A venue and a date

I'm so excited that we've found our venue! We're getting married at the lodge in North Park. Even his parents loved it (we thought it might be too "rustic" for their tastes).

We had been holding out on picking a date until we found a place, but they we available for 29 Dec 2012, so that's our date! Now, on to the other million decisions to make.

By the way, I cannot say enough nice things about the ladies at the North Park admin office. They have been awesome with us so far!

I'm back from my last pre-wedding trip to pittsburgh (oh boy) and we got a lot done.

First, we picked a cookie table baker - Potomac Bakery. Now we just have to order them and the takeout bags/stickers, and we're good on our wedding "favor."

Second, we met with our florist (Val Brooks) and gave her the final list of flowers and some lace to wrap my bouquet in. She knew what I wanted for the mantlepiece and pulled out a picture before I even told her! I really cant wait to see what she does with our bouquets/centerpieces.

Third, I had my hair/makeup trial. I had a snafu with my original hair person (scheduling issue) and actually set up a hair trial with Brooke Rockwell's sister, Harbor, instead. I loved it! And Clare did my makeup the same day and I loved that too. Some pics:

Can't believe that was my last trip! Hopefully I got everything done :)

I am looking for an inexpensive caterer for my outdoor wedding reception. I was wondering if anyone has used Carson's Premier Catering? I am planning for around 150-200 guests and was wondering about how much they will charge? Any insight is appreciated.

Hi girls!

I hope you all are preparing for the mini snow storm we are supposed to get in the area tonight!

So far I have so many checks off the list! We are waiting to get one more floral estimate before we make our florist decision officially. But now we are on to invitations. Where did/are you getting your invitations from? We bought our save the dates from magnetstreet.com and I have been really impressed with them for that. They even sent me some invitation samples with my save the dates. Has anyone worked with them for invitations?

Also, what is the average price for invitations? I've never ordered anything like this before so I'm sort of in the dark!

Good Evening ladies,

My fiance and I are having our wedding reception at the Lemont Restaurant on Grandview Ave, in 4 months, and my mother called me this morning, letting me know that they closed down a bridge a while ago that takes you up to Mt. Washington, and now they closed a part of Grandview Ave.

Does anyone know more about the situation? Should I worry..... :(
I currently live in Delaware so that's all i know....

This Maggie Sottero gown is BRAND NEW!!!! I purchased this Geneva dress for $1200 (not including tax) at Bridal Beginnings in Mt. Lebanon and have since found another dress for my wedding. However, they do not have a return policy whatsoever so I am stuck with it. The dress has only been tried on once and is un-altered. It is a size 6. Hi everyone! Hope you are having a good weekend! I just met with Allison McGeary for a floral appointment this morning. I really, really liked her. She didn't give me an estimate yet. She told us she would get us one in about a week. I'm super anxious to see what she comes back with, So has anyone worked with her or know about how reasonably priced she is? I met with Carrie Ann Powell a few weeks ago and liked her as well. I felt like her pricing was awesome, but I feel like Allison might have had a better grasp on what the vision is for my wedding. So I just wanted to see if anyone has dealt with one or both of these florists and how they might compare to each other. Thanks!

Online Ordainment? Or Self-Uniting License?

I've read so many articles & posts that go back and forth on whether or not someone who becomes ordained online can or cannot legally perform a wedding ceremony in Pennsylvania. Here's our deal:

We're getting married later this year and would like my fiance's brother to perform the ceremony. He became ordained online through The American Fellowship Church. He's called both Allegheny & Westmoreland county clerk's offices and has not been able to get a definite answer on whether or not he'd be legal. He asked about licensing and no one could answer his questions. I know this isn't the first time this has come up, so this is frustrating.

We're debating on whether we should just go ahead w/ the ceremony as planned and have one of our vendors, who used to be a mayor, say a few words w/ the two of us privately, and two witnesses after the ceremony to make everything legit and he'll sign the license. OR......should we just go ahead w/ a self-uniting license? I've only learned of this type of license recently. Has anyone on here in PA done one of these before who can give me some advice on it?

Do We Need Wedding Programs?

I wrote out a program and was all set to order it on etsy, but then I got to thinking - Do we really need the added expense and wasted paper of programs? My only hesitation is for older guests and to thank people for coming, but maybe we can do that one on one in person during dinner?

We're having a very short secular ceremony with one reader who has an easy passage of about 20 lines. Going all the way through the entire ceremony takes 8 minutes. We have no bridal party. Our officiant and FI will already be standing up front and I'm the only one walking down the aisle.

Nothing wedding is new for me, but yesterday I found out I'm a finalist for this fellowship I really wanted ( it's for graduating grad students who want government management jobs)! I'm so excited, and it hopefully makes it easier for me to move to DC with FI soon!

I am SO mad the Pats won. Living in Boston is nearly unbearable right now with everyone talking about the Superbowl and a Pats/Giants rematch...ugh

Other than that my weekend was very chill - it was my last one before the students return, so that was nice. I'm off to Pittsburgh on Fri for hair/makeup trials, cookie taste testing (for our cookie table) and our last vendor details meeting, which is just crazy!

Hello all! We are getting married in November, after the sunsets. I am trying to find a photographer and the one I am looking at seems to be trying to sway us from night time photos! Does anyone have any ideas as to where we could get some good night time shots (indoors or outside?)

She mentioned the "first-glance" concept to me, but I have been looking forward to walking down that aisle to my FH my whole life and can't shake it!
