Millcreek in Ligonier: Venue caterer lost their lease!!

Hey ladies, not sure if any of you have booked Millcreek Barn, like myself, but just a warning, I received a call today from the catering manager of Ligonier Tavern, which until recently was the exclusive provider for Millcreek, that they lost the lease for the barn. He said they would still honor our contract, but that the owner of the barn would only do so if we pay $1,500 as a rental fee for the space. He said they felt bad and offered to pay half ($750) of the rental fee if we were to keep the space. They never made us aware that they didn't own the barn outright as the contract is written with them being the Lessee and us the lessor. Apparently Carson's Catering is now the exclusive caterer for the space. I'm not really sure what our next move is. We don't want to pay the extra fee, but I'm honestly not sure if we'd get much out of suing for a breach of contract. Anyone else in the same boat?

Help with Engagement Photos ideas

I have seen engagement pictures done at Kennywood during the day/night and it seems to be very fun! We contacted Kennywood and said they would allow us to come in before the park opens to take the pictures, but not allowed near/on the rides. The pictures I have seen online, the couple had pictures taken in front/on the rides. Does anyone know anything about having engagement pictures done at Kennywood?

Also, what other ideas are there for engagement pictures? We don't want the same pictures as everyone with the city in the background or on the north shore. We want something that is fun and that it shows in the pictures.

Short Bridesmaids Dresses

Any recommendations for short bridesmaids dresses? I'm looking for pewter/gray. I like there to be a variety of styles for the girls to pick from. I fell in love with all of the short dresses from Alfred Sung - but I don't like the feel of the dupioni fabric and the gray that comes in the other fabric seems pretty dark. Any advice appreciated! Phipps Reception Catering

Hi all,
Has anyone had their reception at Phipps or know someone that did?
My wedding is this September 24, and I have yet to meet with their caterers to sign a contract and deposit. They make you use thier own caterers, but I can't get a hold of them for anything. The last email they sent me was a month ago, telling me they were going over their calender that morning and that I "was on their meeting list". I haven't heard back from them since. I email them questions all the time, I have so many because we haven't meet yet, and it takes weeks to get a response, if at all. Calling does no good either.
I'm really getting worried, if I ditch these caterers then I have to find a whole new venue in this short timespan. What should I do? Anyone else have a similar problem?
I appreciate your advice!!

morning everyone! Anyone do cool stuff this weekend??

It was a friend's birthday, so a few sorority sisters came into town and we went out around the city. It was pretty fun, except for trying to find a cab home in the rain Sat night.

I also completed my first DIY project - some table numbers! My lace for votives arrives today in the mail, and once I can get access to a friend's glue gun, I'm going to start those and finish my cardbox.

So this topic is what is nagging me this week and I would love help. I am trying to figure out what to have for the reception centerpieces that (a) cost-effective aka cheaper, and (b) eco-friendly/reusable (I hate to order all these flowers to only be thrown away). My wedding colors and black/white/with accents of Tiffany Blue. I am open to ANY types of ideas - different, traditional, romantic, etc.

Sunday start time

We are having a Sunday wedding and I was wondering everyone's opinion on a start time ( I saw the Friday one and saw a bunch of great responses). 95% of our guests are out of town and will be staying at the wedding site. The ceremony and reception are at the same place. Right now, we have the ceremony starting at 5pm and the reception going from 5:30 to 11pm. Should we start things sooner like 4:30 or 5pm or do you think the 5:30 to 11pm is fine? We do have some local guests so I want to be accommodating to their schedules as well. Thanks for any opinions in advance!

Hey girls!

My wedding was a couple of weeks ago and I just got my proofs back from the photographer. I LOVE my pictures! So what is the problem? I am so sad about pictures that are not there. I feel like I had so many pictures in mind that I wanted to take with certain friends or family that just didn't happen. I also wish my husband and I would have done some more poses that were more "us". Did anyone else feel this way??? How can I love the pictures that I have, but feel so sad about the ones that I don't have? Any advice/thoughts?

Party for Bridesmaid Gifts

I'm good at wedding planning, but terrible with basic parties. I'm hosting a Thirty One gifts party to help get free or cheaper extras for my bridesmaids. I'm having a destination wedding and so I'd like to get them bags/luggage in addition to a necklace or earrings. The consultant I'm working with is amazing. She is even offering me 5% of the commission from the party to use toward purchases on top of the hostess gifts. But I'm concerned. I realize she will "run" the party. But what do I need to do? I've never even been to this type of party. Should I be providing lots of food, or just appetizers and drinks? Also for the record, I"m not inviting the bridemaids to the party. I don't want them in anyway paying for their own gifts.

I'm trying to plan a surprise 30th birthday party for my husband in Pittsburgh/Cranberry area. I'm looking for some venue ideas. I'm hoping to spend between $30-$40 per person (without alcohol). We will have about 60-70 people. I'm hoping to spend about $2,500 total.

I am so excited bc I just booked Green Gears Pedicabs today!!! :) The hotel, our ceremony and reception are all in Oakland in about a two block radius so we didn't need transportation, but I really love the transpo pictures from weddings when couples are leaving the ceremony. We also will be doing a walk with the bridal party after ceremony for pictures at various places, so the pedicab will just take us around Oakland and then back to the church to meet up with everyone. I'm also saving this as a surprise for DF:) A while back he thought the idea was so cheesy but I just love it so I went ahead and just did it during my lunch break today and he will find out on the wedding day bc I know he won't think it's so cheesy once he experiences it! lol

My bridesmaid dresses are from the Limited and say they're a "mint green" but its more like a light teal

So I have a few options for the petticoat under my dress. My friends all say I should do white and white but I think that may be a bit bland for me. I was leaning toward a colored petti and shoes. Some of the ideas I had included a yellow petti and yellow shoes, a blue petti with blue shoes or a peach petti with peach shoes. I (ashamedly) still don't have my wedding colors ironed out...I was thinking light teal, dark blue, and white with a contrast color such as yellow or peach. I'm leaning toward yellow because I want the men to wear gray suits. Any opinions?

So my dress came in this week! But my fitting appointment is not until the end of the month for some reason. They informed me to bring my shoes, under garments, etc. I have NONE of that so far. I thought you just buy the undergamrents there? Where should I buy a strapless bra that'll be comfortable for the whole day? Or do I buy a bodice thing? I have NO idea. My dress is NOT strapless so I suppose I shouldnt be too concerned with pulling it up all day.

Also, where should I look for shoes? Ive looked online at zappos, endless, shoebuy, piperlime and haven't found anything. I am quite picky as I am almost the same height as FI so I am looking for a kitten heel, preferrably peep toe. But I am convinced these don't exist at the height I want (1.5 inches or less). Help please!

What flavors did you have/are you getting for your cake? And what were your favorites from other weddings you've been to, if you remember??

I have no idea what to go for with cake, and I'd love to hear what worked for everyone else. I've had tiramisu cake at a wedding before and it was really good! But I don't think our pastry chef usually does that flavor.

Hey girls!

My name is Lisa and I will be getting married to Mike on June 8, 2012. We are trying to go untraditional with a lot of things (outdoor non-religious ceremony, no veil, small reception, groom knows what the dress looks like and helped me pick it, etc) so I will be looking for fun ideas that will really help to personalize our ceremony and reception.

We have the reception venue (Mayernik Center), officiant (Rev Mark), photographer (Mike's Aunt), wedding dress and almost caterer selected, so we are well on our way to having many of the "big items" crossed off of the list. We are hoping to be able to get a lot of DIY advice and ideas also, as he will be studying a lot in the upcoming months and I am trying to find things to occupy my time.
