Today was just one of those days.

First of all, my star technician that typically works 12 hours on Mondays had pink eye and had to leave early. My pharmacy, which typically does 400-500 prescriptions on a Monday, was left with 3 technicians all day. So awful.

Then I get yelled at, in the drive thru, by a patient that was convinced we had given her the wrong medication. I tried to tell her the bottle she said we gave her was from last month and there was no way we had given it to her, but she was too busy screaming at me at the top of her lungs to hear me. To top that off, she starts going through her purse and I SEE THE BOTTLE E HAD FILLED THIS MORNING. She thought she was going to pull one over on me and get extra of her controlled medication. She barely even apologized when I told her that the bottle in her purse was indeed the one we had filled today. Ugh.

On top of it all: my grandma's in the hospital again. Last month she had fallen while trying to get up from going to the bathroom and laid on the floor for 16 hours before someone found her. Now she's in the hospital with congestive heart failure and aspiration pneumonia. My mom's not sure if she'll make it because she seems confused all the time and according to my mom, "is acting like a child would in this situation." Looks like I'm headed to Lancaster next Monday since this is my long week at work and I picked up a shift on my off day. Here's hoping that she makes it until then. :/

Ladies, I have been doing reasearch and it really seems like the food can easily be the biggest expense in all this planning! I have not yet chosen a venue (leaning towards North Bank Park) but I know it will most likely be somewhere I can bring my own caterer. We have about 175 people (still trying to cut this down!!) and originally I wanted to do fun unique food stations, modern food (think different types of sliders, sushi, mediterran food etc) . I want people to be up and mingling instead of sitting around at tables, so I do not want a sit down dinner. Buffet is possible I guess.

Anyone have any caterer recommendations based on what I'm looking for? Or any great tips for cutting costs??? Thanks!

My fiance requested and paid for my engagement ring with a white gold band. He won't tell me how much he spent on it, but I know it wasn't anything outrageous. Last weekend, we went to a few different jewelry stores to find a wedding band that would fit my emerald diamond. One lady kept telling my fiance that the ring was platinum, so we would need a platinum band. He kept telling her over and over (and getting angry) that it was 14K white gold, he knew because he paid for it and wouldn't have been able to afford a platinum ring, and I never would have dreamed of asking him for that price.

Well today he called me and told me that the band was actually platinum...He looked more closely at the paperwork and his receipt...the actual order for the band is platinum, but the jeweler only charged him for 14K price. And I looked at the inside of the band and the engraving is for a platinum band.

Talk about a pricey mistake!!! Had to tell people who would probably react the same way I did...pleasantly surprised! Now I'm slightly concerned I'm going to have to buy a platinum band to go with it

I decided I am going for a bit but not getting a gift since we can't afford it. Then H and I are going to get tires on my car and walk around the mall and dream a bit.

The weather is supossed to be really nice Saturday, but then Sunday it is going to turn rainy again. So I am hoping to get everything done Saturday (and I have quite a few other things on my to do list) and then go to church and relax on Sunday.

Hey ladies, many of you are probably already aware but if you weren't there are some great bridal shows coming up.

1. Columbus Bride: The Show
Jan 8-9 10 am to 5 pm BOTH days (before it was always noon-5pm on Sunday, but they've extended it this year). Vets Memorial Auditorium. I do believe you can request discount coupons from ColumbusBride.com

2. Columbus Bride & Groom Show
End of Feb and the Westin and the Statehouse. I do believe they're setting up two mock receptions, with free transportation between venues. I'm told it will be a more intimate setting where you can experience the venues and speak more closely with vendors. Not sure of cost, but I know there's a ColumbusBrideandGroom facebook page as well as a website.

Tips for bridal shows:
- print out address labels with your name, telephone #, email address, and mailing address. By the end of the show your hand will cramp after filling out a million info sheets
- VERY IMPORTANT - create an email address JUST for wedding planning. That way your personal mailbox won't get spammed. This is helpful even if you don't go to bridal shows, just for wedding planning in general.
- find vendors you enjoy speaking to first, and THEN inquire about their pricing and offerings. It's invaluable to have vendors that you get along with and feel comfortable with above all else. The best vendors will be polite, helpful, and make you feel as if they WANT your business instead of that you are a burdensome bride asking a million questions.

Happy planning!

So after a few weeks of research, I decided on three, very different locations to visit. The Athenaeum, The Clock Tower, and Grand Oaks. I figured I would give everyone some feedback on my tours for brides that are still searching.

Originally I thought it would be best to go with a venue that allowed you to do whatever you wanted, bring your own alcohol, find your own caterers - yeah, I was wrong.

The Athenaeum - Before we even arrived, I wanted to pull my hair out finding parking. Ugh. Haha. After that my first thought when we walked into the lobby was that is really old looking. That didn't throw me off right away because I am going for a very soft, vintage wedding but it went down hill from there. I really wasn't a fan of my guests sharing common areas and restrooms, and the only area that could fit my guests was this huge theatre with a lot of wasted space. The coordinator said typically couples sit on the stage, in my mind it felt like the bridal party would be too far away from the rest of the guests. I still do not really understand their pricing information, you can provide your own alcohol but they still charge for bar set up, which was like $7 per person. That was a red flag in my mind, my fiance did the math later and it came out to be more expensive than going with a venue that would provide the alcohol, and the set up, etc. Another thing was the tastings, they do tastings once a month - so if I wanted a chicken dish, they would invite me to the tasting that they are providing chicken. I felt like my wedding day deserved more attention than that, AND you don't get to pick your side dishes! All of that money, and you can't even tell them that your entire family hates green beans! Haha. So yep, that was a no go with The Athenaeum.

Grand Oaks - This is a really cool, updated venue. I think the best thing about it was the bathrooms! Haha. Unfortunately, you can't base your reception off of the hip, leopard print bathroom couches. My main reasons for not booking here was that #1 I HATE christmas lights, unless it's christmas, and they hang them from the ceiling in the ballroom, they use a portable bar that has neon lights around it, and that they have some crazy minimums. On a Friday in July, their minimum for just the rental space and beverages is $4,000. My entire budget for the reception is $8,000, so that left very little space for food, chair covers, linens, DJ, etc. One big plus was the outdoor space, very very pretty!

The Clock Tower - Ding! Ding! We found a winner :) I was a bit skeptical on the location of The Clock Tower, but the pictures on their website swayed us to go visit - and I'm soooo happy we did. As I said early I'm going for a vintage, classic theme and this place is gorgeous. They have huge chandeleirs hanging from the ballroom ceiling, columns holding up beautiful sheer curtains, and for my fiance - the bar was perfect. Everything is in one location, which is really nice, the buffet room, the dance floor, the bar, everything. And it's a private facility, so unlike The Athenaeum you don't share anything with other parties. Kristy is our coordinator and she has been so helfpul, and really honest! After I told her where we toured she brought up some really good points, like how everything we do their is private - from the meetings, to the tastings, etc. Also that they have plenty of parking, so no worries on guests being late because they can't find parking, and that we would work with her the entire time, from start to finish. My cousin was married last year and she talked about how her coordinator that she worked with wasn't even their on the day of her event, it was some new lady that really didn't know all of the details they had discussed. I knew that this would be a priority for me as I feel myself slowing become a monster. Overall, we were able to get food, alcohol, all the linens, DJ, rental fee, and pastry chef there for just about $8,000. The best part- they run monthly specials, and their November special was half off chair covers! Just this alone is basically paying for my cake. (Quick math: chair covers are typically $6, I'm paying $3, and their pastry chef starts out at $3 per serving) Go me! Haha.

Well, I hope this is helpful!!! I think that each bride has her own taste and image for her wedding, it just so happens that The Clock Tower fit mine. (and my budget). :)

I'm going over my budget tonight, and I'm looking through St. Paul's information. (In Westerville)

They want a $200 celebrant stipend, $20 for each server, a musicians stipend, and a $250 church fee...

At least $450.

Is that normal?!

I'm totally in love with this church, and don't know if my family is chipping in or not, but that seems steep. It's absolutely stunning, but I don't know about $450...

Local brides, where are you getting married?

Hi Ladies! Wedding was great, of course there were issues with some things and I hardly can recall most of the night, but it's over and done and our guests seemed to really enjoy themselves. I guess there were some issues, but during the actual wedding day, everyone just kept it to themselves and I was completely unaware of most issues. I have a few suggestions:

1 - Make sure your BMs have their bouquets with them AT ALL TIMES until the reception, of course. Some of my girls set them down somewhere and then it held up pictures when we were trying to hustle through them before guests started to arrive.

2 - Figure out exactly where everyone important (like parents, grandparents) are sitting at your rehearsal (or at least before they walk down the aisle). There was a little tiff between some family members (my uncle was recording the ceremony for us and my grandparents felt like my mother and them should be sitting where he was) as people were being seated at the start of our ceremony.

3 - I just assumed the ushers would know to pass out the programs, however, it might be wise to assign a specific person to do this job so it actually gets done.

4 - For your sweetheart table / bridal party table - instead of arrangements, we just put some gold spray painted greenery on the edges and then I just layed my bouquet on its side (my blooms were very durable so it wasn't an issue with bruising, plus by the time of the reception you've already finished most photos that need the bouquet) and that was the centerpiece. The bouquet was gorgeous and also it was low enough so that we didn't have to worry about anything being in the way for any photos (like when you put them in a vase).

5 - Your husband WILL STEP ON YOUR BUSTLE - it's inevitable. Unfortunately mine did before we even had our first dance and completely tore it apart, but I just went with the flow and it is what it is. So my train got a little dirty...my point is - walk behind him a little as much as you can until at least all of your important photo-op moments have passed.

6 - If you have a steamer, bring it with you everywhere you go leading up to the ceremony. You have some time as guests arrive before you walk down the aisle and could easily do a few touch ups if you wish during that down time. My dress was a bit wrinkled since it is polyster (wrinkles like nobody's business) for our ceremony, but I'm sure our photographer can fix that for our professional prints.

So yeah, just relax once the big day is here and really edit down projects as the week of the wedding approaches if you are behind. Be able to delegate tasks especially the day of the wedding. Revel in the moment that everyone is there to support you guys as you *officially* begin your lives together. I'll work on vendor reviews next!

Wedding slideshow from photographer if you're dying for porn - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXGnRNL33iQ

Thanks ladies!! I got some really awesome advice, support and ideas from TK and I hope it serves you just as well!
