help finding a venue on a budget

We are not planning on getting married until Aug. 2012. We have set a very tight budget of $5000.00. Do you think this is do able in Wa.?

We have a lot of DIY Ideas to help save, but are struggling to find a venue.

We want an outdoor ceremony with the option of there being an indoors for reception.

We are trying to do a back yard BBQ for the reception so we need a place that will allow us to do that.

We would do a park but I do not want guests having to use a bathroom that smells like pee. Which is the main reason for the indoor.

We looked at Thornewood Castle in Lakewood it's a beautiful place but a little further then we think we want our guests to have to travel.

We are going to view Lake Wilderness Lodge (Maple Valley) and Druid's Glen (Kent)

Do any of you have any suggestions for venues?

I am at the point where I feel like giving up because our budget is too small.

Changing your name (as requested by sharingourlove)

So this is what I've done/will do to officially change my last name:

Step 1:
Update your FB account, it's not official until it's FB official

Step 2:
Pick up notarized copies of your marriage licence (usually available around one week after your officiant mails the completed licence after the ceremony). Here is the website that has the offices/procedures for each county in WA: http://access.wa.gov/living/resources/marriage.aspx
3-5 copies seems to be the norm, some institutions require a copy and others only require a scanned copy.

Step 3 & 4:
You can go to either the Social Security office or the DOL, it doesn't matter what order. I went to SS first, then the DOL. Just be sure to bring photo ID and a copy of your marriage license!

To find your local SS office, enter your zip code on this site: https://secure.ssa.gov/apps6z/FOLO/fo001.jsp

Here is a site with changing your last name at the DOL: http://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/change.html#namechange ***note the $10 fee, and if your license is about to expire you might as well pay the $20 fee to renew your license. And when you change your name at the DOL, it should automatically change your name for your voters ballot.

Step 5:
Change your name at work, I had to email our Corporate HR department a copy of our marriage license.

Step 6:
Change insurance (if applicable), my work required it be done within 30 days of the event (the wedding) and DH's required 60. So check to see how long you have, to make sure you don't put it off too long. DH's insurance was cheaper/better for our lifestyles, so we switched me over to his.

Step 7:
Update your W-4 form at work! Being married can save you a few bucks on your pay check (or it did with mine at least), and with your federal taxes.

Step 8:
Change your name at your banks/checking/saving accounts and Credit Cards. They might require a physical copy of your marriage license, BECU did for us.

Step 9:
Change your name with any utilities bills, and any accounts/subscriptions you receive mail from.

Steps 10+:
The minor details: personal email, changing your email for all the things you login for: FB, GroupOn, LivingSocial, etc. You could get away with not updating a lot of these, it's up to you. I created a whole other email account with Gmail, just so it would have my current name, not my maiden name, in the address itself. But a lot of the mailing lists I have are still connected to my old email, I might switch some over.

If you have a passport, you'll want to change your name on that (I don't have one, so I didn't include this step earlier).

And make sure you DON'T change your name if you currently have any flights or major travel plans booked under your maiden name, since I'm pretty sure that your license needs to match the name the ticket/reservations were booked under.

Hi,

Do you know anyone or company that can help for wedding food set up?
We are planning to have chinese wedding food (It's hard to find good chinese food catering :S)
So, we plan to order from our favorite restaurant.
However, the problem will be, we need someone to pick it up and put it in chafing dishes and decorate it nicely for the wedding.
Do you know anyone or any company that'll be able to do that?

PSA: Shellac Nail Tippr Deal

Hi all - there was a thread a few days ago asking about Nail services and the general consensus seemed to be for the Shellac kind of manicure.

I noticed today that Tippr is offering $15 for Shellac manicure (normally $30) and you can buy up to 10 plus 10 more as gifts. It looks like the salon is in West Seattle, but if you're buying for a bunch of bm's it might be worth it! Then go play on the beach at Alki or something :)

p.s. apparently this is good for 4 more days!

My fiance and I are going to look at venues soon - we are both taking our parents also. I would love to hear about all of your experiences touring wedding venues - how it went, what to do, what not to do, what to ask, how much time it takes, etc. We have two very full days planned and I am wondering if its too much all at once - how many do you think we could see in a day? I'm planning 5-8 each day... Crazy I know but when else will we have a chance to all get together? :P

Hi all,

My fh didn't even want a DJ-he just wanted to hook up our iPod. Well we went to a wedding with a great DJ so I think that finally convinced him that it was worth it :)

However, we're having a small budget wedding, so for 4 or 5 hours (ceremony and reception in the same space) we really only have/want to spend $500 MAX.

Anybody we can check out in our price range? It seems like $100 an hour should be pretty normal, but I've been quoted $1600 for 4 hours!!!

Hey All!!! I am looking for a DJ in the Renton/South Sound area. Unfortunately we are on a tight budget, so someone fairly inexpensive would be great! I don't know how much a DJ usually charges or if it is a by the hour kinda thing! Can anyone shine a little light on this subject for me? Maybe if I can find someone that isn't going to charge an arm and a leg, I can convince the FI that we need a DJ.

Marriage License question

I want to change the spelling of my first name, do any of you know if I can do this on my Marriage License when it asks what your name will be after marriage?

FYI my first name is Andrea- my mom spelt it like that on my Birth certificate but for as long as I can remember I've spelt it Andria- it gets confusing for some but I am so use to spelling it that way that all our wedding stuff has it spelt that way. I would love to make it official.

Bachelorette Party Ideas

So my girls just started asking me about what I would like to do for the bachelorette party and I don't really know. I am not really interested in getting smashed or going clubbing or anything like that....and no stripppers.....

I am not really sure what else to do? My girls are also all pretty low on cash these days so it needs to be something fairly affordable. Do you guys have any fun/creative ideas for things to do that we be fun but kinda mellow,etc?

Bridal Shower Location Suggestions

I live down in Oregon and my best friend is getting married up in Seattle this summer. I am her matron of honor :)

She will be having a lot of out of town guests, so we have decided to have the bridal shower the weekend before her wedding so they can attend also (she is getting married on a Monday).

Since so many of them will be staying in Seattle and won't have cars, I need to find a place to have her bridal shower that is in Seattle.

I don't really know that much about Seattle, so I am looking for potential places to hold it and would love any suggestions you might have!

I am looking for places that:
Are in Downtown, Captial Hill or the U-District
Have spaces we can rent out, or can accomodate 20-25 people

She doesn't seem to want to do traditional bridal showery stuff, so cool restaurants, or bars could work. Or if you know of any artsy craftsy places, wine places, coffee houses, etc.

So everytime I think we have decided on a venue for the cermony and reception something comes up eg
1. Woodland Park Zoo- 2000 for reception and ceremony its ok until I have $600 added in for chair fees and 200 for tables and nickle and dime me to death.
2. Point Defiance Zoon- 1300 no extra: my dad said he'd be pissed if I got married at the zoo. So that takes care of 1 &2.
3. Destination wedding Hawaii- Elder family cannot come
So right now we are looking for something a little different not religious and outdoors
any ideas?
One place we are considering is Leavenworth which is beautiful any ideas there?
We are both half asian and love asian food any ideas for Tacoma or Eastside?
