Hi Everyone!

Quick question...do you invite everyone who should be invited to the bridal shower knowing full well they can't come? All of my fiance's friends and family are from Texas so I know none of them will be able to come to my bridal shower. It is in PA and the people who would come from TX are already paying for flights for the wedding. So, do you still invite them as a formality so no one feels left out or do you not send them invitations b/c you don't want it to look like you're just asking for a gift. Let me know what you all think!

I do not live with my parents though, so I would like the RSVP's to be sent to me (since my mom is very unorganized). Hey! Im from the DC Area boards, but FH and I are interested in honeymooning somewhere in PA! We really like the Lodge at Glendorn (http://www.glendorn.com/), but they are booked full for the week we'd want (our wedding is July 3, 2010, and we would like to honeymoon July 4-8). Do any of you know of any other similar destinations we could check out? We would prefer a lodge like this one, but a nice B&B might be alright. We want to stay away from hotels and cities. FH also really liked the options for hunting at Glendorn. Thanks!!!

My fiances family lives in Hburg and they are being soo unbelievably helpful, however, when it comes to choosing a rehearsal dinner spot, I want to be able to provide them with ideas and since I'm not from the area and my fiance hasn't lived there in years, we aren't up to date on what's around/good/well priced, etc. does anybody have any ideas for us? We don't want anything fancy, we are very casual people. Thank you!

Hi Everyone! So I have all my big stuff done which has me feeling great!! But now I am thinking about all the smaller stuff. My wedding colors are Horizon blue and Truffle brown and the wedding is in July. I know the brown for July is weird but I really liked the combination. So I am trying to figure out if I really need a "theme"? Yes, I know I should have started there. Do I really need favors at each place setting or would various bowls of favors around the venue be enough? I just hate wasting a bunch of time and money on stuff no one takes and uses. The venue has a pool table and I really like a vintage feel so I was trying to come up with something to mix the two? If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. I'm not really all that good at this girly stuff.

considering bagging it all for SMALL wedding

Now, My wedding was not large by any measure, with about 75 people on our guest list... but lately, we have been tossing around the idea of bagging it all, and cutting the list, and all the "stuff" that goes with the wedding, to about 20 people. have no dancing. no favors.. just a ceremony, dinner, dessert, and done.

Has anyone done this. considered this, attended this kind of wedding? thoughts?

Favor opinions please. Don't hold back!

We are having a difficult time deciding on our favors. Our guest count is somewhere around 60 people.We've narrowed it down to a few ideas. The first option is personal as far as our history goes and the other options are Lancaster "themed". I personally am not a fan of options 2 &3, but they are for our guests and many people do like them. What would you most like to receive as a guest?

1. CANDY APPLE. Our very first official meeting was at a carnival and our wedding is in the fall. We really like the idea of using candy apples as our favors but the drawback is that we would be making them ourselves a few days before the wedding. I'm not sure I'm up to that much work right before the big day.

2. WHOOPIE PIE. Relevant to Lancaster county. Easy to obtain. Easy presentation.

3. MINI SHOO FLY PIE. Would be the most expensive of our choices but very local and, again, relevant to Lancaster.

4. WILBUR BUDS. Another easy and local option but less exciting.

Ceremony at Formal Gardens at Masonic Village

Someone sent me a private message asking me about our ceremony, which was held in the formal gardens at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA. I seem to be unable to respond to the private message, so I'll respond here for anyone who may be interested.

The formal gardens are absolutely stunning, with varied plantings, flowers, reflecting pools and beautiful pergolas. Anyone may visit the formal gardens at any time to walk, take photos or just sit around and enjoy the view. Unfortunately, however, having a wedding ceremony there is a bit more difficult.

Here is all of the good news:

You are allowed the use of the lovely indoor Sell Chapel should there be inclement weather. In addition, before the ceremony (and, for us, after we took our pre-ceremony photos), you are permitted the use of several air conditioned rooms with private bathrooms right near Sell Chapel in order to get ready with family, bridal party, etc.

You can be of any religious denomination, but there is a requirement that you believe in G-d. You must use an ordained priest/minister/rabbi, etc. to perform your ceremony.

The cost to use the facility was only about $350 (if I recall correctly), and an additinoal $400 (again, if I recall correctly) security deposit is returned promptly afterwards, assuming that you leave things as you found them. You must also rent chairs through a preferred company recommended by Masonic Village, though we paid less than $1/chair including drop off, pick up, set up and break down. I thought that was a great deal.

You may bring flowers of your choosing and place them wherever you would like (so long as they are removed afterwards). Among other things, we used fabric, ribbons and flowers that were woven through and placed on top of the pergola under which we were married.

Here is the rub. You must either be a mason or have an immediate family member who is a mason in order to use the formal gardens for your wedding ceremony.

Wedding Dress Dilemma (long)

Hey everyone....

I have been slowly checking out wedding dresses, my wedding is 6/25/11, and every place I go, I usually like one or two. When my sister was looking for prom dresses at a local shop, a girl was trying on wedding dresses. She said she wishes she could see two dresses side by side, and I told her I'd try the other one on and stand beside her. Turns out, I LOVED the dress tha tI tried on for her. She ended up buying the sample, and the store is not ordering another one for their stock. They said I could order it in, but since I have not tried on a ton of dresses, I was hesitant to do that. Anyway, I have an appointment at a sho[ to try on dresses next Friday, and they have the exact dress I tried on before. My question is.... if I end up liking this dress, what do you think about ordering it from this website:

So, after putting our wedding off twice for various reasons, FI and I are FINALLY ready to set a date. But he just totally threw me off guard! Our original plan was to be married outdoors in the peak of fall. We both loved the idea. Then today, he brought up the idea of getting married outdoors in the dark and having the aisle and area lit by candlelight and lanterns. Obviously this would require a different time frame because I think it would be too chilly to do it in October like we'd originally planned. I'm thinking it could also be difficult to find a place that will allow open flames outside. But, I do love the idea of the romance of it (and if you knew FI, you'd be shocked by this... he is NOT romantic!).

So, which idea would you like better? Would you come to an outdoor night wedding? Do you think your families would come? We would do it as soon as it was dark (hopefully 7:30 or 8 o'clock) with the reception immediately after. FI also brought up the idea of having a brunch reception the next day, but I'm not sure what I think of this.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Country Barn Market! - a few questions for the girls who have had or are using this venue..

So, we went to the Country Barn Market today and fell in love with the place, it is so gorgeous! I am so excited at the idea of getting married there. We still need to settle on a date, but we're set on doing the ceremony and reception at this venue.

For those who have worked with Jim, a question I'm going to call and ask, but thought i'd throw it out here as well, for the bar, are we responsible for getting the insurance that's listed in his policies and if so, how much does that run? We really would like to just have wine to serve, but not keen on renting the bar and using a bartender just to serve wine.

So excited that we found the venue! Now to get everything else planned and figured out!
