I am going to be getting engaged soon (I already picked out the ring), and will start my planning soon! I had a question, what comes first....the date or the venue? I have a general idea of when I want to get married, but I also know which venue I want too! So what happens if I go to the venue and they are booked on that date? Should I change the date? Or are you supposed to have already picked a date to tell friends and family before you start talking to venues?

FI just found out his father was diagnosed with colon cancer and it's of the genetic variety :(

Doctors think they caught it early enough for it to be taken care of but what a shock. I wish FI and I weren't on opposite sides of the world right now so I could comfort him in person rather than through Skype :(

My fiance and I are looking for an inexpensive wedding venue for a small wedding (approx. 50 people). We would like it to be all inclusive with catering and other services available, but do not want to spend a lot of money. Would like it to be somewhere you can have the ceremony and the reception at the same place. Anyone have any ideas? Please give a price range if you know one.

Can anyone recommend a great place to get my dress steamed? I'm traveling with my dress and might need to get it steamed once we're there, but I'm really paranoid about taking it to some random place and it getting ruined or something.

I could also really use a recommendation for a great place to get a mani/pedi! Please let me know if I'd need to make an appt. or could walk in, if you know.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated! Thanks!
As for location...
I'm going to be a 10 minute drive west of RDU for a few days and then a 10 minute drive east of RDU after that. Basically anywhere within a 20-25 minute radius of RDU would be fine for me to drive to.

I'm finally back at work today after our wonderful honeymoon. We had a wonderful time in Paris and it's not so fun having to come back to the real world, lol!

I had a pretty good night. My dog had me cracking up last night... Charlotte is a huge baby when it comes to thunderstorms. After the first big rumble she bolted up stairs with her tail between her legs. After a few minutes I went looking for her. Yall, she had gotten into the washroom and was balled up in one of our empty laundry basket looking like someone put the fear of god in her!! Poor thing, I couldn't help but laugh!

oh and Beka... we rented Mario Galaxy to see if we like it before we spend the money to buy it. I AM HOOKED!! love it. We are going to go buy it this week-end!

need help with nuts

hehe, now get your mind out of the gutter!!

ok, the board is slow today, so I figured I would just throw this out there and see if i can get some advise. While looking at various "candy buffet" I got to thinking, FI and I are not big sweet eaters... so why bother with candy?

so instead I want to have a "we're nuts for each other" buffet. Same concept, but just different kinds of nuts instead of candy. Some sweet, some salty, some both

A few that I thought of so far:
- candid pecan
- smoked almonds
- chocolate covered peanuts

but now I'm stuck... any other nut ideas. What else would be good? Anybody got a suggestion on where I can start to find bulk nuts at an affordable cost? Heck, is this even a good idea?

Is anyone going to need some cello bags for wedding favors??

I brainstormed with some of my super crafty lady friends about how to package my tulip bulbs for the wedding favors. We came up with a cello bag with some brown rafia ribbon nest for the bulbs and it all tied with a cute tag. Well, cello bags are cheap. I really can't complain about the price. It looks like I can get 1,000 ( 3 x 5 ) for around $25. Only problem, I don't need that many bags. I only need around 150-200.

Anyone else need some cello bags?

My name is April, I actually live in the DC area! Well long story short my wedding is 10/23/10 and I still haven't found THE dress, so I'm kinda starting to freak out a little!! I'm going to be visitng family in Wilson, NC in a few weeks so I was also going to plan a trip to bridal mart. Has anyone brought their gown from there? Is it similar to DB? So I have no internet at the beach house we are staying at so my friend and I had to grab our lap tops and head over the Krispy Kreme to get online.

I never found a dress for the pictures BUT I found an outfit in my closet that I think worked! Here is one of the best photos from that shoot!

The beach is fab! I am having so much fun...this is our last night in town so we are headed back to drink daqs and walk on the beach and shoot fireworks!!

My great uncle passed away yesterday. I guess I should stop being so selfish about the whole situation because he is so much better off now, but I can't help but to be sad. He wasn't sick, so it was somewhat of a shock to everyone....even though he was 94. But he was fortunate enough to just fall asleep and never wake up, rather than lay around and suffer, so I am thankful for that. I feel so bad for one of his sons who checked in on him three times a day (before work, on his lunch break, and when he got off work)---he is such a great guy for doing all that he did. He is having a rough time with it, and I know he is going to have such a hard time filling that void. So, please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers.

I am getting married in a church; however, I hate the idea of having all of these stick poses just inside a church. I wanted to have pictures taken outside at a different location. Is this crazy? Do you do this before the wedding or after? I just know it kind of breaks the rules about the groom seeing the bride before the wedding. Does anyone else have a situation like this?

We had originally decided to have our wedding in a garden; however, with monetary and weather issues arising. We are thinking of trying to switch our ceremony site to a church because it would cut way down on site charges, plus having to have a backup plan in case of rain if we did an outside ceremony.

Problem: I have not been living in NC for very long, and my parents are not avid church goers. Since going away to college, I have not been an active member in any church here in NC. My Fiance's family goes on very rare occasions.

If we aren't members or avid goers of chuch how do we go about getting married in a church? (When we have attended church, it is been Baptist)

Tips for a wedding in/near Beaufort, NC

Hi,

I grew up in NC, but now live in Colorado with my fiance. We want to get married in the Beaufort area and are seeking a wedding site on the water and a reception site (not in a hotel) in the Beaufort area in order to allow our guests to walk and enjoy the town. We'd love any tips on having a wedding in that area!

We are also open to suggestions to other coastal NC suggestions and appreciate the input!
