I feel so lucky to have such great friends and family. My aunts and my sister threw me a big brunch bridal shower on Saturday. It was a lot of fun and good to see so many friends/ family.

Then later Saturday my best friends threw me a bachelorette party. I knew they were doing a party for me that night but they kept all the details a surprise. They literally kidnapped me from my mom's house in Greensboro Saturday afternoon (complete with a blind fold, and an ipod so I couldn't hear). They drove me somewhere, led me inside, and when they took the blind fold off I was in a suite that they had decorated at the O'Henry Hotel. We went to get manicures/ pedicures, played games in the room, had Mexican food brought in, and then went out in downtown Greensboro. My weekend was finished off with a nice southern breakfast at the O'Henry with my best friends (well and a not so fun sleepy and hungover drive back to Durham).

Things are really heating up with the planning process. This week I have an entire list of stuff to accomplish!

we got music selections narrowed down.
I made my bridal apt.
I should be picking up my BM dresses (they BETTER be in this week or I'm going to be very upset-miscommunication with shipping date with store)

I got my first RSVP back in the mail today. FI sent the invites out on Thursday and I'm delighted I got my first one back today. Now its time to stalk the mailman, lol!!! This RSVP was really funny because it reads:

meaning their newborn baby I just fell out laughing when I read this--this was a groomsman that filled the card out and he is a jokester like that!!!

My next-door neighbor (we live in a duplex house) told me today he is planning on putting his RSVP in the mail (we self addressed and stamped them already) with a sticky note that tells the mailman its the mail box right besides his. That might be interesting!!

Mini-moon

Okay girls, so FI and I are trying to figure out a mini-moon trip (I am in school so I wont be able to take a honeymoon until I am on break, and of course, until we can afford it, haha) SO does anyone have any cute romantic ideas of places to go for a mini-moon within driving distance of Wilmington? I thought about hot springs, NC, Charleston, SC, and Arlington, VA but could still use some inspiration or thoughts on the places above. I want something definitely romantic but still have fun adventurous things to do while we are there. (That was the draw of Arlington because Busch Gardens is right around the corner, we love roller coasters) If you've got any ideas let me know! :)

Tragic story! I heard about it today when I got to work this morning! This is very sad news and I can't imagine what the family is going though. Also, I couldn't imagine what the bride-to-be has to be going though. We put so much effort into a wedding then to (rightfully so) cancel it the few hour(s) before must have been the 2nd hardest thing she did that day.

The Highway Patrol confirms that the driver in a wreck that killed a six year old girl on her way to a wedding will face charges. Troopers say Mupin Cummings of Pinetops will face the charge of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle for the death of Ava Kendall. The six year old was on her way to be a flower girl in a wedding Saturday when the accident happened on Highway 43 outside of Greenville. Trooper David Swanson said Cummings' Jeep Cherokee crossed the center line and collided with a Honda Accord. Swanson says a witness traveling behind Cummings says it appeared the woman dropped something and tried to retrieve it when she swerved in on-coming traffic. The woman is still hospitalized and has not yet been served with those charges. Two bridesmaids in the car were also injured and hospitalized. 22-year-old Michele Garland 13-year-old Lindsey Whitehurst are from Greenville, as was Ava. Bride-to-be Rachel Jones cancelled the wedding following the fatal wreck.
Previous story: Family members tell WITN a flower girl was killed and two bridesmaids injured in a crash on their way to a wedding Saturday. According to Trooper Swanson the accident happened around 4:50 p.m. on Highway 43 between Greenville and Falkland, just north of Rock Springs. He says a Jeep Cherokee was heading North on Highway 43 when the vehicle crossed the center line and hit a Honda Accord going south. Inside the Honda were 22-year-old Michele Garland, 13-year-old Lindsey Whitehurst, and 6-year-old Ava Kendall. They are all from Greenville. Family members tell WITN all three were on their way to a wedding when the crash occurred. Bride-to-be Rachel Jones says Kendall was the flower girl, and the other two women bridesmaids. Trooper Swanson says Kendall was killed in the crash. Whitehurst and Garland were seriously injured and taken to Pitt County Memorial hospital where they were listed in fair condition as of Sunday morning. The driver of the Jeep, 39-year-old Mupin Wu Cummings of Pinetops, was also injured and taken to the hospital. According to troopers a witness says Cummings was looking down at the time of the crash. Swanson says he is still investigating the accident and charges are pending. The wedding was canceled because of the tragedy. Bride-to-be Rachel Jones told WITN, "It was the worst moment of my entire life." She said Kendall was the daughter of a family friend and that "anywhere we went people would stop to talk to her because she was explosive with personality and she was beautiful." Kendall's father also spoke to WITN. He said, "Every time I turn around the house I see her. I see pictures. I see her artwork. I see her clothes and she is with me."

This might sound unrealistic, but I rate all of my vendors 10 out of 10. My wedding was less than a month ago and I am still in awe at how perfectly everything came together. I credit my vendors for making the experience so positive. Here are my reviews. Let me know if you have any questions!

Ceremony/Reception Venue: The Carolina Inn (Chapel Hill) www.carolinainn.com/: The Carolina Inn is known for being a popular wedding spot, well now I know why. First, the hotel and grounds are gorgeous. You will have no trouble getting beautiful photos and video here. Second, the staff and event planners are wonderful to work with. Every single detail was taken care of and I didn’t have to worry about a thing. I planned my wedding by myself, but felt like I had the benefit of having a wedding planner when working with Devon at the Inn. I enjoyed every experience, from the menu tasting, January wedding show, and details meeting, to the entire wedding weekend. My ceremony was held in the Bryan Courtyard and it was a romantic, intimate setting. The reception was in the Old Well Room, which is a gorgeous, elegant room. You will get a lot of value at the Inn, but it can be pricey during peak season and Saturdays. By having my wedding on a Sunday, I found the price very reasonable and I can’t compliment the Inn enough on its customer service, attention to detail, beautiful accommodations and delicious food. I felt like a celebrity. Take a look at my video and you’ll see how fabulous it was!

Photography: www.andunlimited.com/ Meredith Perdue, & Unlimited (NC and Maine): Meredith Perdue with & Unlimited is based in Maine, but she is from NC and returns frequently for work and to visit family. I was lucky enough to book her for my wedding in March. She was in NC for other jobs so we could easily schedule an engagement session (www.andunlimited.com/paige-nick/) and bridal portraits. Her work is very impressive and she has already been featured on wedding planning blogs and magazines. I wanted a mix of traditional and creative (non-traditional) photos and she captured it all. I have all the family formals to make my grandparents happy and I have some really fun, unique and creative photos from the engagement/bridal sessions and awesome photos from the day of the wedding (www.andunlimited.com/carolina-inn-wedding/). She captured special moments while I was getting ready with the girls and excellent shots of the ceremony and reception. I’m not a big DIY’er, but I created a few things and Meredith did a beautiful job of highlighting these details and making them look amazing.

Boudoir Photography: Story Photographers (Raleigh): I wanted to work with a local photographer who specializes in boudoir and Ashley Stephenson with Story Photographers came highly recommended. My sister and I scheduled a session together and this helped take off the pressure. Ashley made me feel very comfortable and I was thrilled with the result. If you’re thinking about taking the leap to do a boudoir session, go for it! It was an awesome experience.

Cinematography: www.inkspotcrow.com/" InkSpot Crow Films (Durham): My review of Philip and MacKenzie with InkSpot Crow is going to be glowing, but really nothing I say can do it justice. Just watch the video (www.inkspotcrow.com/2011/04/02/nick-paige-wedding-highlights/) -- it’s less than 4 minutes long) – it says it all. When I first started wedding planning, a wedding video was not in the budget. I thought it was something we could do without. I am so glad we decided to have the video. It is a little bit of a splurge, but if there is any way to work it into your budget, I recommend it. Wedding videography isn’t what it used to be. They captured the best moments of the night and I am so proud of my video. I have a mini-movie of the wedding day and it is absolutely my favorite thing from the wedding. They produced a 4-minute highlights video that I can share on Facebook and email around. We get 3 copies of a longer video (20 mins.) on DVD. You get so much value for the money. I highly recommend!

Florist: www.freshaffairs.com/" Fresh Affairs (Raleigh): Lyn and Linda with Fresh Affairs were wonderful. I mentioned before that I didn’t have a wedding planner, but Lyn played that role during our meetings. He gave me great advice about styling and wedding colors and creative ideas for my ceremony and reception. He is very knowledgeable about local venues and other vendors, which made him even more helpful. When the wedding day came, I was so excited to see my flowers. I wanted simple, classic flowers and Lyn made them beautifully, while adding a creative touch that took them beyond what I could have ever imagined. He created a romantic setting for the ceremony by hanging flowers and a memorial candle from the tree in the courtyard, and stunning centerpieces for the reception with multiple levels of flowers and candle light. Lyn absolutely went above and beyond for my wedding and I would recommend him again and again.

DJ: Randy Bennett with www.bunndjcompany.com/">Joe Bunn DJ Company (Raleigh): Randy was great to work with, he did an excellent job running the reception and keeping everyone dancing. He took care of all my requests and didn’t miss a thing. He also provided music for the ceremony, which was simple and beautiful. The online song selection process was easy. Randy called me a few days before the wedding to run through the schedule of events and confirmed my wedding party’s names for introductions. I appreciated this attention to detail. He accommodated us when we extended the reception an extra hour to midnight. Randy was awesome!

Cake: www.swankcakedesign.com/" Swank Cake Designs (Raleigh): Another great vendor experience. The tasting was fun and Wayne made a sketch of my cake during our meeting. Their cake is delicious and they delivered a stunning, elegant cake. Take a look at the pictures. Words don’t do it justice. I opted for a simple design, but these guys are the best in the business if you want something unique and artistic.

Minister and Ceremony Coordinator: www.trianglecustomweddings.com/" Triangle Custom Weddings, Ed and Becky Sansbury (Raleigh): I met Ed and Becky at a wedding show and instantly felt a connection. They came to our house and chatted for two hours to get to know my fiancé and me. Ed was our minister and Becky acted as the day-of ceremony coordinator (The Carolina Inn requires this if you have the ceremony there). I was so glad to have both of them there. Ed worked with us to create a special, customized ceremony and vows; Becky ran the rehearsal and kept things running smoothly during the final hours before the ceremony, which helped me stay calm and focused.

Dress/Alterations: www.bridalgallerymacgregor.com/" Bridal Gallery (Cary): I had a good experience at Bridal Gallery. I read a lot of nasty reviews about the owner and her shop, but brides need to know going in that this isn’t a high-end bridal boutique so you won’t get top service like you would find at Victorian Rose or Alexia’s. If you want champagne and a fancy fitting room (and there’s nothing wrong with that), then you should go to one of the high-end boutiques. I didn’t want to spend more than $1,000 on my dress in order to stay within my budget and I got a beautiful dress and the service was fine at Bridal Gallery. I also had my alterations done there and they were perfect, she also included one pressing and as many fittings as I needed. If you go in with the right expectations, you can have a positive experience and get great value here.

Paper: MagnetStreet and Vistaprint: This is an area where I wanted to save some money. Our guest list was 80 people. I was very happy with MagnetStreet, I ordered small magnet save the dates (w/ envelopes) for $95. Invitations, place cards, reply cards, envelopes and thank you cards from Vistaprint cost less than $160. I upgraded to the higher quality paper and no one knew I paid so little for my invitations.

DIY: Menus for each table and ceremony program, place card board: I designed my menus and ceremony program in Word and had them printed at Kinko’s. Very affordable and a nice touch. I found a place card board template on the Michael’s website and made it using foam core board and multiple colors of ribbon. The place cards slipped onto the pieces of ribbon and guests picked them up at the front of the room. I saved a lot of money by not having individual place card holders.

Can't Decide!

I've never been an indecisive person but wedding planning has turned me into one.

FI and I are trying to pick a venue for our Oct 2012 wedding. The dates are already filling up fast so we need to decide. The two were trying to pick between: Darshana Hall Plantation and Grassy Creek Vineyard. We love both for different reasons.

Darshana Hall has a lot of elegance and "wow" factor being the the main house was built in 1818. It would be a very "southern" experience for all of our guests who will be traveling from the NY/NJ area. And the price is right and it includes a wedding planner, something I hadn't planned into my budget but would defintely give me peace of mind the day of and someome to coordinate all of our vendors. Cons the plantation is gorgeous but the area its in isn't, and while the reception is hidden by the house the main road is right on the other side. Also this is more of a up and coming venue so maybe all the kinks aren't worked out yet.

Grassy Creek Vineyards is more rustic with a cabin complex out in their vineyards. The thing we love here is that we'd rent the cabin complex for a full two nights and our parents and bridal party could stay at the complex with us. It would also give us the ability to have the rehearsal dinner there for just the cost of food and a brunch for our guests sunday morning. We could really turn this site into a "wedding weekend." Cons, I'd be playing point guard more, no wedding coordinator so it would be on FI and I to coordinate all the vendors, also unlike the one above we'd also need to coordinate rentals of tables/chairs/linens etc. It also is a more natural feel then elegant feel.

Hello everyone!! So my FI and I got engaged about a month ago in Las Vegas. Currently we are living in Central PA, but we will be relocating to the Raleigh area in June (we are building a house, and it won't be done til then).

We are getting married in Pittsburgh (where I am from), but I am so excited to call Raleigh home.

Any tips for getting to know other young couples in the area? We have only visited once (to buy our house), so we are TOTAL newbies. FI has a job, but I am still searching.

How to keep the party going LKN style

I posted about this a couple months ago, but I still need advice.

Our wedding is a short 6mos away! We are getting married in Cornelius at Jetton Park and have it until 9pm. We didn't know what to do afterwards and since most (if not all) of our guests are going to be from OOT (we are from Ohio) I wanted to show everyone a good time. We had initally planned to have transportation take everyone to and from our hotel from Uptown to the lake and back again, but the cost to do so is a liiiiitle steep to say the least. If we were to stay up in the Lake area, I need suggestions on:

1. Nice hotels in the Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville area.
2. Entertaining places to go after the reception in the same areas. . . where are places you all like to hang out at? We live in Davidson, but have only been to the Rudder and places in Birkdale.

Thoughts? Recommendations? Or should we just stick to the initial plan, bite the bullet and go back Uptown? (I hate the fact of paying to park/cover charges, etc for our guests who have already spent the money to travel down to NC!)

For those of you already married or who have ordered your cake, did you get enough slices for everyone or did you do a percentage, say 70%?

Hand-canceling invites?????

Hi guys,

I was hoping to put my invites in the mail by the end of the week, but when I went to go buy stamps for the RSVP envelopes, the post office dude said I had to pay EIGHTY ONE freaking cents for postage!!! Obviously I freaked out and left.

The full story is that my invite designer said I'd have to get probably the 64 cent stamps because of a design element I used making it over 1 oz. (OK, fine) and then ask for the invitations to be hand-canceled OR find a post office that would let me stand there and cancel them myself.

Has anyone gotten their invites hand-canceled in the Raleigh area recently?? If so, what post office??

I feel like it should be illegal for them to charge 20 cents extra when I can't even be certain they won't go through the machines anyway-- not to mention, over on the Invitations board, it seems like plenty of folks get their invites hand-canceled for no charge. If the USPS is a government entity, why aren't all locations doing the same things?

Any help would be appreciated. I'd be willing to drive a ways if you know of any good POs.

So, I met with a friend of mine today who is a profession fundraiser, i.e., has lots of experience with triangle area post offices. She recommends the New Bern post office downtown in Raleigh. Says they have a wonderful postmaster and great customer service. Not too keen on Crabtree, notwithstanding my experience, and recommends staying away from Cameron Village.

I am not sure who's this picture is... but I absolutely love the tree stump that is used as part of the centerpiece. Does anyone have suggestions on how or where to get these? I called a lumber yard, but they said to call the saw mill. I called the saw mill but they wanted to charge way too much for each one. Thoughts,??

I can't believe it's here! CRAZINESS!!! Is it weird though that I don't really feel nervous? I am definitely feeling crazy excited, and it doesn't help that my kids in my class ask me every 10 minutes if I'm nervous, or freaking out! It just reminds me that its this weekend, and I'm trying to keep my mind off of it and focused on work so I don't stress myself out over small details that I can't control anyways! (ie...weather. We looked at forecast this weekend and it said 60 percent showers...not cool for outdoor wedding. But that has since changed to 84 degrees and 10 percent chance of rain!)

I'm in need of some outdoor artificial flowers.

Everything Michael's carries is for indoor use, and fade really quickly outside or fall apart in the wind.

Have y'all found ourdoor-silks for sale anywhere in the Triad or Triangle areas?
