitehouse) and it was absolutely amazing. DH did such a great job planning it all without my help, and I was just so thrilled to be able to have ONE thing that wasn't my responsibility. We had a wonderful time and I'm already bugging him about when we can go back :)

Coordinating Dreams

Hi ladies, has anyone worked with Faye of Coordinating Dreams? I decided to hire a day-of coordinator and so far her deal is the best so I'm meeting with her tomorrow. She had some good reviews online and only one negative that I could find so I'm feeling ok about it, but thought I'd ask. Her email communication is a little touch and go, but as long as she can put my day together, that won't matter.

One other question...I asked her what I should bring with me tomorrow and she only mentioned my vendor contracts. I expetcted her to tell me to bring any visual items I already had so she could get an idea of what I was looking for, but she didn't. What did you bring to your initial consultation with a day-of-wedding coordinator?

I was so busy leading up to the wedding, TK sort of fell off! But we were married last Saturday and everything went fabulously! I am going to upload a pic for my sig that Kyle's cousin posted on FB, and of course I'll share pics once we get them back.

I am thrilled with the outcome of everything and am so happy that we are married now :) I will post vendor reviews soon, I have to keep tackling these thank you notes first! I can't wait to see all the spring bride's pictures!

okay, so I forgot to order the sparklers earlier this week for our sparkler exit. Oops. And, because they are flammable, they cannot ship overnight. Sparklers are specifically permitted by NC law, but I haven't been able to locate any local vendors--all that's popped up so far in my searching is Fort Mill and Myrtle Beach, in addition to the online folks.

Everyone else is online and I couldn't find any SC retailers that shipped, since I figured they could ground ship overnight. Also checked out craigslist, since I'd seen them for sale there previously--and foolishly didn't purchase them then!

Any suggestions? I'd still love to do this exit since it photographs so beautifully. Thanks much. Barbara (back to the dreaded seating chart!!!)

Like all of you have said I loved her. She is great. I unfortunately didn't take any pictures yesterday but go back saturday for next fitting and then pick it up the following saturday. I recommend her to anyone that needs alterations, she is so smart when it comes to alterations.

By the way if you haven't booked with her yet and your wedding is this year DO IT NOW, she showed me her calendar yesterday and its already pretty much booked up through october and she already has 9 brides for next year!!!

I'm hispanic and most of my guest will be hispanic but i will also be having friends and family who are Americans.
