We had our tasting on Sunday and decided on a dual plate of barramundi fish and spinach and asiago cheese stuffed chicken - both of which we thought were delicious. However the surgeon I work for and my dad both said something about not having a steak in the menu. At the tasting we tried the sirloin, tenderloin, and filet and we just weren't a fan. So I guess my question is - Is it bad not to have steak on the menu? Will guests be disappointed?

I've never thought about having a wedding close to a holiday before and was wondering what everyones opinion is. We were also thinking Labor Day weekend 2013... We have probably about 25% of our guest list traveling from the West Coast and thought it may be easier for them if we chose to do it over a holiday weekend. Thanks everyone!

First off sorry it has taken me so long to write this review. I wanted to make sure we had our final pictures from the photographer before I wrote it and I spent some time drooling over the pictures but am now sitting down to review everything for you.

We were married on October 8th 2011 and it was a beautiful day. It was literally 70 degrees and sunny, we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day, considering our ceremony was outside and I was a ball of nerves two weeks before the wedding because it kept raining. Outdoor weddings in Pittsburgh are always a risk! Anyways, aside from lots of family drama our wedding day turned out to be perfect and I would do it all over again! Below are my vendor reviews, enjoy!

David’s Bridal-Monroeville PA (B+)
My dress was actually the first thing I bought and I didn’t plan on getting it right away or from David’s for that matter. I went in with the expectation of trying a few different styles on so that I knew what type of dress I would want. First off, my consultant was not good at all….she kept brining me dresses way over my price range and not the styles I was looking for at all. My sisters and my mother were the ones that pulled the dress I ended up buying. It was a discontinued dress and the price was only $240. It had lace and beading all over it so it was a great deal. I had nightmares about the alterations because I had heard so many different reviews on David’s alterations. I had a modesty piece put in and they tried to convince me to have it hemmed but it really wasn’t necessary with my heels. Overall it was not as bad as I thought it would be and everything turned out great with my dress.

I also had the bridesmaids order their dresses from here. We went with one of their $99 dollar dresses and the girls were able to get shoes as well and not spend a fortune. The thing that was great about the bridesmaid dresses is that months after they were ordered my sister found out she was pregnant (with twins!). David’s let her order a new dress in a bigger size like 2 months before my wedding. She said they were extremely nice about it. All in all it wasn’t a bad experience; I just wished my consultant would have been a bit more involved in what I wanted.

Glades Pike Winery –Somerset PA-(A+)-Ceremony and reception site
My husband and I both knew we wanted the ceremony outside and the reception inside and that we wanted one location so guests weren’t driving in between the ceremony and the reception. We looked at at least 4 venues before we checked out Glades Pike Winery. I can honestly tell you the moment I stepped into their banquet hall it took my breath away and I knew instantly this was our venue. The pictures on their website do not do it justice. You truly have to go see this place in person to understand its beauty. But what really sold me on the venue was the awesome staff working there. I can’t even begin to explain how nice Liz and Monica, the coordinators at Glades Pike Winery were to my husband and I. I must have emailed Liz at least once a week for months and she never once seemed irritated or annoyed with me. I think she understood how brides can get months before their wedding and she was just very honest and helpful with me. Of course it helps that the venue is AMAZING and was well within our price range!! Another great thing about this venue is you can use any vendors you want, they don’t have a specific list of caterers or dj’s that you must use, however they will provide with a list of people they have worked with in the past. It was a good starting point for us and we were able to find vendors from that list that were within our price range. (Glades Pike does not have a fully functioning kitchen so be aware that your cater will have to make everything before hand and will only have the option to heat it up there and store it in the refrigerators there. This wasn’t a problem for us but it could be depending on your cater)

Days Inn Donegal (Donegal, PA 724-593-7536)-A+-Rehearsal Dinner, Day of Breakfast and hotel accommodations
The ladies at the Days Inn were absolutely amazing to work with. We met with them a few months before the wedding because the restaurant we originally wanted for our rehearsal dinner was booked. We knew we were blocking rooms for our guests here and the staff was super helpful with our planning! We were able to have our rehearsal outside on their beautiful patio and we picked a casual menu for the dinner. The best part was the fact that we were able to walk right up to our hotel rooms after the rehearsal dinner was completed. It was convenient and the staff was excellent! Andrea Cuda was the coordinator and I couldn’t thank her enough for making our day so memorable! The food wasn’t bad either, which is nice because sometimes you never know what you are getting with hotel food.

Duane’s Café on Grove –Catering (B+)
My husband and I were excited about being able to bring whatever cater we wanted into the reception. We did a lot of searching around and a friend actually recommended Duane’s Café on Grove because they used him for their wedding. The food was great and they were willing to give us exactly what we wanted within our price range! My husband really wanted mini pizzas for appetizers and Duane did a wonderful job with giving him exactly what he was looking for, and they were delicious. Duane and his staff were very easy to work with the only thing that upset me was the fact that a couple weeks before the wedding I had requested a vegan meal and a gluten free meal for two guests at my wedding. That day we ended up only needing the vegan meal because the other guest didn't show however, when the guests asked for their meal he said he didn’t have it. This upset me more than it did the guest, who told me they were fine and found something to eat. I had a specific conversation with him about these meals and he said they would be provided and they weren’t. Besides this issue, everything else was fantastic. The food was delicious and the service was very professional.

Beauty by Lauren-A++
Lauren has known me for years and I would have done my make myself if she couldn’t do it. I do not trust a lot of people to do my makeup. I am a very natural looking person and I wanted to look like myself that day and not someone my husband wouldn’t recognize. She was able to give me that natural look but with a touch of something different so that it looked special. Lauren uses Motives Makeup and it’s a wonderful brand. I have been using it for years now and I can honestly say I was thrilled with the way my make up turned out. Everything matched my skin perfectly and it lasted the entire night. I didn’t want to wash it off at the end of the night, it looked just the same as when she first put it on! I was more than pleased with how it turned out and she will be my go to girl if I ever need make up done again in the future! Here is her facebook page and if you are interested in her contact information message me and I can pass it along.
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.739920336902.2178001.35101953&type=3#!/pages/Beauty-By-Lauren/119214901455751
Michelle Lenhart Photography-(A+++++)
We LOVE our photographer and are sooo happy we decided to go with Michelle. I found her at a Bridal Show and I am so glad I took the time to stop at her table. She was so easy to work with, down to earth and was very reasonably priced. Photography was important to me and I knew I wanted a certain style but that it needed to be within our price range. I can’t say enough positive things about Michelle. From the moment we started working with her we knew we had a photographer for life. She is very talented and you can tell she is passionate about her work. She even went out with us a few weeks before the wedding to take a look at our venue and find a great place to take shots in between the ceremony and reception. We did an engagement session with her and had her at the wedding the entire day. She doesn’t charge for a certain amount of hours, she is pretty much there the entire time, which is really nice! I also did a trash the dress session with her. We didn’t get to crazy, just got my dress a little wet and dirty. I honestly can’t stop looking at our pictures and would highly recommend Michelle to any bride and groom! I often wonder why she isn’t mentioned on the knot because I think she is a fantastic photographer for the Pittsburgh area. I can send anyone pictures if interested!
Brannon Lyons-(A-) Ceremony Music
Brannon was great to work with. He came to us for the initial consult and he was very laid back and down to earth. He is very talented and also very professional. I honestly don’t remember the music for the ceremony at all but I think that’s because I was a big ball of emotions. Everyone else told me it was perfect. I trust everyone else and my husband is a guitar player and he seemed happy with the results. He was reasonably priced and it turned out nice!

DJ Josh-Pittsburgh East Entertainment-(A+)
Josh was very easy to work with. He met with us several times before our wedding to approve practically every single song he was going to play at our reception. He literally put together our playlist and played it for my husband before hand to make sure it was perfect! And it was. Now I left the Dj up to the husband, it was one of his only tasks to complete on his own. He did a fantastic job because Josh was flexible in meeting with us, easy to work with and was very professional at our wedding. Job well done to the husband!

As always if anyone has any questions please feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to answer them!

So basically, we are kind of deciding between the Double Tree Meadowlands in Washington and the Hilton Garden Inn in Southpointe. The Double Tree's package is more inclusive (i.e., cake is included [from a bakery I've never heard of, Krency's], floral centerpieces that I design are included, etc) but I haven't found any reviews on them really. We're (hopefully) touring the HGI this weekend and I know people who have been to weddings there and loved them. Has anyone ever heard anything about either place, good or bad? I really like that the package prices are around $75 a person (and kids meals are $20) and I have to stick close to I79 for my FI's family members from Erie (who refuse to drive into the city, sigh).

Thanks ladies! <3

I am newly engaged and trying to find a wedding venue or reception site. I would preferably like it to be between Erie PA and pittsburgh PA but a little out of this distance range would be okay. I'm looking for a unique setting, I would love an old barn rustic setting, but anything unique would work. I am a college student so on somewhat of a smaller budget. Any ideas? I also would like around 100 to 200 guests to be able to attend.

Hi all. I'm hoping for some suggestions. My future sister-in-law is officiating our wedding and I want to get her something as a token of our appreciation for officiating our wedding (and as an early bday present since her 30th bday is soon after the wedding). She's a school teacher. She and her husband spend a lot of time at Home Depot and working on their house and work really hard. She's not a big clothes person although she does seem to like jewelry and I think she would be creeped out by a spa package although I have nothing concrete to base this on. Any suggestions on a gift?

Ok, so I have had two fittings so far for my gown in Maryland. They charged me an arm and a leg for alterations, but it was a set rate. UNLESS I happen to lose or gain weight after they start the alterations process.

Here is my dilemna- I have lost over 10 lbs. And since I'm only 5'1", and tiny to begin with, it shows. I am afraid the dress will not fit when I go in for my final fitting this weekend. And I really don't want to pay them more AND have to drive to Maryland for a 4th time.

So I was curious if anyone knew of a seamstress or place in the Pittsburgh who specializes in wedding gowns and can alter it if I just need to bring it back and get it taken in more. It's awful I know, but if I am going to pay for alterations again I would rather just have them done here. Or at least I can have an idea of what someone here would charge for it and compare that to the additional cost of the shop in Maryland.

Hey there! I've been hanging around here for the last week or so, and thought I'd finally speak up and maybe get some opinions!

We're going to be a having a small ceremony/reception, either April 7th 2012 or July 21st 2012 (depends on what venue we're able to get). Our guest list is under 15 people, so when I say small..I really do mean small ;)

We've looked at a few different venues, but most are too big for our needs. Our top pick right now is Hyeholde and our 2nd is Phipps Conservatory. We'd be in the smaller room at Phipps, and although its beautiful, it's a little awkward for a wedding (in my opinion - just basically the set up is awkward). We also live in Moon Township, so Hyeholde is very close for us too.

We went there last night for dinner and very much enjoyd ourselves. With our small guest list, we'll likely reserve one of their dinning spaces and have a menu printed without prices for our guests. They're also willing to do a full menu for us, which is a plus.

Does anyone have any experience with Hyeholde in regards to weddings? We plan to do the ceremony outside on a stone patio, but we could move inside if the weather dosn't cooporate. They also have both our dates avilable. A search on here brought up the proximity to the airport, and the sounds of planes flying over...anyone have any thoughts on this? We live near the airport and rarely, if ever, hear a plane - it just depends on the wind and flight patterns, but they usually don't fly over our house.

Our next big step - photographer....the search to find a photographer that won't charge full wedding prices for us, since we don't anticipate using them for longer than two hours total.

Thanks for your help ladies!! We're totally new to Pittsburgh as well, so if you have any other venue suggestions I could have missed, I'm all ears!!

I'm also on a smaller budget so I was wondering if anyone knows if the zoo also allows wedding ceremonies. I thought it would be cost efficient and easier on everyone if we were able to have the ceremony and reception at the zoo. Does anyone have any more information about the zoo beyond what they provide on their website? Has anyone had a ceremony and/or reception at the Pittsburgh Zoo and how was your experience? Thanks
