Unique Wedding GIft Ideas?

We're going to a wedding of a fun, young, artsy kind of couple in Austin and they are kind of non-traditional. I want to get them a fun wedding gift, not the usual serving piece from Bed Bath and Beyond kind of thing. They really embrace all that Austin has to offer and I'm trying to think of something they would really enjoy that is Austin-specific. Any ideas of a unique gift for this couple?

Bridal Show Spaming

I saw several posts about spam emails so just wanted to let you know that while I was at the weddings unveiled bridal show, I asked about the "sale" of brides names and e-mail addresses. They told me for this and every other bridal show in the area, that when you register - you are placed on a lead list. Those lead lists are given/provided to any vendor that has paid for space. So, it isn't spam - they are direct emails from the vendors at the show. So I registered and have gotten about 3 follow up emails so far. I plan to hit the Extravaganza in January and wonder how many that I will get?

I am in the great state of Texas for the holidays and was in Wal Mart, they have 4 chargers on sale half price. Ladies that is 63 cents each. Great buy and they had gold and silver. More gold than silver where I was shopping in Round Rock. For those wanting to purchase instead of renting - this is an awesome price.

My fiance and I have been engaged since February of 2008, and we are FINALLY able to plan our wedding. We live in Houston currently but are planning on getting married in Austin because I'm from there originally. I have already found you all very helpful, so thank you :o)

32 Gable boxes for sale!

Hey Ladies-
I am starting to try and get rid of some things from my wedding. The first thing to go are the extra gable boxes that we used for out of town bags.

I have 32 of them. They are kraft brown, and 9"X6"X6". They are not too large, but can still hold a lot of stuff.

10 bucks gets the whole lot!

Hey ladies, I haven't been on here much because I *HATE* the new Knot layout :( But I got almost all of my wedding planning done thank to all of your lovely recommendations so I am back... :)

I am still looking for a photographer and a DJ. Some things have happened in our lives and we are cutting back the wedding budget a bit, so I don't have a ton of money to spend on these two areas.

The photography is important to me but I held off booking someone until the finance situation was settled because I'm a big believer in the whole not going in to debt over the wedding thing, haha. I really like the style of photographers like Christina Carroll, but simply can't afford her! I am looking to stay under/around $1000 and would love 8 hours of coverage and printing rights. I don't need an engagement session or any of the bells and whistles... Any recommendations? I am fine with a newbie and have looked through many ads on Craigslist. I have contacted 3 photographers from CL but decided to seek help here before making any decisions.

As far as a DJ, we don't want to spend a whole lot either and I've heard people like Byrne Rock recommended over and over again... but I'm hoping with all the new ladies on here there might be a few new recs pop up?

The FI and I are trying to decide what we want guests to do when we leave the venue. I thought sparklers would be pretty and I always love the way the pictures look. Has anyone used sparklers instead of rice or confetti? We are trying to figure out how everyone's sparkler gets lit before we go out the door... Anyone have experience with this?!

Have talked to several photogs and have narrowed it down to Nessa K or Sherry Hammonds...any advice for either one?

Nessa is definitely more artistic and I LOVE that...but she's newer to the business.

Sherry has the experience that Nessa doesn't, but her style is a little different.

The pricing isn't enough to sway me one way or the other...would love some help deciding!! Thanks ladies!!

I finally went through everything I have for my wedding and sorted out what I need and what I don't - I ended up having some cylinder vases of various sizes, a few blub vases, some hurricane vases, and a bunch of tealight and votive holders that I'm not going to need.

I'm feeling brave and have found a photographer to shoot some boudior pictures for me to give to my sweetie as a Valentine's Day gift. I've found an amazing hotel in Austin and would love to book it for the shoot, but it's pricey! I was wondering if anyone here was interested in doing boudoir photos and might want to split the room cost with me? please email me for more details. I'm looking to do this sometime around Jan 22nd, 23rd, 24th. Also, my guy is working out of town on a contract and so I wouldn't be able to use the fancy suite that night. I would only need the room for the shoot (3 - 4 hours tops) and you could have it the rest of the time.

The big day is officially one week away and as I won't be online very much in these last few days I just wanted to thank all of you now for your help this year. I mean that very sincerely, I got half my vendors from recommendations on this board and they are all fantastic. You girls are amazing!

Our wedding isn't until May 29, but the past week I've been going through all the stuff we ordered and trying to figure out what to do with it after the wedding. I see lots of new faces around here so hopefully some of you may want these for a post-May wedding. (As in, they won't be available until May 30.)

Silver chargers for sale.

We were married on August 22 2009 and we never listed these silver chargers. We have approximately 130. I will have to recount them as I forgot. We are asking $1.50 a plate. They normally rent for $3.00 or so. We can ship at your expense, however they are heavy all together. We will be in the San Antonio area the next four or five weekends and we can deliver them anyone of those times either in SA or meeting half way in the San Marcos area. We should also be in the Austin area on Jan 8^th 2010, time to be determine. We will also be traveling from Abilene TX down 84 to 283 to 87 to I-10 so if you are along that rout we could meet up somewhere.

Three Points Ranch?

Has anyone been to a wedding there? We are looking into weddings basically everywhere (we live in Los Angeles but will probably relocate to Austin). I saw pictures and read a review from projectwedding, but don't know much about it. We like it because it has the look we like, allows any outside vendor, and is $1,100 for a Mon-Thurs wedding (what we are probably going to do).

Hey ladies!
I'm having my bridal portraits taken in Austin because that's where I found our photographer. The problem is that I'm not from there, so I have no idea where to take my portraits. I'm wanting them to be pretty traditional...some in a beautiful church and then of course some fun ones too. I need advice on pretty churches in the area and maybe some golf courses that would be open to letting us shoot there. Any ideas would help. My portraits are on the 29th of December so the sooner the better. Thanks!!

First, I wanted to say thank you to all of you for the great feedback and advice over the past few months. You have been incredibly helpful, informative and supportive. All much appreciated.

I got married on 12/12 and have posted my vendor reviews on my website -- www dot suziandrobert dot com. Sometimes you have to refresh the page. At this point, I feel like you have to refresh everything on theknot, though.

One other thing, I will be renting a few items to other brides: 9 18-inch tall glass vases (slightly more cone than cylinder shape), 2 10'X4' cylinder vases, 10 4' cylinder vases, 5 candy jars and many many votives. That way, you rent them and then give them back without having to sell them yourself. Great rates. I can provide photos of all the pieces.
